  • In order to establish effective fishing ground environment equipment and artificial reef in coastal area, the methodology to select the most suitable area for artificial reef should be applied after analyzing the correlation between fishing ground environment and ocean environment. In this paper, thematic maps were prepared by using satellite remote sensing and GIS for the sea surface temperature, chlorophyll, transparency, the depth of sea water and the condition of submarine geologic which are considered as the most elements when selecting suitable area for artificial reef in Tong-Yong bay. Then, the most suitable area for artificial reef was selected by giving weight score depending on the suitable condition of this area and analyzing spatial data. The results showed it makes possible for this methodology, which selects the suitable area for artificial reef using satellite remote sensing and GIS, to manage the institution of artificial reef more entirely and efficiently through analyzing and visualizing.

  • It has been mown that the global warming has an effectet on marine ecosystem and marine environments. Then, fisherman's activity and fishing production were decreased by changing of marine plankton composition and increasing of harmful marine organisms such as jellyfish, starfish and green laver bloom. Harmful red tides algae bloom and the deserted sea bottom often occurred due to increasing of sea water temperature and sea level rising in Korea. In this report, the cause and mechanism of the global warming phenomenon and it's effect on marine environment and marine ecosystem were introduced, and measures against global warming were suggested

  • The low temperature, low salinity and low density sea water which was originated from the southern part of the Yellow Sea and distributed from the surface to 20 m depth was transported by the northwesterly wind during the period from the middle of March to the beginning of April, 1998 and had an influence on the northern coastal sea area of Cheju Island. Accordingly, this kind of accumulated data may supply the fundamental data for the realtime monitoring of oceanographic conditions and may improve degree of the forecasting accuracy of fishing and oceanographic conditions.

  • Yellow Sea Buoy (YSB) was moored in the center of the Yellow Sea at 35$^{\circ}$51'36"N, 124$^{\circ}$34'42"E, on 12 September 2007. YSB is a large buoy of 10 m diameter, and as such is more durable against collision by ships and less likely to be lost or removed by fishing nets compared to small ordinary buoys of 2.3 m diameter. YSB is equipped with 12 kinds of oceanic and meteorologic instruments, and transfers its realtime observation data to KORDI through ORBCOMM system every 1 hour. Data on ocean winds, air temperature, air pressure, and sea temperature appear to be accurate, while water property sensors (AAQ1183), which are sensitive to fouling, are producing errors. YSB (2007), Ieodo ocean research station (2003), and Gageocho ocean research station, which was completed in October 2009, will establish the 2 degrees interval by latitude in the Yellow Sea, and they will contribute though the 'Operational Oceanography System' as the important realtime observation network.

  • The objective of this paper is to estimate consumer's marginal willingness to pay(MWTP) for cold chain system attributes of mackerel using choice experiment questionnaires. The survey data were analyzed by conjoint analysis method with multinominal logit model. The five cold chain system attributes with $2{\sim}4$ attribute levels were considered : low temperature safekeeping of fishing boats, a kind of transport truck and packing box, using degree of low temperature facility in distribution, mackerel price per fish(1kg). At least 827 people were asked to participate in the survey. The major findings and implications of this study can be summarized as follows : The estimated multinominal logit model is statistically significant and the total consumers willingness to pay for the improved cold chain system attributes is 6,476 won (per kg). Compared with the base price(2,500 won/kg), the estimated MWTP is 2.5 times higher than the base price. Therefore, the consumer has a willingness to pay for the fresh and safe fish products, even though more money is paid. To satisfy the consumer's needs, cold chain system is necessary in point of long-term. In this reason, The government's policy support is needed for promoting cold chain system in fishery, and a master plan should be prepared.

