  • Knowledge on the seaweeds of eastern Sorsogon in the Philippines is uneven. Not only is eastern Sorsogon among the areas of high seaweed diversity but locals there have interacted with seaweeds for ages. Despite seaweeds' assumed importance to Sorsoganon, ethnobotanical records are missing. In this study, we documented the traditional knowledge on seaweed use and determined the rate of knowledge transmission among the locals of eastern Sorsogon. Vernacular names and modes of preparation were given of the 12 identified species bearing culinary and medicinal importance. Ten species were eaten while three were used therapeutically. Based on ethnobotanical indices, Caulerpa chemnitzia ecad turbinata and Gelidiella acerosa were the most important seaweeds. The least cited was Caulerpa racemosa. Our study demonstrated that most of the seaweed resources in eastern Sorsogon remain largely untapped, as the identified ethnotaxa were only about 5% of the total seaweed species diversity reported for the area. The seaweed knowledge in eastern Sorsogon appeared to be homogenous across age groups with primary sources of knowledge biased towards female relatives (mothers and grandmothers) and to children as inheritors. Cessation of seaweed knowledge may come at a potential cost, as a significant fraction of the population did not transmit their knowledge to others. Our study furthered the interest in providing sophisticated resource management recommendations that consider the relationships of traditional and scientific knowledge of seaweed selection and use in eastern Sorsogon and beyond.

  • Environmental differences of each sea around the Korean Peninsula in terms of factors including topography and complexity of sea current may influence species and genetic diversity of marine fishes. Fish are naturally abundant in the frontal area where various currents or water masses meet. However, this food resource is prone to human overexploitation, threatening the marine ecosystem. New fisheries resources management strategies are needed. Such strategies require information about population structure obtained through morphological and genetic methods.

  • Recently the rapid changes of the social environment make both university and every each department should have to renovate and adjust all of the educational components. The most dominant and issuable change of business administration education is the Business Education Accreditation which was certified by the KABEA(Korean Association of Business Education Accreditation). And the only two department of fisheries business administration which in Gyeongsang National University and Pukyong National University has been accredited recently. Though The department of fisheries business administration in Korea has been influenced by that Accreditation, there is few research and analysis on educational change. So it is very important that research on the curricular constitution and change of the curriculum for considering the its own effect and influence. This paper aims to explore the curricular constitution, change and course fulfillment of fisheries business administration after the business education accreditation based on the case of the department of fisheries business administration in Gyeongsang National University. The analysis of fisheries business administration change will help develop sustainable curriculum and give more guideline for identifying the core of fisheries business administration. The method of analysing that in this research has adopt the social network analysis(SNA) and automated software tool which is the most dominant technique in contents analysis including the Krkwics and Pajek. The SNA is evaluated that most popular, rigorous and firm methodology for analyzing, examining and revising some concepts or objects in the context of semantics. The result of this study shows that the ratio of fisheries business administration class has been decreased but still the most fulfilled course. And English mediated class has been avoided though that sort of the class has been increased. In the view point of course fulfillment, it has been potential and inefficient problems that some classes that including financial related and accounting related class would not been accomplished appropriately. The findings of a graduate depth interview which has been done about 4 years for understanding that student show that there's some recognition gap of fisheries business administration in staffs of human resource management. And the level of job satisfaction in fisheries business still somewhat low and even worse the chance of recruitment also unsteady.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of practical diets containing different seaweed powders on the growth and body composition of juvenile sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus. Six experimental diets were formulated to contain 40% of the following seaweed powders: Sargassum thunbergii (ST), Undaria pinnatifida (UP), Ascophyllum nodosum (AN), Hizikia fusiformis (HF), fermented Laminaria japonica (FLJ), and fermented Hizikia fusiformis (FHF). Sea cucumbers (30 per tank; initial mean weight $0.4{\pm}0.01g$) in three replicates of six groups were fed one of the six experimental diets for 15 weeks. Survival in all groups was 83-93%, with no significant differences among the experimental groups. The specific growth rates of the sea cucumbers fed the ST and UP diets were significantly higher than those of sea cucumbers fed the HF, FLJ, and FHF diets, but did not significantly differ from those of sea cucumbers fed the AN diet. The results of this study suggest that S. thunbergii, U. pinnatifida, and A. nodosum could be useful sources of seaweed powder for practical diets of juvenile sea cucumber.

