The loading capacity of engineering structures/components reduces after the initiation and propagation of crack eventually leads to the final failure. Hence, it becomes essential to deal with the crack and its effects at the design and simulation stages itself, by detecting the prone area of the fracture. The phase-field (PF) method has been accepted widely in simulating fracture problems in complex geometries. However, most of the PF methods are formulated with second order continuity theoryinvolving C0 continuity. In the present study, PF method based on fourth-order (i.e., higher order) theory, maintaining C1 continuity has been proposed for ductile fracture simulation. The formulation includes fourth-order derivative terms of phase field variable, varying between 0 and 1. Applications of fourth-order PF theory to ductile fracture simulation resulted in novelty in this area. The proposed formulation is numerically solved using a two-dimensional finite element (FE) framework in 3-layered manner system. The solutions thus obtained from the proposed fourth order theory for different benchmark problems portray the improvement in the accuracy of the numerical results and are well matched with experimental results available in the literature. These results are also compared with second-order PF theory and a comparison study demonstrated the robustness of the proposed model in capturing ductile behaviour close to experimental observations.
In this work, a new approach is developed for dynamic analysis of a composite beam with an interply crack, based on finite element solution of partial differential equations with the use of the COMSOL Multiphysics package, allowing for fast and simple change of geometric characteristics of the delaminated area. The use of COMSOL Multiphysics package facilitates automatic mesh generation, which is needed if the problem has to be solved many times with different crack lengths. In the model, a physically impossible interpenetration of the crack faces is prevented by imposing a special constraint, leading to taking account of a force of contact interaction of the crack faces and to nonlinearity of the formulated boundary value problem. The model is based on the first order shear deformation theory, i.e., the longitudinal displacement is assumed to vary linearly through the beam's thickness. The shear deformation and rotary inertia terms are included into the formulation, to achieve better accuracy. Nonlinear partial differential equations of motion with boundary conditions are developed and written in the format acceptable by the COMSOL Multiphysics package. An example problem of a clamped-free beam with a piezoelectric actuator is considered, and its finite element solution is obtained. A noticeable difference of forced vibrations of the delaminated and undelaminated beams due to the contact interaction of the crack's faces is predicted by the developed model.
In this study the finite element method is utilized to predict the deflection and vibration characteristics of rectangular plates made of saturated porous functionally graded materials (PFGM) within the framework of the third order shear deformation plate theory. Material properties of PFGM plate are supposed to vary continuously along the thickness direction according to the power-law form and the porous plate is assumed of the form where pores are saturated with fluid. Various edge conditions of the plate are analyzed. The governing equations of motion are derived through energy method, using calculus of variations while the finite element model is derived based on the constitutive equation of the porous material. According to the numerical results, it is revealed that the proposed modeling and finite element approach can provide accurate deflection and frequency results of the PFGM plates as compared to the previously published results in literature. The detailed mathematical derivations are presented and numerical investigations are performed while the emphasis is placed on investigating the effect of the several parameters such as porosity volume fraction, material distribution profile, mode number and boundary conditions on the natural frequencies and deflection of the PFGM plates in detail. It is explicitly shown that the deflection and vibration behaviour of porous FGM plates are significantly influenced by these effects. Numerical results are presented to serve as benchmarks for future analyses of FGM plates with porosity phases.
A 3-dimensional helical rod finite element is devloped for the dynamic analysis of cylindrical springs. Element matrices are formulated using the Galerkin's method, and an exact static deflection curve is used as a shape function. Because the resultant mass and stiffness matrices of the model are symmetric, effective direct solution method can easily be applied for analysing dynamic behavior of springs. The model is used to analyze the dynamic characteristics of a typical automotive valve spring. The effectiveness of the developed helical rod element is verified by comparing the results of the proposed method with those of a classical theory and experiments. The helical element developed in this study is superior to a straight beam element and a 2-dimensional curved beam element for this problem.

