The stage 1 compaction behavior of tool steel powder under die pressing was studied. The friction effects between the powder and the die wall under different die pressing modes were also investigated. The elastoplastic constitutive equations based on the yield functions by Fleck et al. and by Shima and Oyane were implemented into a finite element program to simulate die compaction processes. Finite element calculations were compared with experimental data for densification and density distribution of tool steel powder under single and double action die pressing. Finite element calculations using the yield function by Fleck et al. agreed better with experimental data than by Shima and Oyane.
This paper is the study on stress analysis for tooth modification of high speed gear using a finite element method. Gear drives constitute very important mechanisms in transmitting mechanical power processes compromising several cost effective and engineering advantages. The load transmission occurred by the contacting surfaces arises variable elastic deformations which are being evaluated through finite element analysis. The automatic gear design program is developed to model gear shape precisely. This gear design system developed was used by pre-processor of FEM packages. The distribution of stresses at contacting surfaces was examined when gear tooth contacts. And this paper proposes method for the tooth modification after carrying out stress analysis using a finite element method.
The histories and distributions of dynamic stresses in an orthotropic hollow cylinder under sinusoidal impact load are obtained by making use of eigenfunction expansion method in this paper. Dynamic equations for axially symmetric orthotropic problem are founded and results are carried out for a practical example in which an orthotropic hollow cylinder is in initially at rest and subjected to a dynamic interior pressure $p(t)=-{\sigma}_0(sin{\alpha}t+1)$. The features of the solution appear the propagation of the cylindrical waves. The other hand, a dynamic finite element solution for the same problem is also got by making use of structural software (ABAQUS) program. Comparing theoretical solution with finite element solution, it can be found that two kinds of results obtained by two different solving methods are suitably approached. Thus, it is further concluded that the method and computing process of the theoretical solution are effective and accurate.
Densification behavior of composite powders was investigated during cold compaction. Experimental data were obtained for aluminum alloy powder mixed with zirconia powder inclusion under triaxial compression. The Cap model with constraint factors was implemented into a finite element program (ABAQUS) to simulate compaction responses of composite powders during cold compaction. Finite element results were compared with experimental data for densification behavior of composite powders under cold isostatic pressing and die compaction. The agreements between experimental data and finite element calculations from the Cap model with constraint factors were good.
Knowledge of the complex biomechanical behavior of the human mandible is of great importance in various clinical situations. Various approaches can be used to evaluate the physical behavior of bone. In this study, we developed the voxel mesh program(Bionix) and generated FE models of mandible using Bionix and using handmade work and compared them with free vibration results derived from finite element analysis(FEA). The data of FE models based on DICOM File exported from Computed tomography(CT). Comparing the two models, we found a good correlation about mode type and natural frequency. The voxel based finite element mesh is a valid and accurate method to predict parameters of the complex biomechanical behavior of human mandibles.
Densification, grain growth, and phase transformation of nanocrystalline ceramic powder were investigated under pressureless sintering, sinter forging, and hot pressing. A constitutive model for densification of nanocrystalline ceramic powder was proposed and implemented into a finite element program (ABAQUS). A grain growth model was also proposed by including the effect of applied stress on grain growth when phase transformation occurs. Finite element results by using the proposed models well predicted densification behavior, deformation, and grain growth of nanocrystalline titania powder during pressureless sintering, sinter forging, and hot pressing. Finite element results by using the proposed model also well predicted experimental data in the literature for densification behavior of nanocrystalline zirconia powder during pressureless sintering and sinter forging.
Densification behavior of mixed copper and tool steel powder under cold compaction was investigated. By mixing the yield functions originally proposed by Fleck-Gurson for pure powder, a new mixed yield functions In terms of volume fractions and contact numbers of Cu powder were employed in the constitutive models. The constitutive equations were implemented into a finite element program (ABAQUS) to compare with experimental data. and with calculated results from the model of Kim et at. for densification of mixed powder under cold isostatic pressing and cold die compaction. Finite element calculations by using the yield functions mixed by contact numbers of Cu powder agreed better with experimental data than those by volume fractions of Cu powder.
Effective properties of ceramic matrix plain woven textile composites were calculated using finite element analysis. The considered geometry is a unit cell of plain weave and the analysis was performed by commercial finite element program, ANSYS. The materials for analysis are 3 types for matrix, 1 type for fiber with various volume fraction. The result indicates that the effective properties of ceramic matrix composites can be controlled by the volume fraction. The result can be used for numerical analysis using ceramic matrix composites.
As one of numerical methods, the Finite Element Method (FEM) is very widely used to analyze electrical machines these days. However, the most electrical machines have a motion and it is very important to consider a motion in electrical machine analysis. In this paper, Moving Surface Method is suggested as a new approach to consider a motion and discuss its advantages and disadvantages. And also, a finite element analysis program which applied Moving Surface Method is developed and we evaluate its results compared with experimental results of a real model.
