Three-dimensional evolution of a solar magnetic field that emerges, organizes and produces a flare and flare-associated eruptions of a flux rope and plasmoid

  • Solar flare is one of the energetic phenomena observed on the Sun, and it is often accompanied with eruptions such as global-scale eruption of a flux rope (filament/prominence eruption) and small-scale eruption of a plasmoid. A flare itself is a dissipative phenomenon where accumulated electric current representing free magnetic energy is dissipated quickly at a special location called a current sheet formed in a generally highly conductive solar corona. Previous studies have demonstrated how a solar magnetic field placed on the Sun forms a current sheet when magnetic shear is added to the field. Our study is focused on a self-consistent process of how a subsurface magnetic field emerges into the solar atmosphere and forms a current sheet in the corona. This study also gives light to a relation among a flare and two types of flare-associated eruptions; flux-rope eruption and plasmoid eruption.

Moreton Wave and EUV Wave Associated with the 2010 February 7 and 2010 August 18 Flares

  • Solar flares are very spectacular, and are associated with various phenomena. Coronal shocks or disturbances are one of such flare-related phenomena. Although Moreton waves and X-ray waves are well explained with MHD first mode shocks propagating in the corona, there still remains a big problem on the nature of the waves, since they are very rare phenomena. On the other hand, EIT waves (or EUV waves) have been paid attention to as another phenomenon of coronal disturbances. However, the physical features (velocity, opening angle, and so on) are much different from those for Moreton waves and X-ray waves. We report detailed features of the coronal disturbances associated with the 2010 February 7 and the 2010 August 18 flares. For the former flare we analyzed the H-alpha images obtained by SMART at Hida Observatory, Kyoto University, Japan and by a flare telescope at National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, the X-rays images taken by Hinode/XRT, and the EUV images obtained by the both satellites of STEREO, and found the Moreton wave, X-ray wave, and EIT wave, simultaneously. In the latter flare, on the other hand, we observed a very fast EUV wave in EUV images taken by SDO/AIA. The propagating speed is comparable to the MHD first mode wave, while there is no obvious evidence of shocks for this flare. From these results, we discuss the nature of coronal disturbances.

부갑상샘절제술 이후 뼈스캔에서 발적 현상을 나타낸 갈색종 (Brown Tumor Shown Flare Phenomenon On Bone Scan After Parathyroidectomy)

  • Brown tumor is the benign bone lesion consists of woven bone and fibrous tissue without matrix, which develop due to chronic excessive osteoclastic activity such as hyperparathyroidism. Usually they appear with normal uptake or occasionally focally increased uptake on bone scan. We present a case with brown tumor shown more increased uptake and more number of lesions on bone scan after parathyroidectomy, and lesser increased uptake on serial bone scans without any other treatment through several months. This finding is thought to be similar to 'flare phenomenon' which is occasionally seen after treatment of metastatic bone lesions of malignant cancer, and may represent curative process of brown tumor with rapid normal bone formation.

대형기 착륙과정의 지면효과에 대한 인식과 대응에 관한 연구 (A Study on Perception and Reaction of Ground Effect during Landing of Large Airplanes)

  • Ground effect includes a reduction of induced drag, increase of lift, and nose-down moment during landing. These phenomena, occurring late in the landing maneuver, are considered to be of little significance because they tend to counteract and/or compensate in this respect. Even though it is unlikely to affect any flare profile variations appreciably, some pilots have reversed perception about such phenomenon and overestimate during landing. It is becoming a negative factor and is making an adverse effect on landing maneuver. This study examines the perception of ground effect of large aircraft pilots, reviews literature regarding ground effect, and makes suggestions that pilots can correctly recognize and respond to the effect during landing flare maneuvers.

규칙파 중 갑판침입수에 미치는 선수 플레어 각도의 영향에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Effects of Bow Flare Angle about Green Water in Regular Waves)

  • It is very important to investigate and understand the motion of a FPSO on waves because green water phenomenon occurs owing to the relative motions between incident waves and a ship on them. In this research, both experimental and some numerical approaches have been performed in head sea conditions with regular waves. As an object model of this research, a FPSO model is set free to heave and pitch during the experiments. Also, the motions of the FPSO model which are the results of the experiments are used for the corresponding numerical computations. The purpose of this study is to clarify the effect of bow flare on green water load. In this research, it is found that the amount of green water entered from the side of bow is decreased by the increase of bow flare angle. Moreover, the relation between the green water on the bow upper deck and the impact load on the vertical wall located at turrethead is investigated. The results of this research could be used as one of the fundamental data to design bow flares. Also, an optimized bow flare angle is proposed in this study.

기저 형상에 따른 PIFS 및 열전달 비교 연구 (THE COMPARISON OF PIFS AND HEAT TRANSFER WITH BASE CONFIGURATIONS)

  • Numerical investigation was conducted to study the effects of after-body configurations and nozzle lip on the PIFS(Plume Induced Flow Separation) and eat flux to the base face. Two dimensional and axi-symmetric non-equilibrium Navier-Stoke's solver with $k-{\omega}$ SST turbulence model was used to solve the launching vehicle type configuration with propulsive jet. The experimental result of Robert J. McGhee was compared with our computational results for code validation. Three types of the after-body configurations (Straight, Boat-tail, Flare type) were simulated for this study. And the nozzle lip effect was studies using the three types of base configurations same simulation conditions. As a result of numerical investigations, higher pressure ratio condition and boat-tail after-body configuration caused severe PIFS phenomenon but the flare type after-body configuration and low pressure ratio suppressed PIFS. Flare type after-body configuration and low pressure ratio case reduced heat flux to base face. The nozzle lip dispersed the heat flux widely along the base face and the nozzle lip.

