On the basis of the seven species of fish caught by fishing boats with one crewmen belonging to the Iwawada Fisheries Cooperative of Chiba Prefecture, the fishing boats were classified by species with high market values, and the results obtained were reclassified by discriminant function. As a result, the fishing boats were classified into six groups. These six groups are : G1 featuring the main catches of yellowtails ; G2 flounders ; G3 skipjack tunas, G4 squids ; G5 demersal fish, and G6 other miscellaneous species. Furthermore, principal component analysis were carried out on fish catches of the seven species in terms of the value obtained from a catch from the scores of the first, second, third and fourth principal components. The results of analysis show that fishing boats with one crewman can be broadly classified into three groups ; i.e., Groups G1/G2, Groups G3/G4/G5 and Group G6.
We consider changes in the fishing ground of the small yellow croaker Larimichthys polyactis and discuss their utility in predicting fishing conditions for this species. The fishing ground, which having been formed around Jeju Island since the 1970s, is dominated by the Yellow Sea Bottom Cold Water (YSBCW), and variation in its southward expansion from the Yellow Sea is the single most key environmental factor affecting the L. polyactis catch. When the YSBCW showed strong expansion and the fishing ground shifted to the west and southwest of Jeju Island, as occurred in the late 1980s, late 1990s, and early 2000s, the L. polyactis catch was low; conversely, when expansion was weak, as in the early 1990s and late 2000s, the L. polyactis catch was high. This relationship was statistically significant and should be useful in predicting fishing conditions for L. polyactis.

Marine spatial planning (MSP) is a crucial element for rational allocation and sustainable use of marine areas. Particularly, Fishing Activity Protected Areas constitute essential zones accounting for 45.6% designated for sustainable fishing activities. However, the current assessment of these zones does not adequately consider future demands and potential values, necessitating appropriate evaluation methods and predictive tools for long-term planning. In this study, we selected key fish species (Scomber japonicus, Trichiurus lepturus, Engraulis japonicus, and Larimichthys polyactis) within the Fishing Activity Protected Area to predict their distribution and compare it with the current designated zones for evaluating the ability of the prediction tool. Employing the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 6th Assessment Report scenarios (SSP1-2.6 and SSP5-8.5), we used species distribution models (such as MaxEnt) to assess the movement and distribution changes of these species owing to future variations. The results indicated a 30-50% increase in the distribution area of S. japonicus, T. lepturus, and L. polyactis, whereas the distribution area of E. japonicus decreased by approximately 6-11%. Based on these results, a species richness map for the four key species was created. Within the marine spatial planning boundaries, the overlap between areas rated "high" in species richness and the Fishing Activity Protected Area was approximately 15%, increasing to 21% under the RCP 2.6 scenario and 34% under the RCP 8.5 scenario. These findings can serve as scientific evidence for future evaluations of use zones or changes in reserve areas. The current and predicted distributions of species owing to climate change can address the limitations of current use zone evaluations and contribute to the development of plans for sustainable and beneficial use of marine resources.
A new species of bryozoan, Bicellariella fragilis n. sp. is reported from Jejudo Island, Korea. It was collected at Munseom I. and Supseom I. off Seogwipo city by the fishing net and SCUBA diving from 1978 to 2009. The new species has characteristics of four to five dorso-distal spines and two proximal spines, whereas ten to twelve spines of B. sinica are not separated into two groups of the distal and proximal ones. And this species shows the difference from B. levinseni in having no avicularium.

Squid is one of the important fisheries resources in Korea. Therefore, squid has been designated and managed as a target species of total allowable catch (TAC) since 2007, but the catch amount is gradually decreasing. The analysis was conducted to identify the change of relative fishing power index to develop the vessel and gear technology that may have improved the fishing efficiency of the offshore squid jigging fishery from 1960s to 2010s. Gross tonnage per fishing vessel increased with the increase in size until 1990, but then gradually decreased to 41.0 tons in 2000 and 37.1 tons in 2010. The illuminating power (energy consumption) by fishing lamps increased to 180 kW in 2005 and stabilized to 120 kW in 2015. Jigging machine started to be supplied to fishing vessels from the early 1970s, and fish finders began to be supplied in the early 1980s and gradually increased. Therefore, the relative fishing power index in the offshore squid jigging fishery increased from 1.0 in 1980 to 1.1 in 1990, to 3.5 in 2000 and to 2.5 in 2010, but the increment rate slowed down gradually. The results are expected to contribute to reasonable fisheries stock management.