There are about 10 motors for tile actuator of the automation system in an auto-mobile recently. The performance of the motor-case is much related to the noise and the vibration of an auto-mobile Multi-Forming process is so much the better than existing deep-drawing or Multi-step forming by press by less cost, installation and staff. But there isn't the specific and general process design, so we aren't good at competition. So in the first step, I want to study about the core design for the multi-forming process. We can access by the elasto-plastic theory and the finite element method, and we use a commercial package of the Deform-2D and, Deform-3D which is based on three-dimensional elasto-plastic finite element, evaluated propriety oi the package. The evaluation of the package propriety was simulated by simple bending example. It was found the elasto-plastic theory was mostly in agreement with the simulation. We proposed that three type of section for the core and analyzed by finite element method (Deform-2D). We can get the best result with the ellipse type core. Then we apply the result of the preceding analysis to the finite element method (Deform-3D). In 3D-finite element analysis, we can get the result of 8/100mm-roundness. This result can help the improvement of the multi-forming process.

This paper is concerned with formulations of the hierarchical $C^{o}$-plate element on the basis of Reissner-Mindlin plate theory. On reason for the development of the aforementioned element is that it is still difficult to construct elements based on h-version concepts which are accurate and stable against the shear locking effects. An adaptive mesh refinement and selective p-distribution of the polynomial degree using hp-version of the finite element method we proposed to verify the superior convergence and algorithmic efficiency with the help of the clamped L-shaped plate problems.s.
An assumed stress quadrilateral thin/moderately thick plate element HQP4 based on the Mindlin/Reissner plate theory is proposed. The formulation is based on Hellinger-Reissner variational principle. Static and free vibration analyses of plates are carried out. Numerical examples are presented to show that the validity and efficiency of the present element for static and free vibration analysis of plates. Satisfactory accuracy for thin and moderately thick plates is obtained and it is free from shear locking for thin plate analysis.
A new efficient hybrid/mixed thin~moderately thick plate bending element with 6-node (HM6-14) is formulated based on the Reissner-Mindlin plate bending theory. The convergence of this element is proved by error estimate theories and verified by patch test respectively. Numerical studies on such an element as HM6-14 demonstrate that it has remarkable convergence, invariability to geometric distorted mesh situations, to axial rotations, and to node positions, and no "locking" phenomenon in thin plate limit. The present element is suitable to many kinds of shape and thin~moderately thick plate bending problems. Further, in comparison with original hybrid/mixed plate bending element HP4, the present element yields an improvement of solutions. Therefore, it is an efficient element and suitable for the development of adaptive multi-field finite element method (FEM).

In the present paper we discuss the stability and the post-buckling behaviour of thin piezoelastic plates. The first part of the paper is concerned with the modelling of such plates. We discuss the constitutive modelling, starting with the three-dimensional constitutive relations within Voigt's linearized theory of piezoelasticity. Assuming a plane state of stress and a linear distribution of the strains with respect to the thickness of the thin plate, two-dimensional constitutive relations are obtained. The specific form of the linear thickness distribution of the strain is first derived within a fully geometrically nonlinear formulation, for which a Finite Element implementation is introduced. Then, a simplified theory based on the von Karman and Tsien kinematic assumption and the Berger approximation is introduced for simply supported plates with polygonal planform. The governing equations of this theory are solved using a Galerkin procedure and cast into a non-dimensional formulation. In the second part of the paper we discuss the stability and the post-buckling behaviour for single term and multi term solutions of the non-dimensional equations. Finally, numerical results are presented using the Finite Element implementation for the fully geometrically nonlinear theory. The results from the simplified von Karman and Tsien theory are then verified by a comparison with the numerical solutions.
Crystallographic texture evolution during forming processes has a significant effect on the anisotropic flow behavior of crystalline material. In this study, a crystal plasticity finite element method (CPFEM), which incorporates the crystal plasticity constitutive law into a three-dimensional finite element method, was used to investigate texture evolution of a face-centered-cubic material - an aluminum alloy. A rate-dependent polycrystalline theory was fully implemented within an in-house program, CAMPform3D. Each integration point in the element was considered to be a polycrystalline aggregate consisting of a large number of grains, and the deformation of each grain in the aggregate was assumed to be the same as the macroscopic deformation of the aggregate. The texture evolution during three different deformation modes - uniaxial tension, uniaxial compression, and plane strain compression - was investigated in terms of pole figures and compared to experimental data available in the literature.
