  • This paper is proposed to select the optimal finite element type in finite element analysis. Based on the NUREG reports, static analyses were performed using a commercial analysis program, $ABAQUS^{TM}$. In this study, we used a nonlinear kinematic hardening model proposed by Chaboche. The analysis result of solid elements by inputting the same material constants was different from the results of the NUREG report. This is resulted from the difference between shell element and solid element. Therefore, the material constants that have similar result to the experimental result were determined and compared according to element type. In case of using solid element for efficient finite element analysis, we confirmed that the use of C3D8I element type(incompatible mode 8-node linear brick element) leads the accurate result while reducing the analysis time.

  • Based on the traditional mechanical model of thin-walled straight beam, the paper makes analysis and research on the pre-twisted thin-walled beam finite element numerical model. Firstly, based on the geometric deformation differential relationship, the Saint-Venant warping strain of pre-twisted thin-walled beam is deduced. According to the traditional thin-walled straight beam finite element mechanical model, the finite element stiffness matrix considering the Saint-Venant warping deformations is established. At the same time, the paper establishes the element stiffness matrix of the pre-twisted thin-walled beam based on the classic Vlasov Theory. Finally, by calculating the pre-twisted beam with elliptical section and I cross section and contrasting three-dimensional solid finite element using ANSYS, the comparison analysis results show that pre-twisted thin-walled beam element stiffness matrix has good accuracy.

  • Based on continuum mechanics and the principle of virtual displacements, incremental total Lagrangian formulation (T.L.) and incremental updated Lagrangian formulation (U.L.) were presented. Both T.L. and U.L. considered the large displacement stiffness matrix, which was modified to be symmetrical matrix. According to the incremental updated Lagrangian formulation, small strain, large displacement, finite rotation of three dimensional Timoshenko fiber beam element tangent stiffness matrix was developed. Considering large displacement and finite rotation, a new type of tangent stiffness matrix of the beam element was developed. According to the basic assumption of plane section, the displacement field of an arbitrary fiber was presented in terms of nodal displacement of centroid of cross-area. In addition, shear deformation effect was taken account. Furthermore, a nonlinear finite element method program has been developed and several examples were tested to demonstrate the accuracy and generality of the three dimensional beam element.

  • A general-purpose program for automatic two-dimensional finite-element modelling with quadrilateral elements was developed in this research. The conventional looping method employed in the program was introduced with emphasis on a new splitting criterion and a splitting scheme developed for improving the method. Some application examples were given, which show versatility and applicability of the developed program.

  • In this paper, the approximately coupled method of finite element method and boundary element method to obtain efficient and accurate analysis results is proposed for a two-dimensional elasto-static problem with a geometrically abruptly changing part. As the finite element of a two-dimensional problem, three-node and four-node plane stress element is applied, and as the boundary element of a two-dimensional problem, three-node boundary element is applied. In the modeling stage, firstly, an entire analysis target object is modeled as finite elements, and then a geometrically abruptly changing part is modeled as boundary elements. The boundary element is defined using the nodes defined for modeling finite elements. In the analysis stage, finite element analysis is firstly performed on a entire analysis target object, and boundary element analysis is automatically performed afterwards. As for the boundary conditions at boundary element analysis, displacement conditions and stress conditions, which are the results of finite element analysis, are applied. As a numerical example, the analysis results for a two-dimensional elasto-static problem, a plate with a crack, are presented and investigated.

  • Analysis of Dynamic Characterisocs of Rectangular Plate by Finite Element Method. Dynamic characteristics of a rectangular plate with opening in it is studied by finite element method. To investigate these characteristics 12 degrees of freedom membrane finite element in used. The rectangular membrane finite elements are defined by specifying geometry, internal displacement functions and strain-displacement relations. Then, the governing equation for the finite element is derived by energy method. To derive the mass matrix and stiffness matrix of the element, expressions for strain and kineic energy in terms of the node displacement are generated. In constructing the overall structure matrix, the matrix of each elements are superposed and partitioned by applying the given boundary condition to obtain a nonslngular matrix. To find the natural freguencies and viration modes, the eigen values and the corresponding eigen vectors are computed by the computer using well known Jacobi power method. In order to verify the capability of the membrane finite element, a flat rectangular plate is analyzed first, and the result is compared with well known analytical results to show the good agreement. A rectangular plate with opening in It is analyzed with the same finite element. The results are presented in this paper. Unfortunately, the literature study could not provide with some results to compare, but the results reveal that the output of this research is phlslcally reasonable. And the results of this research are useful not only in practice but also for the future experimental research in comparison purpose.

  • Patch recovery attempts to derive a more accurate stress filed over a particular element than the finite element shape function used for that particular element. Elements that have a free edge being the boundary to the structure have particular stress relationship that can be incorporated to the stress field to improve the accuracy of the approximation.

  • A finite element model is presented for the analysis of composite steel-concrete beams based on a refined high-order theory. The employed theory satisfies all the kinematic and stress continuity conditions at the layer interfaces and considers effects of the transverse normal stress and transverse flexibility. The global displacement components, described by polynomial or combinations of polynomial and exponential expressions, are superposed on local ones chosen based on the layerwise or discrete-layer concepts. The present finite model does not need the incorporating any shear correction factor. Moreover, in the present $C^1$-continuous finite element model, the number of unknowns is independent of the number of layers. The proposed finite element model is validated by comparing the present results with those obtained from the three-dimensional (3D) finite element analysis. In addition to correctly predicting the distribution of all stress components of the composite steel-concrete beams, the proposed finite element model is computationally economic.

  • This article describes the technology for constructing of a multiply-connected three-dimensional area's finite element representation. Representation of finite-element configuration of an area is described by a discrete set that consist of the number of nodes and elements of the finite-element grid, that are orderly set of nodes' coordinates and numbers of finite elements. Corresponding theorems are given, to prove the correctness of the solution method. The adequacy of multiply-connected area topology's finite element model is shown. The merging of subareas is based on the criterion of boundary nodes' coincidence by establishing a simple hierarchy of volumes, surfaces, lines and points. Renumbering nodes is carried out by the frontal method, where nodes located on the outer edges of the structure are used as the initial front.
