관통구를 갖는 판구조물의 강도평가 방법에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Strength Evaluation Method of Plate Structures with Penetration-holes)

  • The purpose of this paper is to verify the structural integrity of a region with numerous penetration-holes in offshore structures such as semi-submersible rig and FPSO. In order to effectively check the yielding and buckling strength of plate members with penetration-holes, a screening analysis program was developed with the FE analysis tool to generate fine meshed model using the theoretical and analysis methods. When a hole is appeared in the plate structure members, the flow of stress is altered such that concentrations of stress form near the hole. Stress concentrations are of concern during both preliminary and detail design and need to be addressed from the perspectives of strength. To configure the geometrical shape, very fine meshed FE analysis is needed as the most accurate method. However, this method is practically impossible to apply for the strength verifications for all perforated plates. In this paper, screening analysis method was introduced to reduce analysis tasks prior to detailed FE analysis. This method is applied to not only the peak stress calculation combined stress concentration factor with nominal stress but also nominal equivalent stress calculation considering cutout effects. The areas investigated by very fine meshed analysis were to be chosen through screening analysis without any reinforcements for penetration-holes. If screening analysis results did not satisfy the acceptance criteria, direct FE analysis method as the 2nd step approach were applied with one of the coarse meshed model considering hole or with the very fine meshed model considering the hole shape and size. In order to effectively perform the local fine meshed analysis, automatic model generating program was developed based on the MSC/PATRAN which is pre-post FE analysis program. Buckling strength was also evaluated by Common Structure Rule (CSR) adopted by IACS as the stress obtained from very fine meshed FE analysis. Due to development of the screening analysis program and automatic FE modeling program, it was able to reduce the design periods and structural analysis costs.

지중 매설관 곡선부의 해석 및 안전성 평가 (Analytical Evaluation on the Structural Safety of Horizontally Curved Parts of Buried Pipe)

  • 본 연구에서는 최근 발생하는 지중 매설관의 파손이 곡선부에 집중되고 있는 현실적인 문제를 통해 지중 매설관의 곡선부에 대해 보다 합리적인 해석 방법을 제시하고, 곡선부를 갖는 지중 매설관의 안전성 평가에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. 실제 시공 및 균열이 발생한 사례를 바탕으로 대상 모델을 선정하고 지중 매설관에 작용 가능한 하중 조합을 고려하였다. 3차원 유한요소해석을 통해 변형량과 응력 그리고 좌굴에 대한 구조해석을 수행하였으며 이를 통해 직선부에 비해 곡선부에 응력이 집중되며 지중 매설관의 안전성을 저해 하고 있음을 볼 수 있었다. 이러한 결과를 통해 곡선부를 갖는 지중매설관의 경우곡선 연결부에 대한 정밀한응력 해석을 통한 안전성 평가가 이루어져야 한다고 판단된다.

Distributed plasticity approach for nonlinear analysis of nuclear power plant equipment: Experimental and numerical studies

  • Numerical modeling for the safety-related equipment used in a nuclear power plant (i.e., cabinet facilities) plays an essential role in seismic risk assessment. A full finite element model is often time-consuming for nonlinear time history analysis due to its computational modeling complexity. Thus, this study aims to generate a simplified model that can capture the nonlinear behavior of the electrical cabinet. Accordingly, the distributed plasticity approach was utilized to examine the stiffness-degradation effect caused by the local buckling of the structure. The inherent dynamic characteristics of the numerical model were validated against the experimental test. The outcomes indicate that the proposed model can adequately represent the significant behavior of the structure, and it is preferred in practice to perform the nonlinear analysis of the cabinet. Further investigations were carried out to evaluate the seismic behavior of the cabinet under the influence of the constitutive law of material models. Three available models in OpenSees (i.e., linear, bilinear, and Giuffre-Menegotto-Pinto (GMP) model) were considered to provide an enhanced understating of the seismic responses of the cabinet. It was found that the material nonlinearity, which is the function of its smoothness, is the most effective parameter for the structural analysis of the cabinet. Also, it showed that implementing nonlinear models reduces the seismic response of the cabinet considerably in comparison with the linear model.

가새와 강골조를 이용한 저층 RC 구조물의 내진보강 (Seismic Retrofit of Reinforced Concrete Structures Using Steel Braces and Moment Frames)

  • 본 연구에서는 가새와 강골조를 이용하여 철근콘크리트 모멘트 골조의 내진성능을 보강하는 방법에 대하여 연구하였다. 해석모델은 중력하중에 대해서만 설계된 3층 3경간의 RC 모멘트 골조 건물이다. 먼저 유한요소해석을 이용하여 RC구조물과 가새 접합부의 응력/변형 분포 상태를 파악하고, 접합부의 응력 집중현상을 방지하기 위하여 철골 모멘트골조를 추가하여 보강설계를 수행하였다. 내진보강을 위한 가새는 일반 철골 가새와 비좌굴 가새의 두가지 종류의 가새를 적용하고, 보강 전후 구조물의 강도 및 연성도를 비선형 정적 및 동적해석을 통해 비교하였다. 해석결과에 따르면 추가되는 철골 모멘트골조와 가새를 동시에 사용할 경우 구조물의 강도 및 연성능력의 증가에 큰 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 추가되는 철골 모멘트골조는 단면이 크지 않을 경우 강도의 증가에 큰 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다.

