In this study, plasma flat fluorescent lamps (FFLs) having two electrode type structures of surface discharge was fabricated by screen printing and were characterized using spectra-radiometer and square pulse power supply. Two types of FFLs (cross-type and line-type electrode structure) were compared with variation of discharge shape and electrode distance.
In the present study, a numerical analysis of transient mixer flow is performed considering free surface formation. The flow patterns and free surface shape in a mixers formed by flat paddle and pitched paddle impellers are predicted. In a flat paddle mixer, two flow circulation regions are formed due to strong radial flow, whereas one large circulation is formed in a pitched paddle mixer due to axial downward flow. These differences affect the free surface evolution and shape. It is seen from the results that a flat paddle mixer gives deeper free surface at center region than a pitched paddle mixer. The free surface of 8-blades-flat-paddle mixer is also simulated to compare with the available experimental and simulation results. The present computational results agree reasonably well with the experimental data.
Ride comfort is one of the major factors in evaluating the performance of the vehicle. Tire is closely related to the ride comfort of the vehicle as the only parts in contact with the road surface directly. Vertical stiffness which is one of the parameters to evaluate the tire performance is great influence on the ride comfort. In general, the lower the vertical stiffness, the ride comfort is improved. Research for improving the ride comfort has been mainly carried out by optimizing the shape of the pneumatic tire. However, demand for safety of the vehicle has been increased recently such as a run-flat tire which is effective in safety improvement. But a run-flat tire have trouble in practical use because of poor ride comfort than general tire. Therefore, In this paper, the research was carried out for improving the ride comfort through the optimization of the SIR shape inside a run-flat tire. Meta-model was generated by using the design of experiment and it was able to reduce the time for the finite element analysis of optimization. In addition, Shape optimization for improving the ride comfort was performed by using the genetic algorithm which is one of the global optimization techniques.
The purpose of this research is to define body shapes of Plus-sized women at ages between 21 and 69 whose satisfied the Plus-sized judgment criteria took part in this study. This research also classifies different body types, and provides basic data for designing prototypes according to each body type. Based on factor analysis of the measured data, nine key factors are grouped. And four different body types are classified based on the cluster analysis using factor marks. Type 1 refers to those who are tall and characterized by 'Y' body shape when looked from the front. Looking from the side, this type is comparatively balanced obese type which has flat breast and abdomen, and which has a jutting back and buttocks. Type 2 refers to those who are the shortest of all the obese with 'X' front. This type is Sway-back shape which has jutting back and abdomen but flat buttocks when looked from the side. Type 3 is characterized by 'H' body shape when looked from the front. This type is Pway-back shape which has flat back, abdomen and buttocks when looked from the side. The prominent breast part of this type is the most outstanding figure. Type 4 is characterized by 'X' when looked from the front. This type has a jutting waist and prominent buttocks when looked from the side.
The purpose of this study is to provide a basic data of clothing development that can improve the satisfaction of the body shape by examining the subjective evaluation and characteristics of each type. The types of body shape of middle-aged women were analyzed as four types: elasticity loss ladder type, flat rectangular type, thin reverse ladder type, and upper body obesity inverted triangle type. The elasticity loss ladder type was developed with the lower body, and it was analyzed that the legs size such as the thighs and claves were large, the abdomen was protruded, and especially the underbelly appeared. The flat rectangular type was the largest of the four types, and was the skinny type. The width was larger than the thickness of the body, and the difference between the hip circumference and the waist circumference was small, and it was classified into a flat rectangular shape. The thin reverse ladder type was the smallest of the four types, the upper body was developed, the back had weight, and the body was leaning forward. And the lower body and leg were poor and the abdomen was protruding. Finally, the upper body obesity inverted triangular was the highest type of BMI index among 4 types. All of subjects belong to the mild and middle obesity, and the second was the smallest but the most weighted type among 4 types. They had the fat body and big bust, the upper body was developed, and the lower body and legs were analyzed to be poor body shape. Based on the body shape of middle-aged women, it is necessary to develop designs and patterns that can cover the shortcomings of body shape.
The turbulence stimulation effect of studs for boundary layer over a flat plate was investigated through the flow measurement in KRISO cavitation tunnel. For the test, Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) and three flat plate models were used: (1) flat plate without studs; (2) flat plate with one stud row; (3) flat plate with two stud rows. The dimension and location of stud rows and the inflow speed were selected considering test conditions for standard-sized model ships in KRISO towing tank. The boundary layer characteristics of test models were analyzed and compared in terms of mean velocity profiles, turbulence intensity profiles, boundary layer thickness, and shape factor. In the case of the flat plate without studs, transition from laminar to turbulent flow occurred around Rex=3.83 ~ 5.19 × 105. In the case of flat plates with stud rows, the flow rapidly changed into turbulent flow right after passing the first stud row. In the state where turbulence was already developed, the second stud row slightly increased the turbulence intensity near the top of the stud, but did not significantly affect the boundary layer characteristics such as mean velocity distribution, boundary layer thickness, and shape factor.
The paper describes a theoretical study on the flexural vibration of an elastic rectangular plate with periodically nonuniform material properties. The approximate solution of the natural frequency and mode shape has been obtained using the perturbation technique for sinusoidal modulation of the flexural rigidity and mass density. It has been shown that distributed modes exist in the plate which Is a two-dimensional model of the flat panel speaker.
Using the extensive datasets, I analyze the effect of tick size changes on the intraday patterns of spread and depth. I show that intraday variations in spread (depth) are greater (smaller) with smaller tick size during the early hour of trading and become smaller (larger) during the last hour of trading. And the standardized spreads (depths) are quoted at the lower (higher) levels as the tick size becomes smaller. I also find that U-shaped intraday spread pattern changes to the reverse flat S-shape while inverted U-shaped depth pattern does to the flat S-shape.

Flat slab systems are vastly used in multi-story buildings because of their savings in story height and construction time, as well as for their flexibility in architectural remodeling. However, they frequently suffer brittle punching-shear failure around columns, especially when subjected to lateral loads. Therefore, seismic codes labeled flat slabs as non-ductile systems. This research goal is investigating some construction alternatives to enhance flat slab ductility and deformability. The alternatives are: adding different types of punching-shear reinforcement, using discreet fibers in concrete mixes, and increasing thickness of slab around columns. The experimental study included preparation and testing of seven half-scale interior slab-column connections up to failure. The first specimen is considered a reference, the second two specimens made of concrete mixes with different volumetric ratios of polymer fibers. Another three specimens reinforced with different types of punching-shear reinforcement, and the last specimen constructed with drop panel of inverted pyramidal shape. It is found that using the inverted pyramid-shape drop panel of specimen, increases the punching-shear capacity, and the initial and the post-cracking stiffnesses. The initial elastic stiffnesses are different for all specimens especially for the slab with closed stirrups where it is experienced the highest initial stiffness compared to the reference slab.