  • In order to investigate the seasonal variation of watermass in the central coast of the southern sea of korea, oceanographic observation on the fishing grounds were carried out by the trainingship of Yosu University on May, Aug. and Nov. in 1998 and Feb. in 1999. The resultes obtained are summerized as follows : 1). The watermass in the fishing ground were divided into the coastal water(30.0~31.6$\textperthousand$ ), mixing water(31.7~33.4$\textperthousand$) and the offshore water(33.5~35.0$\textperthousand$) according to the distribution of salinity from T-S diagram plotted all salinity data observed on May, Aug. and Nov. in 1998 and Feb. in 1999. 2) The ranges of temperature and salinity were from 14.1$^{\circ}C$ to 18.8$^{\circ}C$ and from 32.2$\textperthousand$ to 34.9$\textperthousand$ in spring(May), from 14.2$^{\circ}C$ to 27.7$^{\circ}C$ and from 29.0$\textperthousand$ to 34.7$\textperthousand$ in summer(August), from 13.4$^{\circ}C$ to 21.3$^{\circ}C$ and from 31.45$\textperthousand$ to 34.5$\textperthousand$ in autumn(November) and from 8.2$^{\circ}C$ to 14.8$^{\circ}C$ and from 33.9$\textperthousand$ to 34.6$\textperthousand$ in winter(February), respectively. 3) The distribution of watermass in the fishing ground varied largely each seasons, but a general tendency on the distribution was obtained. That is, in spring and autumm the offshore water was distributed most widely and in summer the coastal and mixing water occupied the fishing ground but in winter the offshore water prevailed. 4) Variation of temperature and salinity were appeared between the surface and 30m in the coastal region and between the surface and 50m in the open ocaen region. Therefore, in the summer the thermocline and halocline were made between surface and 30m layer with vertical gradients of 10.5$^{\circ}C$/30m and 4.0$\textperthousand$/30m in the coastal region and in the open ocean region the thermocline and halocline were made between surface and 50m layer with vertical gradients of 13.$0^{\circ}C$/50m and 3.8$\textperthousand$/50m.

  • Fishes by a set net in the coastal waters off Gwideuk, Jeju Island were studied to determine species composition and catch variation, 2004. The fishing period conducted by a set net in Gwideuk fishing ground were from April to December. A total of 45,473.2 kg including 21 species was caught during the survey period. Most of them consisted of fishes of 17 species and a few were cephalopods of 4 species. Dominant species were Trachurus japonicus and Siganus fuscescens, 44.3% in the total. And sub-dominant species were Sepioteuthis lessoniana, Seriola dumerili, Seriola quinqueradiata, Loligo bleekeri, Seriola lalandi accounting for 54.4%. Although the number of species had a tendency to decreased from July to December, the catch by a set net was higher in summer and autumn than in spring. Such catch variations were closely related to recruitment of dominant species and also the seasonal variation of fishing ground temperature.

  • This study deals with bottom debris and benthos which have obtained by using a beam trawler in Chinhae bay, Korea. The temperature and salinity didn't impact on the fish species and weights in the bay. But bottom debris is dominated on the precipitation into the bay. And it also was nearly very soiled owing to geographical condition of semi-enclosed bay. Moreover, all debris was not related on the quantitative variability of benthos. On the other hand, it was revealed to be reverse-correlative with fish species and positive-correlative with fish weights.

  • It has used buoy for efficient domestic farm operations and fishermen fish. Buoy uses IoT-based communication to transmit water temperature, salinity, humidity, wind speed, etc. to fishers in real time. In this paper, we utilize LoRa, which enables communication in the marine environment, to construct a network and apply it to an actual buoy for monitoring. The implemented LoRa uses the 900MHz band to configure the network. The sensor consisted of a sensor that can monitor the atmospheric environment and a sensor that can monitor the marine environment. In addition, the information received in real time will be provided to the fishing village host. The fishermen were fully aware of this and took appropriate measures to conduct sea trials.

  • A comparison between the estimated chlorophyll a from OSMI, the SeaWiFS and the chlorophyll a measured from the research cruises of National Fisheries Research and Development Institute was made. The updated empirical algorithm for calibrating and validating of the estimated chlorophyll a in the East China Sea was formulated by relationship between the estimated chlorophyll a and the field one. The relationship between the chlorophyll a and the band ratio(nLw490/555) was still highest in the OSMI data after launching of KOMPSAT satellite. The distributions of OSMI chlorophyll a were compared with those of sea surface temperature, zooplankton biomass, and catch amounts of the Pacific mackerel in the East China Sea. In case of the relationships in specially winter seasons of 2002 and 2004, the zooplankton and the fish were totally depended on the distributions of SST than those of chlorophyll a.
