This paper presents a method for optimal placement of series condenser in order to improve the power system transient stability using genetic algorithms(GAs). In applying GAs, this approach utilizes two kinds of strings, one is coded by a binary finite-length for the selection of lines to install series condenser, the other is coded by a real value for the determination of injected condenser capacitance. For the formulation. this paper considers multi-objective function which is the critical energy as decelerating energy in power systems and the total injected condenser capacitance. The proposed method is applied to 9-bus, 18-line, 3-machine model system to show its effectiveness in determining the locations to install series condenser and the series condenser capacitance to be injected, simultaneously.

We study the effect of detrending on the coherency between two time series processes. Many economic and financial time series variables include nonstationary components; however, we analyze the two most popular cases of stochastic and deterministic trends. We analyze the asymptotic behavior of coherency under incorrect detrending, which includes the cases of first-differencing the deterministic trend process and, conversely, the time trend removal of the unit root process. A simulation study is performed to investigate the finite sample performance of the sample coherency due to incorrect detrending. Our work is expected to draw attention to the possible distortion of coherency when the series are incorrectly detrended. Further, our results can extend to various specification of trends in aggregate time series variables.
We apply Fourier-Legendre-based integration methods that had been given by Campbell in 2021, to evaluate new rational double hypergeometric sums involving ${\frac{{1}}{\pi}}$. Closed-form evaluations for dilogarithmic expressions are key to our proofs of these results. The single sums obtained from our double series are either inevaluable $_2F_1({\frac{4}{5}})$- or $_2F_1({\frac{1}{2}})$-series, or Ramanujan's 3F2(1)-series for the moments of the complete elliptic integral K. Furthermore, we make use of Ramanujan's finite sum identity for the aforementioned 3F2(1)-family to construct creative new proofs of Landau's asymptotic formula for the Landau constants.
This paper presents analysis of Switched Reluctance Machine (SRM) using Geometry Based Analytical Model (GBAM), Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Fourier Series Model (FSM) with curve fitting technique. Further a Transient Analysis (TA) technique is proposed to corroborate the analysis. The main aim of this paper is to give in depth procedure in developing a Geometry Based Analytical Model of Switched Reluctance Machine which is very accurate and simple. The GBAM is developed for the specifications obtained from the manufacturer and magnetizing characteristic of the material used for the construction. Precise values of the parameters like Magneto Motive Force (MMF), flux linkage, inductance and torque are obtained for various rotor positions taking into account the Fringing Effect (FE). The FEA model is developed using MagNet7.1.1 for the same machine geometry used in GBAM and the results are compared with GBAM. Further another analytical model called Fourier Series Model is developed to justify the accuracy of the results obtained by the methods GBAM and FEA model. A prototype of microcontroller based SRM drive system is constructed for validating the analysis and the results are reported.
A kinetic theory analysis is made of low-speed gas flows in a microfluidic system consisted of three microchannels in series. The Boitzmann equation simplified by a collision model is solved by means of a finite difference approximation with the discrete ordinate method. For the evaluation of the present method results are compared with those from the DSMC method and an analytical solution of the Navier-Stokes equations with slip boundary conditions. Calculations are made for flows at various Knudsen numbers and pressure ratios across the channel. The results compared well with those from the DSMC method. It is shown that the analytical solution of the Navier-Stokes equations with slip boundary conditions which is suited fur fully developed flows can give relatively good results. In predicting the geometrically complex flows up to a Knudsen number of about 0.06. It is also shown that the present method can be used to analyze extremely low-speed flow fields for which the DSMC method is Impractical.
For the spatially coupled free vibration analysis of composite box beams resting on elastic foundation under the axial force, the exact solutions are presented by using the power series method based on the homogeneous form of simultaneous ordinary differential equations. The general vibrational theory for the composite box beam with arbitrary lamination is developed by introducing Vlasov°Øs assumption. Next, the equations of motion and force-displacement relationships are derived from the energy principle and explicit expressions for displacement parameters are presented based on power series expansions of displacement components. Finally, the dynamic stiffness matrix is calculated using force-displacement relationships. In addition, the finite element model based on the classical Hermitian interpolation polynomial is presented. To show the performances of the proposed dynamic stiffness matrix of composite box beam, the numerical solutions are presented and compared with the finite element solutions using the Hermitian beam elements and the results from other researchers. Particularly, the effects of the fiber orientation, the axial force, the elastic foundation, and the boundary condition on the vibrational behavior of composite box beam are investigated parametrically. Also the emphasis is given in showing the phenomenon of vibration mode change.

This study deals with the free vibration of a circular plate in contact with a fluid; submerged in fluid, beneath fluid or on fluid. An analytical method based on the finite Fourier-Bessel series expansion and Rayleigh-Ritz method is suggested. The proposed method is verified by the finite element analysis using commercial program with a good accuracy. The normalized natural frequencies are obtained in order to estimate the relative added mass effect of fluid on each vibration mode of the plate. Also, the location of plate coupled with fluid and the cases of free and bounded fluid surface are studied for the effect on the vibration characteristics.
This study deals with the free vibration of two identical circular plates coupled with a bounded or unbounded fluid. An analytical method based on the finite Fourier-Bessel series expansion and Rayleigh-Ritz method is suggested. The proposed method is verified by the finite element analysis using commercial program with a good accuracy The case of bounded or unbounded fluid is studied for the effect on the vibration characteristics of two circular plates. Also, the effect of gap between the plates on the fluid-coupled natural frequencies is investigated.
An analytical study is presented on the hydroelastic vibration of two rectangular identical plates coupled with a bounded fluid by using the finite Fourier series expansion method. It is observed that the two contrastive modes, the so called the out-of-phase and in-phase modes. All natural frequency of the in-phase modes can be predicted well by the combination of the beam modes in the air, but the natural frequency of the out-of-phase mode cannot be estimated precisely. To eliminate the holding and gluing problems making the direct tensile strength test hard to be applied, a new method of testing specimens prepared using lathe machine to make the dog bone shape is assessed whether it could be applied to determine accurate direct tensile strength values of rock materials. A series of numerical modelling analyses was performed using finite element method to investigate the effect of different specimen and steel holder geometries. In addition to numerical modelling study, a series of direct tensile strength tests was performed on three different groups of rock materials and a rock-like cemented material to compare the results with those obtained from the finite element analyses. A proper physical property of the lathed specimens was suggested and ideal failure of the dog bone shaped specimens was determined according to the results obtained from this study.
