The purpose of this study is to analyze the effective factors that influence subjective cognition, conflict degree of work-family balance, and cognition of family strength according to general characteristic factors, working environmental factors, and home environmental factors, as well as analyze the relationships among subjective cognition, conflict degree, and cognition of family strength. The main data source for analysis in this study is the Second National Survey of Korean Families by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family in 2010. The survey includes the analysis of 419 respondents who have a dual income and live with their wife. The collected data are analyzed using SPSS 19.0. The results of the study are as follows. First, subjective cognition of work-family balance is influenced by satisfaction of work, division of housework, and care of family. Second, the conflict degree of work-family balance is influenced by age, working week, and satisfaction with work. Third, the relationship between subjective cognition and conflict degree of work-family balance is a negative correlation. The relationship between subjective cognition of work-family balance and cognition of family strength is a positive correlation but the difference between conflict degree of work-family balance and cognition of family strength is not significant. Finally, for the married men, the working environmental factor is a significant factor for the work-family balance. And the higher the satisfaction of work and division of domestic work, the greater is the balance between work and family. This suggests that they also have a higher cognition of family strength.
The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of performance of living proprieties on family adaptability and self-esteem, centering on the married men and women residing in the city of Seoul. 220 respondents were randomly selected in July 2000 for the present research. The results of this study were as follows : First, the performance of living proprieties revealed a relatively high level and was shown a significant difference by sex, age, family type, religion, the number of children, experience of propriety education, value orientation, and the degree of communication. Second, family adaptability revealed a relatively high level and was shown a significant difference by family type, experience of propriety education, and the degree of communication. Self-esteem was shown a significant difference by the number of children and degree of communication. Third, background variable (age), the performance of living proprieties (communication manner, family decorum, social etiquette), and family adaptability had a significant effect on self-esteem. This implies that the performance of living proprieties rather than socio-demographic variables has a positive effect on self-esteem.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the family stresses and its managing strategy to cope with the stresses, and family strengths among commuting couples. The participants of this study consisted of a national samples of 134 couples (268 individuals), whose has been commuting for at least six months The major findings obtained from the study are summarized in the following: 1) The degree of family stresses among commuting couples was 2.98, when the maximal stress value was set to 5.0. The most stressful aspect for the commuting couples came from the role of parents who care for their children. 2) The degree of coping strategy among commuting couples was 3.37, when the maximal coping strategy value was set to 5.0. Among the strategies, the 'cognitive restructuring' shows the first. 3) The degree of family strengths among commuting couples was 3.76, when the maximal strengths value was set to 5.0. Also factors affecting the family strengths among commuting couples are dependent on their educational degree, religion, kind of jobs, commuting and conjugal periods, moving person, meeting frequencies, self-esteem and marital satisfaction. 4) The most effective variable of family strengths among commuting couples was marital satisfaction.
Background: The aim of this study was to assess clinical factors associated with Helicobacter pylori positivity and to evaluate the incidence of gastric carcinoma in first-degree family members of infected patients. A total of 580 patients (mean age:$38{\pm}17$) with gastrointestinal complaints underwent C-14 urea breath test (UBT). Patients were grouped as: Group-1, untreated patients (n:384); and Group-2, patients who previously treated with eradication triple therapy (n:196). C-14 UBT was performed 1-2 months after the completion of eradication therapy. Associations of H pylori positivity with age, gender, ABO and Rhesus groups, smoking, dietary habits, and history of gastric cancer in first-degree family members were evaluated. The frequency of H pylori positivity was significantly higher in group-1 (58%) compared to group-2 (20%), p=0.001. There were no correlations between H pylori positivity and age, gender, ABO groups, Rhesus subgroups, smoking and dietary habits in both patient groups. The frequency of gastric cancer in family members was significantly higher in patients with H pylori infection among group-1, compared to infected patients among group-2 (56% vs. 28.6% respectively, p=0.03). We observed a significant association between H pylori positivity and the presence of gastric cancer in first-degree relatives of group-1 patients. Our results provide some confirmation of the presence of a link between gastric cancer development and H pylori. C-14 UBT is a sensitive, reliable and a widely recommended test for the detection of H pylori infection and recurrence. We suggest that detection and eradication of H pylori may contribute to a reduced risk of gastric cancer in the family members of infected patients.
This study entered the relationship between family strengths and ego-resilience of school-aged children. The Family Strengths Scale is composed of four factors; family commitment, family communication, family values and family crisis coping strategies. The participants were 392 mothers with school-aged children. The main results were as follows; First, the degree of family strengths was generally high. Family commitment was the highest and family values was the lowest among the four factors. Second, the degree of ego-resilience of school-aged children reported by the mothers was also generally high. Finally, two factors of family strengths, that are, family communication and family values, had positive influences on ego-resilience of children.. The implications of this study were discussed.
