  • This study presents a strategy so-called Subspace Search Mechanism (SSM) for reducing the computational time for convergence of population based metaheusristic algorithms. The selected metaheuristic for this study is the Cuckoo Search algorithm (CS) dealing with size optimization of trusses. The complexity of structural optimization problems can be partially due to the presence of high-dimensional design variables. SSM approach aims to reduce dimension of the problem. Design variables are categorized to predefined groups (subspaces). SSM focuses on the multiple use of the metaheuristic at hand for each subspace. Optimizer updates the design variables for each subspace independently. Updating rules require candidate designs evaluation. Each candidate design is the assemblage of responsible set of design variables that define the subspace of interest. SSM is incorporated to the Cuckoo Search algorithm for size optimizing of three small, moderate and large space trusses. Optimization results indicate that SSM enables the CS to work with less number of population (42%), as a result reducing the time of convergence, in exchange for some accuracy (1.5%). It is shown that the loss of accuracy can be lessened with increasing the order of complexity. This suggests its applicability to other algorithms and other complex finite element-based engineering design problems.

  • Smartphone users are 15 billion in all round the world, and Korean smartphone users are estimated at 40million people to 83% of the Korean population. Selfie stick is most popular item among 20, 30's age users. And they use smartphones more than 90%. In survey they express inconvenience of using selfie stick. Inconveniences are as follows. * Heavy * Handle is inconvenient. * Mistiming during taking pictures * the range of shooting is not enough. In this paper the first improvement was that rod strength is slightly stronger. The second we divide a grip into 3 parts. If 3 parts are unfolded, these can use for tripod. We use deflection Interpretation for main Finite Elements Method program.

  • In this paper, a threshold policy is considered for the Markovian queueing system with server vacations. The threshold policy considered in this paper has the following form: "when the number of customers present in the system increases to N, the server is turned on and serves customers until the system becomes empty". In this paper, we show how the finite capacity or finite population queueing system under a threshold policy can be modeled by the stochastic Petri net. The performance evaluation of the model is carried out using the software called "SPNP". Some examples are also presented in which it is shown that how the optimal threshold policies can be obtained under a linear cost structure.

  • Cognitive Radio(CR) is the technology that allocates the frequency by using dynamic spectrum access. We proposed a model to calculate the optimal level of the cognitive radiotelegraph, where secondary users opportunistically share the spectrum with primary users through the spectrum sensing. When secondary user with cognitive radio detects the arrival of a primary user in its current channel, the secondary user moves to the idle channel or be placed in the virtual queue. We assume that the primary users have finite buffers and the population of secondary users is finite. Using a two-dimensional Makov model with preemptive priority queueing, we could derive the blocking and waiting probability as well as the optimal level of cognitive radiotelegraph under a various range of parameter circumstances.

  • Cerebral aneurysm is common lesion among adult population. Current methods for treating the disease have several limitations. Inspired by fern leaves, we have developed a new stent, called leaf stent, which can provide a tailored coverage at the neck of an aneurysm and thus prevent the blood from entering the aneurysm. It alone can be used to treat the cerebral aneurysm and therefore overcomes problems existing in current treating methods. The paper focuses on the numerical simulation of the leaf stents. The mechanical behaviour of the stent in various designs has been investigated using the finite element method. It has been found that certain designs provide adequate radial force and have excellent longitudinal flexibility. The performance of certain leaf stents is comparable and even superior to those of the commercially available cerebral stents such as the Neuroform stent and the Enterprise stent, commonly used for stent assisted coiling, while at the same time, providing sufficient coverage to isolate the aneurysm without using coils.

  • This article is concerned with the intraclass correlation in survey sampling. From a design-based viewpoint the intraclass correlation is generalized to a finite population with unequal sized clusters. Under simple random cluster sampling the intraclass correlation is given in an explicit form, which is a generalization of the usual one. The range of it is found and the design effect is expressed by means of it. An example is given to compare the intraclass correlation with the homogeneity measure numerically, which shows that two measures are not the same except some limited cases.

  • The main purpose of queueing theory is to find the optimal solution for maintaining systems such as service facilities. Analyzing the overfolw process provides an important information for the solution in queueing systems with finite capacity. In this thesis we approximate the expected time until the first overflow in M/G/1/K/N queueing systems. Results will be applied to approximate the expected time until the first reduction of source population system. Simulation results show that our approximation is applicable to real situations.

  • For estimating the mean of a finite population, three classes of estimators using multi-auxiliary information with unknown means using two phase sampling in presence of non-response have been proposed with their properties. Asymptotically optimum estimator(AOE) in each class has been identified along with their mean squared error formulae. An empirical study is also given.

  • This study examines fourth graders engaged in three concrete activities involving sampling from finite populations. The first included a survey of popular foods for school meals. The second had them take samples from a box containing white and black marbles to predict how many white and black marbles were in the box. The final activity required them to predict how many times the Korean letter '가' would appear in a Korean story book. The results show that the participants can experience and notice different ideas related to samples and sampling in different activities. In the first activity, they acknowledged that samples are useful for obtaining the information about populations. A population survey is difficult and is not overly useful. In the second activity, they recognized that samples cannot be identical to their population but that the information from a group of samples is similar to the information of the population. In the last activity, they devised some ideas about random sampling even though the ideas were immature.
