다공성 물질에 의한 열재순환 화염에 관한 실험적 연구 I

  • 본 연구에서는 4종류의 실험 모델을 채택하여 연소 반응용다공성 블럭(combu- stive reacting porous block)내의 화염대 위치와 화염의 온도 분포, 화염이 안정화 되는 범위를 고찰하여 내부 열재순환 효과를 규명하고 예열용 다공성 블럭(preheating porous block)과 복사 차폐용 다공성 블럭(radiative insulating porous block)의 효 과에 대한 연구와 초희박 혼합기나 저 발열량 연료의 연소 가능성을 제시하고 수치 계 산에 필요한 자료를 제시하는 것이다.

  • Recently, the world faces the environmental problem such as air pollution due to harmful gas discharged from car and abnormal climate due to the green-house gases increased by the discharge of $CO_2$. Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), one of alternative for this problem, is less harmful, compared to the existing fossil fuel, as gaseous fuel, and less carbon in fuel ingredients and carbon dioxide generation rate relatively favorable more than the existing fuel. However, CNG fuel has the weakness of slow flame propagation speed and difficult fast burn. On the other hand, hydrogen does not include carbon in fuel ingredients, and does not discharge harmful gas such as CO and HC. Moreover, it has strength of quick burning velocity and ignition is possible with small ignition energy source and it's has wide Lean Flammability Limit. If using this hydrogen with CNG fuel, the characteristics of output and discharge gas is improved by the mixer's burning velocity improved, and, at the same time, is possible to have stable lean combustion with the reduction of $CO_2$ expected. Therefore, this research tries to identify the characteristics of engine and emission gas when mixing CNG fuel and hydrogen in each portion and burning them in spark igniting engine, and grasp the lean combustion limit and emission gas characteristics according and use it as the basic data of hydrogen-CNG premixed engine.

정적연소기를 이용한 합성가스의 가연한계 및 연소특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on Flammability Limits and Combustion Characteristics of Synthetic Gas in a Constant Combustion Chamber)

  • Synthetic gas is defined as reformed gas from hydrocarbon-based fuel and the major chemical species of the synthetic gas are $H_2$, CO and $N_2$. Among them, hydrogen from synthetic gas is very useful species in chemical process such as combustion. It is a main reason that many studies have been performed to develop an effective reforming device. Furthermore, other technologies have been studied for synthetic gas application, such as the ESGI(Exhaust Synthetic Gas Injection) technology. ESGI injects and burns synthetic gas in the exhaust pipe so that heat from hydrogen combustion helps fast warmup of the close-coupled catalyst and reduction of harmful emissions. However, it is very hard to understand combustion characteristic of hydrogen under low oxygen environment and complicated variation in chemical species in exhaust gas. This study focuses on the characteristics of hydrogen combustion under ESGI operating conditions using a CVC(Constant Volume Chamber). Measurements of pressure variation and flame speed have been performed for various oxygen and hydrogen concentrations. Results have been analyzed to understand ignition and combustion characteristics of hydrogen under lower oxygen conditions. The CVC experiments showed that under lower oxygen concentration, amount of active chemicals in the combustion chamber was a crucial factor to influence hydrogen combustion as well as hydrogen/oxygen ratio. It is also found that increase in volume fraction of oxygen is effective for the fast and stable burning of hydrogen by virtue of increase in flame speed.

  • In this study, we analyzed the ignitibility of the wooden floorings used as the finishing materials for interior with the flammability tester and the ignition point tester. Also we analyzed the limit oxygen index(LOI) using the oxygen index tester and the flame resistance of the wooden floorings. We confirmed that all of the samples had a excellent flame resistance. The ignitibility of the floorings were ranked as the material lumber>the strengthening flooring>the veneer board(1)>the veneer board(2).

