IDENTITIES AND RELATIONS ON THE q-APOSTOL TYPE FROBENIUS-EULER NUMBERS AND POLYNOMIALS

  • The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the q-Apostol type Frobenius-Euler numbers and polynomials. By using generating functions for these numbers and polynomials, we derive some alternative summation formulas including powers of consecutive q-integers. By using infinite series representation for q-Apostol type Frobenius-Euler numbers and polynomials including their interpolation functions, we not only give some identities and relations for these numbers and polynomials, but also define generating functions for new numbers and polynomials. Further we give remarks and observations on generating functions for these new numbers and polynomials. By using these generating functions, we derive recurrence relations and finite sums related to these numbers and polynomials. Moreover, by applying higher-order derivative to these generating functions, we derive some new formulas including the Hurwitz-Lerch zeta function, the Apostol-Bernoulli numbers and the Apostol-Euler numbers. Finally, for an application of the generating functions, we derive a multiplication formula, which is very important property in the theories of normalized polynomials and Dedekind type sums.

High-dimensional change point detection using MOSUM-based sparse projection (MOSUM 성근 프로젝션을 이용한 고차원 시계열의 변화점 추정)

  • This paper proposes the so-called MOSUM-based sparse projection method for change points detection in high-dimensional time series. Our method is inspired by Wang and Samworth (2018), however, our method improves their method in two ways. One is to find change points all at once, so it minimizes sequential error. The other is localized so that more robust to the mean changes offsetting each other. We also propose data-driven threshold selection using block wild bootstrap. A comprehensive simulation study shows that our method performs reasonably well in finite samples. We also illustrate our method to stock prices consisting of S&P 500 index, and found four change points in recent 6 years.

A Study on Grid Dependencies of the Numerical Solutions for Ship Viscous Flows (배주위 점성유동장에 대한 수치해의 격자의존성에 관한 연구)

  • It is very important to understand characteristics of solution due to the variation of computational grid sizes, especially when turbulence model not incorporating wall-function is used. The present paper performs numerical investigation on the grid dependency of numerical solution for three dimensional turbulent flow field around a ship. In the present study a finite volume method with a modified sub-grid scale turbulence model and a numerically constructed non-orthogonal curvilinear coordinate system capable of conforming complex ship geometries are used. Numerical studies are then performed for a mathematical Wigley hull and the Series 60, $C_B=0.8$ hull forms. The results for various grid sizes are compared with each other and with measured data to show grid dependencies of numerical solutions.

  • In the present study, direct quenching of alloyed steel after hot forging was simulated using commercial finite element program, $FORGE^{TM}$. A typical heat treatment of alloyed steels consists of quenching for hard martensite and subsequent tempering for toughness. In the practice, forgings which cool down to room temperature are heated to temperature of austenite regime. As investigated in the present study, direct quenching of hot forged stock would be beneficial in terms of energy saving. This process has already been propose and termed as ausforging or forged hardening. However, it is well known that quenching temperature would be the most critical factor to control heat treated forging properties. And it is very difficult to control quenching temperature when forged stock gets directly quenched after forging. In this study, we have calculated final forging temperature of stock. Also, quenching simulation was conducted using a series of material parameter which were also calculated using JMATpro, a commercial program for physical properties of materials.

  • Consider a series system of two units, named 1 and 2, respectively. Two units are observed at the beginning of discrete time periods t=0,1,2, $cdots$ and classified as being in one of a countable number of states. Let (i, r) be a state of the system at time t, when the state of unit 1 is i and state of unit 2 is r at time t, Under some conditions, the opportunistic replacement policy that minimizes the expected total discounted cost or the average cost of maintenance is shown to be characterized by the control limits $i^{*}(r)$ (a function of r) and $r^{*}(i)$ (a function of i) : (a) in observed state (i, r), the optimal policy for unit 1 is to replace if $i{\ge}i^{*}(r)$ and no action otherwise; (b) in observed state (i, r), the optimal policy for unit 2 is to replace if $r{\ge}r^{*}(i)$ and no action otherwise. In addition, this paper also develops optimal policy in the finite time horizon case, where time horizon is fixed or a finite integer valued r.v. with known pmf.