Background: This study aimed to research the awareness of screening colonoscopy (SC) among patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) and their relatives. Methodology: A questionnaire form including information and behavior about colonoscopic screening for CRCs of patients and their first-degree relatives (FDRs) was prepared. Results: A total of 406 CRC patients were enrolled into the study, with 1534 FDRs (siblings n: 1381 and parents n: 153). Positive family history for CRC was found in 12% of the study population. Previous SC was performed in 11% of patients with CRC. Mean age of the patients whose FDRs underwent SC was lower than the patients whose FDRs did not (52 vs 57 years; p<0,001). The frequency of SC in FDRs was 64% in patients diagnosed CRC under 35 years of age. Persons having a positive family history of CRC had SC more often (51 vs 22%, p<0,001). FDRs of patients having a higher educational level and income had SC more frequently. Conclusions: When screening for CRC is planned, elderly subjects, those with family history for CRC, and those with low educational and lower income should be given esspecial attention in order that they be convinced to undergo screening for CRC.
The number of the functionally disabled elderly has been increasing in Korea and their families should have been in charge of supporting and taking care of them. This study was designed to grope for devices which were helpful to improve the psychological welfare of the functionally disabled elderly in the present situation. The results of this study were as follows: First, considering the level of psychological welfare of the functionally disabled elderly, the depression degree of the subjects was 52.9 which was higher than the middle point, 50. And the degree of family support the functionally disabled elderly were aware of, it also was high ; the score was 34.6 compared to the middle point, 33. On the other hand, the degree of public support that the functionally disabled elderly received was 2.01 which was lower than the middle point, 4.5. Second, the level of the depression of the functionally disabled elderly followed by background variables, the degree of agreement with family support, and public support represented significant differences among group according to religion, the type of previous occupation, the ownership of house, the type of residence, the presence of spouse, education level, and the source of income. Third, the relative influence toward the depression of the functionally disabled elderly was shown in the order of importance as follows: family support, the degree of functional disability, the ownership of house, public support, the presence of spouse, the source of income, the number of daughters, the degree of functional disablity.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the perceptional degree of Stress on family life events, and find out that family enviornment variables and individual resources among the family resources have effected on Stress. For the data, 316 mothers who first child is preschool were selected. The data were analysed with the spss pc+ program using M, SD, Factor analysis, one-way analysis of variance, Regression. The main results are as follows; First, the perceptional degree of stress is relatively middle. Second, among the family enviornmental variables mother's age, mother's educational level, father's educational level, mother's job have influence on the stress. Third, among the individual variables health, self-esteem have on the stress.
This study is about safety education experience and practice of parents who are raising preschool children and the study results are as the following. For safety education experience state, parents had experience of safety education and mostly received it through communities, TV, Internet, etc. The most common educational content was the traffic safety education. For safety education practice degree according to number of children, safety education practice was mostly done well with 1~2 children. For safety education practice degree according to family type, safety education practice degree within the family was done most in nuclear families while healthy life habit safety education practice degree was done most in nuclear families and reconstituted families. Also, for traffic safety education practice degree, it was done well in nuclear families. For respiratory disease safety education practice degree, nuclear families and reconstituted families were the highest and for first aid safety education practice degree, single-parent families were the highest. For safety knowledge level of parents, safety knowledge of family was the highest, followed by safety knowledge of respiratory disease, and traffic. For safety education practice degree and safety knowledge according to safety education experience of parents, there was a significant difference in practice degree according to safety education experience of parents and there was also difference in practice knowledge according to experience. There was also education effect in healthy life habit safety knowledge and traffic safety knowledge.
This study is for examining the differences of perceived stresses and family strengths between the parents according to socio-demographic backgrounds(age, educational level, income and the degree of disorder) of the parents having mentally retarded children. The results were as follows. First, in the overall perceived stress level, there was no difference between fathers and mothers, but when compared in stress areas, fathers experience more distresses in general interpersonal areas than mothers. Fathers also shows differences according to the degrees of their income and their perception about disorder compared with mothers showing differences according to the degree of income. Second, there were no differences in family strengths perceived by both fathers and mothers, but were significant differences according to the level of education and income. Another words, higher the education and income level, higher is their family strengths level. Third, there were positive correlations between the perceived stresses and family strengths, and significant differences in family strengths according to the stress level(higher/lower part of the group). In other words, when the perceived stress level is high, the level of perceived family strengths is low.
