전북 인천강 하구역에서 출현한 망둑어과(농어목) 한국미기록종, Gymnogobius cylindricus (First Record of Gymnogobius cylindricus (Perciformes: Gobiidae) from Incheon River Estuary, Jeonbuk-do, Korea)

  • 우리나라 서남부의 인천강 하구역에 설치된 실뱀장어잡이 그물에서 망둑어과 꾹저구속 Gymnogobius cylindricus 1개체(표준체장 49.9 mm)가 채집되어 한국미기록종 및 분포의 서방한계로 보고한다. 본 종은 머리가 납작하며 몸이 가늘고 긴 점, 등지느러미 기조수가 VI-I, 12, 뒷지느러미 기조수가 I, 11, 체측의 어두운 반점열이 몸의 복부에 도달하지 않는 점 및 꼬리지느러미 하방에 반점열이 없는 점이 특징이다. 본 종의 신한국명으로 "가는살망둑"을 제안한다.

한국사 최초의 흉부외과 관련 의학기록 (The First Written Medical Record on Thoracic Surgery in Korean History)

  • 1909년 12월 22일 당시 23세의 애국청년 이재명에 의해 이루어진 이완용 암살 기도 사건은 비록 그 결과는 실패로 끝났지만 지금까지도 민족정기를 크게 고취시켰던 사건으로 높이 평가받고 있다. 그런데 이 사건에 연관되어 이재명의 재판을 위해 당시 작성된 이완용의 상해감정서에는 여러 부분에서 의미있는 흉부외과적 기술이 포함되어 있다. 즉 늑골하연 자상, 늑간동맥 출혈, 폐손상, 좌흉부타박상, 외상성 늑막염 등의 전문적인 흉부외과 병명이 언급되고 있으며 그리고 기흉과 혈흉을 의미하는 기술(폐를 손상하여 창공으로부터 출혈 및 호흡에 수반된 공기 출입이 있었다)도 포함되어 있다. 또한 흉부천자술에 의한 혈성 삼출액 배출이라는 외과적 시술에 관해서도 기록되어 있다. 이 기록은 여러 정황 분석 상 한국사 최초의 흉부외과 관련 의학기록으로 판단된다. 따라서 본 연구논문은 우리나라 근대사에서 중요한 의미를 지닌 한 사건을 통하여 한국사 최초의 흉부외과 관련 기록을 발굴, 분석하였다는데 그 의미가 크다고 할 것이다.

Macruropyxis fraxini on Fraxinus rhynchophylla: Confirmation in the Korean Peninsula after 82 Years and the First Record in South Korea

  • Macruropyxis fraxini has been recorded on several species of Fraxinus in China, Japan, Russia (Far East), and North Korea since its first recorded observation as a rust fungus on F. rhynchophylla in Jilin, China, in 1899. In the Korean Peninsula, the rust fungus was first recorded on F. rhynchophylla in 1935, based on four specimens collected at Mt. Kumgangsan, Gangwondo Province, in the North Korean territory. We confirmed this rust in the Korean Peninsula after 82 years. The rust fungus was identified based on morphological characteristics and a molecular phylogenetic analysis. This is the first record of M. fraxini in South Korea.

First Report of Mud Shrimp Austinogebia wuhsienweni (Crustacea: Decapoda: Upogebiidae) from Korean Waters

  • Specimens of Austinogebia wuhsienweni (Yu, 1931) previously recorded from China to Japan were collected at a manila clam farm of 0.5 m depth in Hongseong, Yellow Sea. They were briefly described and illustrations included color photographs, since this was the first record of this rare species from Korean waters. Three species of Upogebiidae are known from Korean waters: Upogebia major (De Haan, 1839), U. issaeffi (Balss, 1913), and A. wuhsienweni (Yu, 1931). They are similar to each other, however, the presence of the ventral spines of the rostrum, a proximal knob on the lateral margin of the uropodal endopod, and a longitudinal carina on the inner surface of the palm of the male first pereiopod can easily distinguish the present species from the two species of Upogebia.