To investigate the catches of jack mackerel fishery, a series of fishing experiments was conducted in the high seas of the southeastern Pacific Ocean ($30^{\circ}S-38^{\circ}S,\;82^{\circ}W-95^{\circ}W$) during the period of 9 August to 18 December, 2003 by commercial fishing vessel and research vessel. The number of 205 tows fishing was carried out in the southeastern Pacific Ocean. The total catch was 1,988 ton and CPUE was 2.4 ton/hour. CPUE showed high values in the frontal zone during the survey. Main target species caught from the experimental fishing were the jack mackerel, Trachurus murphyi (98.1%) and chub mackerel, Scomber japonicus (1.9%) as bycatch. Body length of the jack mackerel was different between female and male. The high mean catch per unit effort of jack mackerel was showed when the fishing ground of jack mackerel fishery was over the $110^{\circ}W$ in the southeastern Pacific Ocean. But the fluctuation of the catch per unit effort in the western part of fishing ground was not matched with those year. Reliable physical and oceanographical information will be useful for the efficiency of fishing activity. According to the result of monthly movement of center of fishing ground, the fishing activity of jack mackerel fishery was performed northward in the southeastern Pacific Ocean as time passes.
Due to the environmental changes such as decreasing and aging fishing population and increasing imported marine products, improvement of fishing business competitiveness has become one of important issues. This study aimed to analyze the coastal fishing business units in Busan region and compare their business performances in order to find out success factors. The logistic regression analysis between 4 determination factors of competitiveness and business performances showed that the ship tonnage in the factor conditions, catch of species of fishing types'kg per price in the demand conditions, cooperative sales ratio in the related & supporting industries, and net per cost in the firm strategy, and structure & rivalry had the positive(+) impacts on business performances.
The study examined overuse of the fishery resource. Influence of fishing activity was estimated by application of Schaefer model's. Fishing efforts that produced the maximum sustainable yield were determined in the model, allowing the effect of overfishing to be assessed. In the model, a wide variety of fish species as well as crustaceans and shellfish were susceptible to overfishing, while mollusks were not. Overfishing by modern techniques exacted a greater toll than more traditional methods. The results of the modeling study suggest that the 'Buy bag' input-control system of fisheries resource management warrants consideration, as does modernization, expansion and strengthening of self-control management of the fishery resource. Finally, more effective efforts in dissemination of policy information and education concerning the fishery resource are needed.

The secular fluctuations of catches and fishing grounds of mackerals and the oceanographic conditions for the fishing grounds are examined by using the data of catches of mackerals by middle and large class purse-seiner during 1951 to 1981 and those of oceanographic observation carried out by Japan Meteorological Agency. The results are as follows; The fishing grounds of mackerals are respectively distributed at northeastern and southwestern areas from the central part of the East China Sea through every season of the studied years: 1968, 1974 and 1980. The narrow belt type of fishing grounds were formed inside of the Kuroshio in spring and winter of the three years. In summer mackeral species move northward and the fishing grounds are formed in the southern sea of Korea. In winter, however, mackeral species move southward and the fishing grounds are appeared in the Tsushima Current region. The dispersion of fishing grounds is generally larger in summer and smaller in spring, and especially it is the largest in summer in 1980. It seems that the concentration and dispersion of fishing grounds are related to the depth of thermocline and the position of horizontal temperature gradient in this area.

The Norwegian coastal area is the most efficient region for fishery production in the world's oceans, the Norway is the world's top 10 fisheries countries through efficient fishing and fishing aquaculture technology and its scientific management of fisheries bio-resources, with Norwegian salmon having attained the world's highest level. In the late 1980s, fisheries resources were depleted due to overfishing and fish diseases, resulting in a crisis in the fishing industry that lasted until the early 1990s. Since the national fishery emergency, people involved in the fishing industry, including fishermen, research scientists, and government officers, have tried to overcome the challenges facing the industry and identify an appropriate management model for fisheries bio-resources in the Norwegian coastal area. First, research vessels were used to monitor water and sediment conditions and fishery species, with the long-term aim of predicting fishery resources in real time and collecting information on species diversity, abundance, and distribution. Second, a "Healthy Fish Project" was promoted to counter natural disasters and fish disease problems with the development of vaccines against viruses and bacteria, eventually allowing for a decrease in the use of antibiotics and the production of notably healthier fish in the 2000s. Third, a systematic management model was developed to help with preparations for decreases in the total number of fishermen and increases in the proportion of elderly fishermen in the fishery industry using the development of automatic fishing aquaculture systems and short-chain systems. We could learn from the Norwegian model of fisheries bio-resources, management and could adopt it for the preparation of fishery bio-resources management policy for South Korean coastal areas in the near future.
