  • The purpose of this study is to complish a method of fish glue malting with residual products such as fish head and skin discarded from sea food processing. Using the skins of Alaska pollack and file fish from fillet packers, the optimum conditions of skin glue processing were investigated and physical and chemical properties of the product were also determined. The yields of Alaska pollack, Thelagra calcogramma, skin and file fish, Novodon modestus, skin to the total body weight were $4.6\%\;and\;5.0\%$ respectively. The optimum conditions for a $49.3\%$n yield Alaska pollack skin glue processing were considered the extraction of previously tinted in $0.1\%$ calcium hydroxide solution for 3 hours with the additional water as much as 3 times of sample weight at $70^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours under the controlled pH 5.0. The conditions for file fish skin glue were similar to those of Alaska pollack except the addition of five times of water to the weight of sample skin needed for extraction. The content of crude protein of Alaska pollack and file fish skin glue were $98.0\%\;and\;96.0\%$ respectively. The contents of crude ash and crude lipid were not different from that of chemical grade gelatin. Relative viscosity, melting point, gelation temperature and jelly strength of Alaska pollack skin glue marked 5.84, $21.8^{\circ}C,\;7.1^{\circ}C\;and\;10.0g$ respectively and those of file fish skin glue showed $5.79,\;25.0^{\circ}C,\;7.4^{\circ}C\;and\;11.6g$ respectively. The color and turbidity of Alaska pollack skin glue are slightly superior to those of file fish skin glue. It is supposed that the extract residue of skin glue is valuable for use the animal feeds by the results of amino acid composition. And the ratio of each amino acid content to the total amino acid of Alaska pollack and file fish skin glue is similar to that of chemical grade gelatin.

  • Lacquer has been used as a natural paint or adhesive in Korea since 2nd century B.C. It has been found to have been used as an adhesive as mentioned in old records and as seen in excavated relics, It was also mixed with flour, animal glue, or fish glue to produce lacquer adhesives. Qualitative analysis and evaluation of the applicability of lacquer and additives was performed in this study. The results of EGA analysis for lacquer additives confirmed that the pyrolysis temperature of lacquer, glucose glue, and animal glue. On the basis of this result, raw lacquer sample was checked that pyrolysis product that originated from urushiol side chain (R group). Components originating from glucose and amino acid were detected in glutinous rice paste and animal glue samples. In this study, the optimum pyrolysis temperature for each lacquer and additive mixture was determined from basic qualitative analysis data. By performing the qualitative analysis of each mixture, the applicability of this technique for analyzing real relics was evaluated.

  • Considering the physical quality of the wall body in this study we tried to select a replenishing that is proper for filling the cracked part of the painting wall layer and apply the natural adhesives that have traditionally been used, investigating whether it is possible to substitute those for the chemical adhesive which is used at present time. The result of this study showed the red algae adhesive was, in a weathering environment, as safe as the synthetic resin originated from the polyvinyl acetate which is used generally on the present spot, and it was concluded that although the starch adhesive displayed its superiority in enhancing the strength of the earth mortar and its work disposition, it seemed proper for it to be used as a filling adhesive for the first or midterm layer because it showed a surface hardening phenomenon. And also the glue and fish glue were judged they were not qualified as a filling adhesive due to mold occurring in a environment of high moisture that is a biological problem, showing at same time a weak physical feature in a weathering environment. Therefore it would be possible to use the red algae adhesive or starch one substituting them for the original one sold on the present market, if among natural adhesives the weak points of the them were to be corrected.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of the vehicle resin on the coating performance of Dan-Chung. The starch glue (F), fish glue (G), and aqueous acrylic resin emulsion (E) were used as vehicle resins. Panels coated with Dan-Chung were tested at accelerated weathering and outdoor conditions. Aqueous acrylic resin was proved as an excellent vehicle resin for Dan-Chung, because there was no flaking in Dan-Chung film after accelerated weathering and outdoor exposure. Discoloration of Dan-Chung using E was the smallest among the acceleratedly weathered panels. Adhesive property of Dan-Chung film using G was. remarkably improved by G-undercoating. On the contrary, G-undercoating lowered adhesive property of Dan-Chung film using E.

