The aim of this paper is development of resistivity seismic dilatometer (RSDMT) system. The resistivity module for obtaining apparent resistivity depth plot and seismic module for obtaining shear wave velocity (Vs) depth plot are attached to the conventional flat dilatometer testing equipment. From shear wave velocity profile, the stiffness at low strains of a site can be evaluated in undisturbed condition. And the resistivity value contains some information about water content and mineral characteristics of clayey soil. Specially manufactured resistivity and seismic modules were connected between commercialized DMT blade and drilling rod. To enhance reliability and repeatability of RSDMT test, automatic testing system including notebook based data acquisition system and automatic surface source system were developed. RSDMT system can be performed rapidly and can obtaine more reliable data at the same point compared with the separated testing system. The verification studies for the developed RSDMT system are going to be performed. From these studies, the effectiveness of integrated hybrid testing system will be checked in light of proper evaluation of geotechnical design parameters of clayey soils.
We have conducted VI CCD photometry of the open cluster NGC 6819 in order to understand the effects of dynamical evolution in old open clusters. Our photometry covers 18' $\times$ 18' on the sky, centered on the cluster, which seems to cover the whole cluster field. Our photometry reaches down to V $\approx$ 20.5, which allows us to analyze the luminosity function and spatial distribution of stars brighter than Mv $\approx$ 8.5. There is a clear evidence for mass segregation in NGC 6819, i.e., the giants and upper main-sequence stars are concentrated in the inner regions, whereas the lower main-sequence stars distribute almost uniformly throughout the cluster. The luminosity function of the main-sequence stars of NGC 6819 is almost flat. The flat luminosity function indicates that a large number of low mass stars has escaped from the cluster unless its initial mass function is much different from the Salpeter type (${\phi}(m){\propto} m^{-(1+x)},x = 1.35$).
High rock-fill embankment is relatively flexible, which makes crest of embankment subject to excessive amplification in displacement due to earthquake loading. To overcome problems related with site response in high embankment, it is essential to evaluate shear-wave velocity profile of the embankment with improved accuracy and reliability. In this aspect, an experimental research was performed to answer how to perform surface-wave tests and to analyze measurements at an embankment site with a sloping ground surface. Unlike flat ground surface, sloping ground may hamper and slow down propagation of surface waves due to multiple reflections and refractions in embankment. To figure out this reasoning for the effect of multiple reflections and refractions due to sloping surface, surface wave tests were performed at a reservoir embankment of Chung-Song in North KyeongSang Province. Parameters involved in surface wave tests at non-flat surface, including source directionality, geometry-related constraint and frequency components in source function, were investigated using field measurements.

This paper adopts the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) open-source code SPHinXsys to study the solitary wave interaction with coastal structures. The convergence properties of the model in terms of particle size and smoothing length are tested based on the example of solitary wave propagation in a flat-bottom wave flume. After that, the solitary wave interactions with a suspended submerged flat plate and deck with girders are studied. The wave profile and velocity field near the surface of the structures, as well as the wave forces exerted onto the structures are analyzed.

Ichnology is the study of traces made by various organisms, which includes classification and description of traces, and interpretation of sedimentary process, behavior of organism and depositional environment based on traces and organism behavior. Ichnofacies, which is defined as the association of several traces related together with substrate characteristics and sedimentary processes, is closely related to depositional environment. Ichnology has been applied to sedimentology (to understand physical characteristics of depositional environment, sedimentation pattern and event bed), sequence stratigraphy (to recognize sequence boundaries and biostratigraphic discontinuities such as MFS, TSE and RSE), oil exploration (providing of many information without big cost) and palaeocology. Preliminary ichnological study on the Ganghwa intertidal flat shows that dominant ichofacies are changing with season and location, suggesting that their seasonal variation would be a good indicator to understand the seasonal change of sedimentary processes, the small- scale change of sedimentary environment and the preservation potential of such units. Ichnology on intertidal flat in western coast of Korea has a great potential to apply its results to petroleum geology as well as sedimentology.

