  • The object of this paper is to analyze the surface temperature of RC structures caused by fire. The experimental analysis is undertaken by using following two methods. 1) Simulation to analyze the relationship between the temperature and the condition change for glass wool caused by fire. 2) Temperature-analysis (TG/DTA tests) of RC structures. From the results of the two experimental analysis, it was possible to estimate the temperature of RC concrete structures caused by fire.

  • The characteristics of the spread of a forest fire are generally related to the attributes of combustibles, geographical features, and meteorological conditions, such as wind conditions. The most common methodology used to create a prediction model for the spread of forest fires, based on the numerical analysis of the development stages of a forest fire, is an analysis of heat energy transmission by the stage of heat transmission. When a forest fire breaks out, the analysis of the transmission velocity of heat energy is quantifiable by the spread velocity of flame movement through a physical and chemical analysis at every stage of the fire development from flame production and heat transmission to its termination. In this study, the formula used for the 1-dimensional surface forest fire behavior prediction model, derived from a numerical analysis of the surface flame spread rate of solid combustibles, is introduced. The formula for the 1-dimensional surface forest fire behavior prediction model is the estimated equation of the flame spread velocity, depending on the condition of wind velocity on the ground. Experimental and theoretical equations on flame duration, flame height, flame temperature, ignition temperature of surface fuels, etc., has been applied to the device of this formula. As a result of a comparison between the ROS(rate of spread) from this formula and ROSs from various equations of other models or experimental values, a trend suggesting an increasing curved line of the exponent function under 3m/s or less wind velocity condition was identified. As a result of a comparison between experimental values and numerically analyzed values for fallen pine tree leaves, the flame spread velocity reveals has a error of less than 20%.

  • This paper presents an investigation on the fire resistance of high strength fiber reinforced concrete filled box columns (CFBCs) under combined temperature and loading. Two groups of full-size specimens were fabricated. The control group was a steel box filled with high-strength concrete (HSC), while the experimental group consisted of a steel box filled with high strength fiber concrete (HFC) and two steel boxes filled with fiber reinforced concrete. Prior to fire test, a constant compressive load (i.e., load level for fire design) was applied to the column specimens. Thermal load was then applied on the column specimens in form of ISO 834 standard fire curve in a large-scale laboratory furnace until the set experiment termination condition was reached. The test results show that filling fiber concrete can improve the fire resistance of CFBC. Moreover, the configuration of longitudinal reinforcements and transverse stirrups can significantly improve the fire resistance of CFBCs.

  • Normally, the degradation of concrete member exposed to fire is largely dependent on the fire scale and fire condition. With all ensuring the fire resistance structure as a method of setting the required cover thickness to fire, the RC is significantly affected from the standpoint of its structural stability that the compressive strength and elastic modulus is reduced by fire. Thus, this study is concerned with experimentally investigating fire resistance of high strength-light weight concrete. From the test result, high strength-light weight concrete is happened explosive spalling. The decrease of cross section caused by explosive spalling made sharp increasing gradient of inner temperature.

  • This research conducts CAE analysis of fire damper and design of damper controlling system. The prediction of the design heat transfer was done the answer of fire damper could be obtained by using continuity equation of damper controlling and orthogonal array. Through the design analysis of optimal offshore construction, new fire damper of H-120 class was designed. Accordingly, this equipment will be tested in actual offshore construction. Finally, we could obtain fire damper of optimal design with orthogonal array. With the CAE results of this research, The offshore plant will obtain eco-friendly fire damper with a method to select optimal condition of fire damper with orthogonal array.

  • Fire, usually a detrimental factor makes changes in commonly structure and functions when it is practiced properly. In countries like Australia, South Africa, Japan and Texas in USA etc., fire is used as a tool to manage the natural ecosystems in productive condition on the basis of ecological approach. However, in developing countries like India there is effective measure to use and control fire in rangelands. This review provides knowledge on changes in sociological characters of plants, biomass profile, cycling of materials and strategy to use fire for the shaping of communities in different rangelands located in India and other countries. Further, the informations furnished in this article will be more useful for the forest managers, planners of rangelands and administrators in countries like India and tropical countries with similar bioclimatic conditions to prepare appropriate management plans where the fire is an integral factor.

  • This study presented the development of a user centered school facility fire safety evaluation model that would support fire safety evaluation, which is globally recognized as being important in terms of school safety, to be more efficiently implemented in the school field mainly by students. The study consisted of five steps. First, actual condition survey tools were developed based on the major fire safety evaluation items derived through literature review. Second, the characteristics of domestic school facilities in terms of fire safety were developed using the survey tools. Third, an evaluation model at a level utilizable by students was developed based on the foregoing characteristics. Fourth, the applicability of the model was verified through a trial application of the model to elementary school students. Finally, legal and institutional improvement plans and fire safety education materials were presented through a policy proposal.

  • This study is carried out for the fire safety of the factory building, the fire risk reduction measure in compliance with an example approached in fire risk reduction systematically, contribute to reduce the fire risk. The analytical fire risk process of discovering, identifying, estimating and evaluating risk and control measure as risk reduction measures are core concept, applies loss prevention with loss control techniques. The painting process in the workplace where the fire hazard and death accident accompanies coexists. Loss prevention problem of creation prevention of dangerous atmosphere at workplace is health and human services problem of normal circumstances, must be inspected with problem of combustible gases at the time of fire explosion. Static electricity measure accomplished the risk control process thoroughly as the fire risk reduction process model with the ignition sources measure which is presented. Fire risk from within organizing will be able to classify with each field by detailedly but risk treatment process will be able to apply basically all the same concept. Consequently about risk management example from before, this study is proposed risk management techniques that standardized rightly in the actual condition of organization with one plan, with discovery of fire risk, the feedback process in compliance with a fire risk reduction and the review which control the result is joint responsibility of engineer, technical expert and manager as part of safety management to practice with the fact must be supervised.

  • For managing fire safety system in building by ubiquitous management system, the index system to express the performance level of fire protection system is demanded. If some component formed fire protection system such as sprinkler water supply system is breakdown, that will fall down the performance of fire protection capacity. Consequently, it will affects the level of fire safety of building management and energy response. Consequently, Building fire protection system could give performance level of fire protection condition and the level of fire safety in building. It will also contribute to the development of wide area fire safety management. This development of index system has been developed as a part of the development project of Ubiquitous building fire management system.

  • High strength steels have been widely applied in recent years due to high strength and good working performance. When subjected to fire conditions, the strength and elastic modulus of high strength steels deteriorate significantly and hence the load bearing capacity of structures reduces at elevated temperatures. The reduction factors of mechanical properties of high strength steels are quite different from mild steels. Therefore, the fire design methods deduced from mild steel structures are not applicable to high strength steel structures. In recent ten years, the first author of this paper has carried out a lot of fundamental research on fire behavior of high strength steels and structures. Summary of these research is presented in this paper, including mechanical properties of high strength steels at elevated temperature and after fire exposure, creep response of high strength steels at elevated temperature, residual stresses of welded high strength steel member after fire exposure, fire resistance of high strength steel columns, fire resistance of high strength steel beams, local buckling of high strength steel members, and residual strength of high strength steel columns after fire exposure. The results show that the mechanical properties of high strength steel in fire condition and the corresponding fire resistance of high strength steel structures are different from those of mild steel and structures, and the fire design methods recommended in current design codes are not applicable to high strength steel structures.