  • Transplantation of Sargassum horneri to natural substrate using the rope seeding method was undertaken. Seeding of S. horneri was grown on net in an indoor tank up to 0.2-0.3 cm in frond length for 2 months, and then transplanted to an architecture tile $(10\times10\;cm)$ with underwater glue and an iron pipe. After two months, number of S. horneri on the tile decreased because of grazing by herbivores. However, S. horneri on the iron pipe grew up to 0.5-2.0 cm in frond length. After 7 months, they rapidly grew up to a frond length of 11.0-203.0 cm with a mean frond length of 122.6 cm. S. horneri grew up to a maximum frond length of 313.0 cm, and mean frond length of 228.0 cm, after 10 months. The artificial S. hornevi beds can be used to clean the seawater and also be utilized as a source of marine biomass as well as for supplying habitat, shelter and spawning beds for fish and invertebrates.

  • The purpose of this research is to conserve of golden decoration(Jikgeumdan) of Chima(skirt) and Jeogori(Korean jacket) of the costumes excavated from Hangju Gi' tomb(17th Century) of Joseon dynasty$(1392{\sim}1910)$ and to focus on the development of conservation skill to prevent flakings of gold leaves in gilt paper strips. Up to the present, in case of golden decorations of costumes excavated from tombs of Joseon dynasty, some of gold leaves in gilt paper strips of costumes were flaked away by deterioration of adhesives in tombs. However, most of gold leaves were flaked away and totally lost by wet cleaning for eliminating contaminants after excavation. In order to prevent flaking, preliminary experiments for re-adhesion of gold leaves have been carried out. Firstly, simulation was performed using gold leaf which was available in the market. Adhesives used in this research were water-soluble adhesives(hide glue(cow, rabbit), glue made from air bladders of sciaenoid fish and Primal AC-3444 of acrylic emulsion) and solvent-soluble adhesives(acrylic adhesive Paraloid B-67 and B-72). Because of difficulty in wetting and spreading of adhesive solutions into the interface between gold leaf and Korean paper, water-soluble adhesives were not proper for adhesion of gold leaf and Korean paper. Solvent-soluble adhesives were easily infiltrated into interface between gold leaf and Korean paper and the adhesive force was also satisfied. From this result, the researchers chose more flexible Paraloid B-72$(Tg\;40^{\circ}C)$ 1% solution than Paraloid B-67$(Tg\;50^{\circ}C)$ for adhesion of gold leaf and Korean paper. Secondly, using Paraloid B-72 1% solution, the estimations of re-adhesions of gold leaves in gilt paper strips of Jeogori were carried out. When Paraloid B-72 1% solution was injected three times into the interface between gold leaf and Korean paper, the re-adhesion was most effective. On the basis of the results in these preliminary experiments, re-adhesions of gold leaves in gilt paper strips of Chima and Jeogori were carried out on condition of three times injections of Paraloid B-72 1% solution before wet cleaning. After wet cleaning, the most of the gold leaves were survived, which was confirmed by both the examination with the naked eye and the microscopic examination.

  • The purpose of this paper is to study the basic medicine of the Gojoseon(古朝鮮) dynasty, especially 5 fields which are the theory of yin-yang(陰陽論), the theory of 5 progressive phasis(五行論), the theory of mind-body(心身論), Seon-gyo(仙敎), acupuncture(鍼術). The theory of yin-yang can be studied in the point of contents of it, not the name of it. Whan-in(桓因) is the god of sky, Woong(熊) is the god of earth. Whan-woong(桓雄), who is the son of Whan-in(桓因), came down from the sky, turned into a man. Woong(熊) lived in the cave, eating garlic and wormwood for 21days, got out of it and turned into a woman. The changes occurred by the mutual aid of Whan-woong and Woong. The theory of 5 progressive phasis can be founded in the archery. The bow and arrow is made of cucumber, horn and ligament of cow, glue made from airbladders of sciaenoid fish, which belong to mock(木). Beejeongbeepal(非丁非八) and make strong one's abdomen(腹實) belong ti soo(水), empty out one's chest(胞虛) belongs to whar(畵), thrusting(前推泰山) belongs to mock(木), shooting(發如虎尾) belongs to geom(金). Basically mind and body have no differance. Mind without body does not exist. Exocism excites the exorcist to the condition of whar(火). There are 3 parts, as treaLment, prevent, regimen, in the medicine. 2 parts as idealism and realism are in regimen. Seon-gyo(仙敎) belongs to the idealism of regimen. In China, is became Taoism(仙敎) later The art of accupunture was developed in the Gulf of pohair(渤海灣).