In this study, we investigated the spatial distribution of macrozoobenthos in the estuarine sandy flat, the Bongam tidal flat located in Masan Bay during March, 2004. A total 13 species were identified at 12 stations within the tidal flat. The mean density was $20,267\;ind./m^2$, and mean biomass was $228.1g/m^2$. Dominant species in the Bongam tidal flat were all polychaetes: Prionospio japonicus ($11,716\;ind./m^2$, 57.8%) and Polydora ligni ($3,929\;ind./m^2$, 19.4%) of spionoid polychaete, and Neanthes succinea ($3,425\;ind./m^2$, 16.9%) of nereid polychaete. The most dominant species, P. japonicus distributed evenly all stations in the tidal flat. But N. succinea showed high density at the upper area of the tidal flat. Species diversity index (H') was in the range of 0.6 to 1.2 which is relatively low due to the prominent of P. japonicus and few species richness at each station. The study area was divided into two station groups (group A and B) based on the cluster analysis and MDS ordination, and the spatial distribution of macrozoobenthos on the Bongam tidal flat seemed to be in the influence of exposure duration from tidal levels and specific geological topography.

High resolution intertidal DEM is a basic material for science research like sedimentation/erosion by ocean current, and is invaluable in a monitoring of environmental changes and practical management of coastal wetland. Since the intertidal zone changes rapidly by the inflow of fluvial debris and tide condition, remote sensing is an effective tool for observing large areas in short time. Although radar interferometry is one of the well-known techniques for generating high resolution DEM, conventional repeat-pass interferometry has difficulty on acquiring enough coherence over tidal flat due to the limited exposure time and the rapid changes in surface condition. In order to overcome these constraints, we tested the feasibility of radar interferometry using Cosmo-SkyMed tandem-like one-day data and ERS-ENVISAT cross tandem data with very short revisit period compared to the conventional repeat pass data. Small temporal baseline combined with long perpendicular baseline allowed high coherence over most of the exposed tidal flat surface in both observations. However the interferometric phases acquired from Cosmo-SkyMed data suffer from atmospheric delay and changes in soil moisture contents. The ERS-ENVISAT pair, on the other hand, provides nice phase which agree well with the real topography, because the atmospheric effect in 30-minute gap is almost same to both images so that they are cancelled out in the interferometric process. Thus, the cross interferometry with very small temporal baseline and large perpendicular baseline is one of the most reliable solutions for the intertidal DEM construction which requires very accurate mapping of the elevation.

While conventional interferometric SAR (InSAR) technique is an excellent tool for displacement observation, it is only sensitive to one-dimensional deformation along the satellite's line-of-sight (LOS). Recently, a multiple aperture interferogram (MAI) technique has been developed to overcome this drawback. This method successfully extracted along-track displacements from InSAR data, based on split-beam InSAR processing, to create forward- and backward- looking interferograms, and was superior to along-track displacements derived by pixel-offset algorithm. This method is useful to measure along-track displacements. However, it does not only decrease the coherence of MAI because three co-registration and resampling procedures are required for producing MAI, but also is confined to a suitable interferometric pair of SAR images having zero Doppler centroid. In this paper, we propose an efficient and robust method to generate MAI from interferometric pair having non-zero Doppler centroid. The proposed method efficiently improves the coherence of MAI, because the co-registration of forward- and backward- single look complex (SLC) images is carried out by time shift property of Fourier transform without resampling procedure. It also successfully removes azimuth flat earth and topographic phases caused by the effect of non-zero Doppler centroid. We tested the proposed method using ERS images of the Mw 7.1 1999 California, Hector Mine Earthquake. The result shows that the proposed method improved the coherence of MAI and generalized MAI processing algorithm.
Earth's bow shock is a transition layer across which properties of plasmas change irreversibly. Although some features of the bow shock are well described by continuities of fluxes of various macroscopic quantities, particle dynamics across the transition layer is very complicated. Observed phase space distributions show multiple ion beams and partially thermalized ions around the transition layer. In some cases, both hot magnetosheath ions and cold solar wind ions simultaneously exist in the magnetosheath. Electrons around the transition layer usually have flat-top distributions with temperature anisotropy. From the observed properties of the phase space distributions we will discuss thermalization processes that occur across the shock transition.

An Estimation of VHF datalink range for EW(Electronic Warfare) equipment in the sea environment was studied to predict the datalink range between transmitting and receiving station. We consider refraction and reflection in addition to the basic radar equation. The reflection especially includes propagation factor in case of spherical earth as well as flat earth. The estimation result can predict the real datalink range within 5% error.