Design of Smart flap actuators for swept shock wave/turbulent boundary layer interaction control

  • Piezoelectric actuators have long been recognised for use in aerospace structures for control of structural shape. This paper looks at active control of the swept shock wave/turbulent boundary layer interaction using smart flap actuators. The actuators are manufactured by bonding piezoelectric material to an inert substrate to control the bleed/suction rate through a plenum chamber. The cavity provides communication of signals across the shock, allowing rapid thickening of the boundary layer approaching the shock, which splits into a series of weaker shocks forming a lambda shock foot, reducing wave drag. Active control allows optimum control of the interaction, as it would be capable of positioning the control region around the original shock position and unimorph tip deflection, hence mass transfer rates. The actuators are modelled using classical composite material mechanics theory, as well as a finite element-modelling program (ANSYS 5.7).

  • This paper describes an experimental and numerical study on growing ductile crack-tip behaviors. The hybrid experimental and numerical method by means of a computer image processign technique, was applied to the analysis of both base metal and weld metal CT specimens. In the weld metal specimen, the initial crack-tip was placed in front of fusion line, and the crack orientation was perpendicular to it. Finite element analysis of crack growth behaviors in both base and weld matal specimens made of A533B Class 1 steel were also performed to examine the effects of weldment on near crack-tip fields. a series of experimental studies on crack-tip behaviors have clearly shown the qualitative effects of material properties, especially a hardening exponent. The experimental and numerical results have also shown that weldment does not affect displacement and strain fields near a crack-tip while a stress field is influenced by the difference between yield stresses of both base and weld metals.

Magnetic Saturation Effect of the Iron Core in Current Transformers Under Lightning Flow

  • A current transformer (CT) is a type of sensor that consists of a combination of electric and magnetic circuits, and it measures large ac currents. When a large amount of current flows into the primary winding, the alternating magnetic flux in the iron core induces an electromotive force in the secondary winding. The characteristics of a CT are determined by the iron core design because the iron core is saturated above a certain magnetic flux density. In particular, when a large current, such as a current surge, is input into a CT, the iron core becomes saturated and the induced electromotive force in the secondary winding fluctuates severely. Under these conditions, the CT no longer functions as a sensor. In this study, the characteristics of the secondary winding were investigated using the time-difference finite element method when a current surge was provided as an input. The CT was modeled as a two-dimensional analysis object using constraints, and the saturation characteristics of the iron core were evaluated using the Newton-Rhapson method. The results of the calculation were compared with the experimental data. The results of this study will prove useful in the designs of the iron core and the windings of CTs.

Numerical simulation for a passing ship and a moored barge alongside quay

  • A moored barge alongside quay can be influenced by a nearby passing ship and its ship-generated waves. In this study, a time-domain numerical method based on a three-dimensional potential flow solver is developed to investigate the passing ship problem with a moored barge alongside quay. Potential flows around the passing ship and the moored barge alongside a quay is directly solved by using a classical finite element method. Total computational meshes including a passing ship, a moored barge and a quay is updated at each step with an efficient re-mesh algorithm. To validate the developed numerical method, a conventional ship wave problem and a passing ship problem on the open sea has been solved and the solutions are compared with the existing data. Then, a series of numerical computations were carried out to investigate the passing ship effect on a moored barge alongside quay. The characteristics of the passing ship effects are studied with varying the simulation parameters such as passing ship speed, separation distance, wall distances and waves. Focus is made on hydrodynamic forces due to the passing ship effect and its ship waves.

Development on Steel Pipe for Hydroforming by Roll Forming Analysis (롤 성형 해석을 통한 하이드로포밍 전용 강관 개발)

  • In the roll forming process, a sheet or strip of metal is continuously and progressively formed into a desired cross-sectional profile by feeding it through a series of forming roll. Accordingly, it is important to maintain the material properties of the initial sheet and deform uniformly during the roll forming. The roll forming process was estimated in consideration of some factors such as material properties, strip thickness, roll diameter, roll velocity, and the deformation of the material that influence the forming length. The hydroforming technology has been recognized as a new technique in manufacturing industry, especially in automotive industry. The formed pipe in used in hydroforming process is manufactured by the roll forming. The formability during hydroforming is very sensitive to the state of pipes which are made by roll forming. Particularly the amount of hardening during roll forming affects the formability. Therefore, it is necessary to design the optimum roll flower to reduce the local hardening. In this paper, optimum roll flower which has uniform strain distribution through sheet width was obtained by comparing strain distribution in various roll flower. Finite element analysis(FEA) is performed to estimate the strain distribution related to hardening by roll forming. A numerical analysis is carried out by SHAPE-RF.