New record of the genus Neodilsea and N. yendoana (Dumontiaceae, Gigartinales) in Korea

  • A marine algal species was collected from the southern coast of Korea. This alga is characterized by a large and cartilaginous thallus, a dichotomous branching pattern, compressed axes, rare proliferations near the apex, and cystocarps protruded toward surface. In a phylogenetic tree based on rbcL sequences, this species nests in the same clade as Neodilsea yendoana as a terminal clade of the genus Neodilsea. The genetic distance between both sequences within the clade was calculated as 0.2% considered to be in the intraspecific range within the genus. Based on the morphological and molecular data obtained in the present study, this Korean species is identified as N. yendoana. This is the first record of the genus Neodilsea and N. yendoana in Korea.

First Record of Callochiton foveolatus (Polyplacophora: Callochitonidae) from Korea

  • The genus Callochiton Gray, 1847 is small to medium sized chiton (up to $55{\times}36mm$ in size) and includes approximately 30 species worldwide, most of which are found on hard substrata in subtidal zone. To date, only three species of Callochiton Gray, 1847 have been reported in Japan. In this study, we found C. foveolatus(Is. Taki, 1938) as first record of the family Callochitonidae Plate, 1901 in Korea and its morphological features were described and compared with other northwestern Pacific species. In addition, the partial fragment of mitochondrial DNA cytochrome c oxidase subunit I sequences of C. foveolatus was determined as DNA barcoding record and compared with other congeneric species.

A new record of Pseudoleucon japonicus(Crustacea: Cumacea: Leuconidae) from Korea

  • Only four species of leuconids have been recorded in Korea, all belonging to the genera Eudorella Norman, 1867 and Nippoleucon Watling, 1991. In this study, Pseudoleucon japonicus Gamô, 1964 belonging to family Leuconidae Sars, 1878 is newly recorded for Korean cumacean fauna. Also, for the first time, the male of the species is fully described and illustrated. The specimens were collected from the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the western sea (Yellow Sea) of Korea, with a rectangular dredge during 2007-2008. This species is characterized by the following features: the carapace has strong serrations on the antero-lateral margin and a pair of short oblique ridges on the side surface; the ridges begin near the end of frontal lobe and merge with the dorsal median carina; the appendages, such as antenna 1, pereopod 2 and uropod have a lot of simple setae decorated with a bundle of hairs at the end. The present study represents the first record on the genus Pseudoleucon Zimmer, 1903 from Korea.

First Record of the Genus Aora (Crustacea, Amphipoda, Aoridae) from Korea, with Description of Newly Recorded Species, Aora pseudotypica

  • A newly recorded species, Aora pseudotypica Hirayama, 1984, belonging to the family Aoridae Stebbing, 1899 was collected from Geomundo and Jejudo Islands in South Korea. This species is characterized by having large triangular process on basis of male gnathopod 1. It is morphologically similar to A. typica Krøyer, 1845, but distinguishable by the lack of a large rounded process on the anterior margins of basis and ischium on male gnathopod 1 and having small distal segment on outer ramus of uropod 3. To date, only two genera, Aoroides Walker, 1898 and Grandidierella Coutière, 1904, of the family Aoridae have been recorded in Korea, so this is the first record of the genus Aora from Korea.

제주도 남부 해역에서 채집된 Ptereleotris evides (망둑어목: 청황문절과) 한국 첫기록 (First Record of Ptereleotris evides (Gobiiformes: Microdesmidae) from the Southern Jejudo Island, Korea)

  • A single specimen (30.35 mm standard length) of Ptereleotris evides was collected from the southern coast of Jejudo Island, Korea, in September 2017 during a skin diving outing. Ptereleotris evides is characterized by having a slightly elongated body, six spines on the 1st dorsal fin, one spine and 25 soft rays on the 2nd dorsal fin, 22 pectoral fin rays, one spine and four soft rays on the pelvic fin, one spine and 25 soft rays on the anal fin, and no disc in pelvic fin. This species differs from the congeneric species, P. hanae and P. heteroptera in having no elongated rays on the caudal fin and a black spot at the ventral margin of the caudal peduncle, respectively. Molecular analysis results based on mitochondrial DNA cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) sequences showed that our specimen almost corresponded to P. evides (99.82%) sequences from registered at the NCBI. As this is the first record of P. evides in Korean waters, we propose a new Korean name for it, "Ga-mak-cheong-hwang-mun-jeol".