플레어 시스템의 최적 운영방안에 대한 연구 (A Study on Optimal Operation for Flare systems)

  • 대부분의 정유 및 화학 시설에는 정전 등 갑작스러운 공정 정지 등의 문제로 인한 다량의 가스를 방출해야 하는 비상상황 발생에 대비하여 공정시설의 압력 상승을 완화하기 위해 설계된 플레어 시스템을 가지고 있다. 하지만 플레어 시스템의 불꽃 상승은 가시적 공해로 인한 공장 주변 주민들의 민원을 유발하며, 회사에서는 경제적 손실이 발생하므로 이에 대한 상시 관리가 필요한 상황이다. 본 연구에서는 플레어 시스템의 최적 운영방안을 도출하기 위하여 두 가지 항목에 대해 진단 및 분석을 진행하였다. 첫째, 불꽃 높이 상승 원인을 확인하기 위해 음향누출 측정기를 이용하여 안전밸브 및 압력 조정 밸브에서의 가스 누설을 탐지하였다. 둘째, 불꽃 불안전성 원인 파악을 위해 밀봉 드럼에 대해 CFD 모사 및 모형 제작실험을 통한 맥동 현상 발생을 진단하였으며 밀봉 드럼은 정상이며, 안전밸브의 4.3% 및 압력 조정 밸브의 10%에서 누설을 확인함으로써 비정상적인 불꽃 발생의 원인을 도출하였다. 본 연구결과에서 제시되는 사항은 플레어 시스템을 보유한 모든 회사에 적용이 가능하므로 이를 통한 민원 발생 및 제품손실의 방지가 기대된다.

  • 선수 구조부의 파랑충격현상은 대단히 복잡한 현상을 나타내고 있고 정확하게 규명하기 어렵기 때문에 아직 경험적인 설계에 의존하고 있다. 파랑충격하중에 의한 선수 구조부의 손상은 주로 충격압력역적과 파랑충격하중의 면적에 의하여 크게 영향을 받는다. 본 연구에서는 두 번째 단계로서 파랑충격하중에 대한 선수 구조부 강도의 추정을 위하여 효율적인 부재치수의 결정 프로그램을 개발하고, 파랑충격하중의 면적을 추정하고자 한다. 동적 비선형 범용 프로그램 LS/DYNA3D를 이용하여 DWT 300,000급 VLCC의 선수 구조부를 이상화된 패널구조 모델의 중앙부에서의 최대 손상변형을 비교하여 추정하고자 한다. 이것은 다음 단계의 선수 구조부의 동적 구조해석의 검증에 사용될 것이다. 본 연구에서는 극치 6.5MPa, 후부높이 1.0MPa, 그리고 지속시간 5.0msec인 파랑충격압력 곡선 하에서, 강성이 작은 보강재로 보강된 경우 파랑충격하중의 면적은 $1.5s{\times}1.5s$ 보강재 간격(s), 강성이 큰 스트링거로 보강된 경우는 $2.5s{\times}2.5s$로 추정하였다.

  • 대체로 황천 운행 시 선체와 파도의 상대적인 운동에 의하여 발생하는 파랑충격하중을 고려하여 선수 구조부를 설계하고 있다. 선수 구조부의 파랑충격현상은 대단히 복잡한 현상을 나타내고 있고 정확하게 규명하기 어렵기 때문에 경험적인 설계에 의존하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 첫 단계로서 동적 비선형 범용 프로그램 LS/DYNA3D를 이용하여 선수 구조부의 손상 자료로부터 역으로 파랑충격하중을 추정하고, 파랑충격압력 곡선의 극치, 지속시간, 후부높이, 극치발생시간 등과 같은 특징에 대한 파라메트 연구를 수행하고자 한다. 본 연구를 통하여 파랑충격하중에 대한 구조물의 동적 거동은 주로 충격압력역적에 의하여 영향을 받고, 또한 구조물에 최대 변형이 발생하기 이전에 가하여진 충격압력역적이 거동에 매우 큰 영향을 미친다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

규칙파 중 갑판침입수 충격하중 감소를 위한 선수형상 설계 (Design of Bow Shape to Decrease Green Water Impact Loading in Regular Waves)

  • In this research, the relationship between the bow shape and green water phenomenon on the bow deck of an FPSO was studied using an experimental method. A 140,000 DWT FPSO was used as the objective hull form in the present research. The incident waves were regular types. The heights were 1.0 and 1.5 times the freeboard, and the length was equal in size to LBP. The wave heights and pressures on the deck were measured in experiments. Model tests were performed to determine the effects of bow flare angles, bow shapes, and a forecastle deck. The free heave and pitch conditions were applied to the models in these experiments. From the results of the model tests, an optimized bow shape was designed, which was found to decrease the green water impact loading. The results of this research could be used as fundamental data in the design of a bow shape.