  • This study analyzes the contribution to the national economy of the stable water supply through managing multi-purpose dam. For the analysis, we consider 17 major multi-purpose dams and build a CGE model with summer water and winter water being the production factors as the base year of 2007. We analyze the economic impact of meeting water demand due to the dam management and estimate the risk premium of reducing the uncertainty of water supply. The analysis results show a significant production decrease in the industries of agriculture, forestry and fisheries and tap water as well as the food and beverage industry using the former industries' output as intermediates in the production and show an production increase largely in steel industry and electronic and electrical industries. Being compared to the benchmark solution, GNP is analyzed as being reduced by 0.22~0.68%. Meanwhile, the risk premium is estimated to be about 4 billion to 24 billion won for the value 01 the measure of relative risk aversion in the range 01 0.5 to 3.0.

  • This paper documents the defining morphological characteristics of the larval stages of Chionoecetes tanneri Rathbun, 1893, the grooved Tanner crab, from specimens reared in the laboratory. Chionoecetes tanneri larval stages include two zoeae and one megalopa. The first zoea is characterized by: six setae on the posterior margin of the carapace; postero-lateral spines on abdominal somites 3 and 4, extending beyond the posterior margin of adjacent somites and bearing 9-10 spinnules; 12 plumose setae and one stout distal plumose seta present on the margin of the scaphognathite of the maxilla; and one fused lateral spine and one articulated dorso-medial spine on each fork of the telson. The second zoea is characterized by: 9 setae on the postero-lateral margin of the carapace; a serrated mandible molar; a mandibular palp bud; 25-26 plumose setae on the margin of the scaphognathite of the maxilla; pereiopods with well-developed gills and buds; and four pairs of stout setae on the posterior margin of the telson. For the megalopal stage, the distinguishing characteristics include: a rostral spine equal in length to the supraorbital spine; six setae on the exopod of the uropod; and a single spine on the ischium of the second pereiopod. This study allows C. tanneri larvae to be distinguished from the larvae of known sympatric congeners. This information provides a basic taxonomic tool for researchers in fisheries management and zooplankton ecology who are addressing issues related to trophic interactions, metapopulation dynamics and ecosystem impacts in the evolving marine resource management strategies in the North Pacific, and those related to Chionoecetes species in particular.

  • Demand for spectrum resources is increasing with the development of mobile telecommunications and so is their economic value. As a way to enhance the economic efficiency of use of spectrum resources, many countries have focused on the management of public and broadcasting spectrums which have traditionally been undercharged compared to their economic values. In this paper, we discuss the economic value valuation of the frequencies for the fisheries communications. The estimated value is the average value of the total equipment cost of the mobile communication services that their service coverage is nation-wide, and the value that adjusted the auction price for the LTE service frequencies in 2011 to the characteristics of fisheries communications.

  • The sustainable management and enhancement of marine resources are becoming increasingly important issues worldwide. This study was conducted in response to these challenges, focusing on the development and performance comparison of fish detection and classification models as part of a deep learning-based technique for assessing the effectiveness of marine resource enhancement projects initiated by the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency. The aim was to select the optimal model by training various sizes of YOLOv8-Seg models on a fish image dataset and comparing each performance metric. The dataset used for model construction consisted of 36,749 images and label files of 12 different species of fish, with data diversity enhanced through the application of augmentation techniques during training. When training and validating five different YOLOv8-Seg models under identical conditions, the medium-sized YOLOv8m-Seg model showed high learning efficiency and excellent detection and classification performance, with the shortest training time of 13 h and 12 min, an of 0.933, and an inference speed of 9.6 ms. Considering the balance between each performance metric, this was deemed the most efficient model for meeting real-time processing requirements. The use of such real-time fish detection and classification models could enable effective surveys of marine resource enhancement projects, suggesting the need for ongoing performance improvements and further research.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify a suitable organizational diagnostic model for analyzing the management efficiency of food service firms. We used the three-iteration Delphi technique on a panel of 19 business employees, 7 industry experts, and 4 employees in the food service industry. A total of 36 assessment indicators were developed through this panel, with numerous major findings. First, it is important to evaluate the leadership qualities of employees in terms of their motivation and competency. Second, it is important to evaluate the ability of employees to interface well with other employees. Third, it is important to evaluate and manage the brand image recognized by customers. Fourth, it is important to evaluate the fairness and regularity of the rewards given for an excellent job performance. Fifth, it is important to evaluate the level of communication and information distribution in the organizational culture. Last, but not least, it is important to evaluate the transparency and fairness of an organization in its human resource management (HRM) and the efficiency of its organizational structure. In conclusion, this study empirically shows how food service firms can develop an organizational diagnostic model to increase their managerial efficiency.
