  • The steam generator of nuclear power plant is composed with the bundles of long tubes. It is exposed fluid flow and weak in the vibration. The tubes are supported by anti-vibration bars. Due to vibration the wear damage is called as the fretting wear. It should be minimized for the safety of the plants. The hard coatings are very effective to reduce the amount of wear. The coatings of TiN and CrN are introduced in this study to protect the fretting surfaces. The tube-on-flat type tester was used for fretting wear tests. The results show that the wear amounts of the coated tubes were decreased depending on coating thickness. CrN was very effective to reduce the wear. In case of TiN the wear amounts were dependent on the coating thickness. Thick coating of TiN was very effective for wear resistance.

  • KIER has been developing the anode-supported flat tubular solid oxide fuel cell unit bundle for the intermediate temperature($700{\sim}800^{\circ}C$) operation. Anode-supported flat tubular cells have Ni/YSZ cermet anode support, 8 moi.% $Y_2O_3$ stabilized $ZrO_2(YSZ)$ thin electrolyte, and cathode multi-layer composed of Sr-doped $LaSrMnO_3(LSM)$, LSM-YSZ composite, and $LaSrCoFeO_3(LSCF)$. The prepared anode-supported flat tubular cell was joined with ferritic stainless steel cap by induction brazing process. Current collection for the cathode was achieved by winding Ag wire and $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}CoO_3(LSCo)$ paste, while current collection for the anode was achieved by using Ni wire and felt. For making stack, the prepared anode-supported flat tubular cells with effective electrode area of $90\;cm^2$ connected in series with 12 unit bundles, in which unit bundle consists of two cells connected in parallel. The performance of unit bundle in 3% humidified $H_2$ and air at $800^{\circ}C$ shows maximum power density of $0.39\;W/cm^2$ (@ 0.7V). Through these experiments, we obtained basic technology of the anode-supported flat tubular cell and established the proprietary concept of the anode-supported flat tubular cell unit bundle.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the enhancement of heat transfer without additional external power in the case of rectangular impingement air jet vertically on the flat heating surface. The technique used in the present study was placement of square rod bundles as a turbulence promoter in front of the heat transfer surface. The results obtained through this study were summerized as follws. High heat transfer enhancement was achieved by inserting rods in front of the heating flat plate. According to visulaization, it was examined because of flow acceleration and separation and disturbance of boundary layer. The smaller clerance between rod and heating plate was, the larger heat transfer effect became at each H/B. Arverage Nusselt number reached maximum at H/B=10 and the local augmentation rate of heat transfer became maximum at H/B=2. The maximum average heat transfer enhancement rate increase about 43% for the case of X/B=2 and C=1mm, compared to a flat plate without rods. The correlating equation of average Nusselt number and Reynolds number was obatined. As follws : ${\overline{Nu}}_0=1.249Re^{0.465}(C/A)^{-0.033}(H/B)^{0.013}$.

  • This experiment was carried out to obtain some information about the growth habit and morphological and anatomical characteristics of fasciated soybean, var. Buchai-kong. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Main stern of fasciated soybean, var. Buchai-kong was gradually broadened and became flat, on which leaves emerged irregularly compared with normal soybean, var. Danyeop-kong. The number of leaves on main stern was more in Buchai-kong, but the total number of leaves per plant was not considerably different each other. 2. The degree of fasciation (max./min. in diameter at the broadened part) in main stern of Buchai-kong was about 3.1, and was related to the amount of growth of main stern and branches of Danyeop-kong. Stern fasciation types found in Buchai-kong were linear (the most common) and bifurcated with regard to branching of main stern tip. 3. The number of branches per plant was much less in Buchai-kong than in Danyeop-kong. There were fas-ciated branches and fasciated petiole in Buchai-kong. 4. About 75 percent of pods of Buchai-kong were concentrated on the top of stern, which showed strong pod clustering. 5. Seed yield per plant of Buchai-kong was about 60 percent of that of Danyeop-kong, and the decrease in seed yield was mostly affected by the decrease in seed weight and seeds per pod. 6. The number of vascular bundles of transection of mature stern was more in Buchai-kong, but Danyeop-kong developed the better vascular bundle.

  • In this study, the effects of growth temperature on structural and optical properties of hydrothermally grown ZnO nanorod arrays have been investigated. Zinc nitrate ($Zn(NO_3)_2$) and hexamethylenetetramine were used as precursors. The ZnO buffered Si(100) with a thickness of 40 nm was used as the substrates. The ZnO nanorods were grown on these substrates with the temperature ranging from 55 to $115^{\circ}C$. The results were characterized by scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction and room temperature photoluminescence measurements. Well-aligned ZnO nanorods arrays were obtained from all samples. The tips of nanorods were flat when the temperature was less than $95^{\circ}C$, and the sharp-tip nanoneedle-like morphologies were obtained with the temperature of $115^{\circ}C$. In addition, some bundles were on the nanorods arrays with $115^{\circ}C$ due to the non-equilibrium growth. The growth temperature could affect the crystal and optical properties of ZnO. For the effects on crystal properties, the intensity of (002) peak was increased as the temperature was increased to $75^{\circ}C$, then decreased as the temperature was further increased to $115^{\circ}C$. As for the effects on optical properties, the intensity ratio of UV peak to visible peak is increased with the temperature increasing and the strongest UV peak intensity was obtained with the growth temperature of $95^{\circ}C$.