  • Lean burn combustion is an important concept for improving the fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. However, the lean burning is associated with increased cycle-to-cycle combustion variations due to the ignition instabilities and redu- ced flame propagation rates. Engine stability under lean mixture conditions could be improved by increasing flame speed through enhanced flow characteristics and by securing ignitability with improvement of ignition systems. The effects of flow motion and ignition characteristics on the combustion performances were investigated in a 4-valve SI engine. Flow motions of tumble-swirl were varied with a swirl control valve attached at the inlet ports, while ignition energy and its distribution were controlled in a high -frequency ignition system by changing spark duration and spark frequency. The improvement of lean burn performance by the optimum flow motion and ignition characteristics is discussed.

  • MRSM(modified response surface methodology)-2 model is presented for the prediction of boiling points in combustible solution of quaternary systems. This model requires only normal boiling points of pure substances and group-group parameters which are based on the group-group concepts without the use of experimental data under consideration. By means of this methodology, it is possible to predict the boiling points of the combustible mixture of quaternary systems by plotting of isothermal lines using computer graphics. The proposed methodology has been tested and compared successfully with reported boiling points in journals for the combustible solution of quaternary systems. It is hoped eventually that this methodology will permit prediction of the flash point and flammability limit for the combustible mixture of multicomponent systems.

  • Recently, fuel reforming technology for the fuel cell vehicle has been applied to internal combustion engines, with various purpose. Syngas which is reformed from fossil fuel has hydrogen as a major component. It has better effort in combustion characteristics such as wide flammability and hig speed flame propagation. In this study, syngas was added to a gasoline engine for the improvement of combustion stability and exhaust emission in idle state. Combustion stability, exhaust emissions, fuel consumption and exhaust gas temperature were measured to investigate the effects of syngas addition on idle performance. Results showed that syngas has ability to extend lean operation limit and ignition retard range. with dramatical reduction of engine out emissions.

다공질 내부의 연소현상에 대한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Combustion Phenomena in Porous Media)

  • Experiments were performed on the laminar premixed flame stabilized in a porous medium to know whether the flame downstream of the combustor exists or not. In previous theoretical studies, a stable flame has been predicted in the downstream region of the combustor, but it has never been observed in experiments. In this study, a stable downstream flame could be obtained for the lower burning velocity through circumferential heating by a blue flame positioned outside the periphery of the specially devised combustor. The existence of the stable downstream flame was confirmed by a direct photography of soot line, and temperature measurements. The effect of combustor diameter to flame stability was also considered. As the diameter of the combustor increases, the lean flammability limit was extended.

농도 불균일 LPG-공기 혼합기체의 폭발특성 (Explosion Characteristics of Nonhomogeneous LPG-Air Mixtures)

  • The explosion characteristics of nonhomogeneous LPG-Air mixtures was measured in a cylindrical vessel and a pipe. The maximum explosion pressure, the maximum rate of explosion pressure rise, and the flame propagation velocity were measured and compared with that of homogeneous explosion by changing the effective factors on the explosion of nonhomogeneous mixtures such as pressure difference, effusion time and delay time. Explosion was occured even in the lower concentration than the lean flammability limit of mixture. The maximum explosion pressure was increased with increase of LPG concentration, however, the maximum explosion pressure rise was not in the nonhomogeneous explosion. An d the flame propagation velocity was decreased with nonhomogeneity, however, the maximum explosion pressure was always above 0.7kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$.

  • Synthesis gas such as hydrogen and carbon monoxide was produced from $CH_4/oxygen$ mixture using insulated pressurized porous media combustor. Experimentally, two cylindrical SiC foams with the different pore density were piled up in a quartz tube and fully premixed mixture was supplied in the axial direction. After stabilizing fuel-rich flame at the interface of the two foams at several pressure conditions, mole fractions of synthesis gases were measured by gas chromatography. Heat recirculation through the inner foam structure could extend the flow velocity of stable region over the laminar burning velocity. As the pressure increased, the rich flammability limit, $H_2/CO$ ratio, and module M increased.