Stability analysis of steel cable-stayed bridges

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the stability behavior of steel cable-stayed bridges by comparing the buckling loads obtained by means of finite element methods with eigen-solver. In recent days, cable-stayed bridges dramatically attract engineers' attention due to their structural characteristics and aesthetics. They require a number of design parameters and present a high degree of static indetermination, especially for long span bridges. Cable-stayed bridges exhibit several nonlinear behaviors concurrently under normal design loads due to the individual nonlinearity of substructures such as the pylons, stay cables, and bridge deck, and their interactions. The geometric nonlinearities arise mainly from large displacements of cables. Strong axial and lateral forces acting on the bridge deck and pylons cause structural nonlinear behaviors. The interaction is among the substructures. In this paper, a typical three-span steel cable-stayed bridge with a variety of design parameters has been investigated. The numerical results indicate that the design parameters such as the ratio of $L_1/L$ and $I_p/I_b$ are important for the structural behavior, where $L_1$ is the main span length, L is the total span length of the bridge, $I_p$ is the moment of inertia of the pylon, and $I_b$ is the moment of inertia of the bridge deck. When the ratio $I_p/I_b$ increases, the critical load decreases due to the lack of interaction among substructures. Cable arrangements and the height of pylon are another important factors for this type of bridge in buckling analysis. According to numerical results, the bridges supported by a pylon with harp-type cable arrangement have higher critical loads than the bridges supported by a pylon with fan-type cable arrangement. On contrary, the shape of the pylon does not significantly affect the critical load of this type of bridge. All numerical results have been non-dimensionalized and presented in both tabular and graphical forms.

일정 횡압력과 증분 압축하중을 동시에 받는 복합재 쉘의 비선형 해석을 위한 수치기법 연구 (Numerical Method for Nonlinear Analysis of Composite Shells under Constant Lateral Pressure and Incremented In-plane Compression)

  • 본 논문에서는 크기가 일정한 비증분 하중과 크기가 커서 증분이론을 사용해야만 하는 증분하중이 동시에 가해지는 구조물의 비선형 해석을 위한 수정 호길이법을 제시한다. 수정된 호길이법에서는 비선형 계산을 수행할 때 증분하중에 의한 변위와 비증분 하중에 의한 변위를 구분하여 처리하게 된다. 제안된 방법의 타당성은 내압, 외압 및 압축하중을 받는 쉘 구조물의 비선형 거동에 대한 기존 결과와의 비교를 통해 검토하였다. 또한 비증분 하중과 증분하중이 함께 가해지는 대표적인 경우로서, 일정 횡압력과 축방향 증분 압축하중을 동시에 받는 쉘 구조물의 비선형 좌굴거동에 대한 인자연구를 수행하였다.

The U-frame concept to assess the stability of chords of Warren-truss bridges with independent cross-beam decks

  • Analytical methods for assessment of the out-of-plane buckling of unbraced top chords of truss bridges may look obsolete while comparing them to finite element analysis. However they are, usually, superior when rapid assessment is necessary. Analytical methods consider the top chord as a bar on elastic supports provided by bracing (Holt, Timoshenko). Correct assessment of the support elasticity (stiffness) is crucial. In the case of truss bridge spans of traditional structural layout (cross-beams at the truss chord nodes only), the elasticity may be set based on the analysis of the, so called, U-frame stiffness. Here the analyses consider the U-frame itself (a pair of verticals and a cross-beam) or the U-frame with adjacent diagonals or the pair of diagonals (in the absence of verticals) and the members of the bottom chord in the adjacent panels. For all the cases, the stability analysis of the chord as a bar in compression is necessary. Unfortunately, the method cannot be applied to contemporary truss bridges without verticals, that usually have independent cross-beam decks (the cross-beams attached to truss chords at their nodes and between them). This is the motivation for the analysis resulting in the method of setting the stiffness of the equivalent U-frame for the aforementioned truss bridges. Truss girders of both, gussetless and gusseted, joints are taken into account.

조합하중을 받는 선체판부재의 최종강도거동 해석 (Ultimate Strength Behavior Analysis on the Ship's Plate under Combined Load(Lateral Pressure Load and Axial Compressive Load))

  • 선체를 구성하는 판부재는 일반적으로 면내하중과 횡하중의 조합하중이 작용하게 된다 면내하중으로서는 주로 전체적인 선체거더의 휨과 비틀림에 의한 압축하중 및 전단하중이 있다. 횡하중은 수압과 화물압력에 의해서 작용하게 된다. 이러한 하중의 요소들은 항상 동시에 작용하는 것이 아니지만 한 개 이상의 하중이 존재하고 상호작용하게 된다. 그러므로, 좀더 합리적이고 안정적인 선박구조의 설계를 위해서는 이러한 조합하중이 선체판에 작용할 경우에 발생하게 되는 좌굴 및 최종강도거동의 상호관계를 좀더 자세히 분석할 필요가 있다. 실제로 선체판은 슬래밍과 팬팅과 같은 충격하중을 제외하고는 상대적으로 적은 수압이 작용하게 된다. 본 연구논문에서는 조합하중을 받는 선체판부재의 거동에 있어서 최종한계상태설계법에 기반을 둔 탄소성대변형 유한요소해석을 수행하였다. 본 연구에서는 압축하중과 횡하중이 판부재에 작용하였을 경우 횡하중의 크기에 따른 영향을 탄소성대변형 유한요소해석(ANSYS)을 수행하여 분석하였다.

  • Lightweight metallic truss structures with open, periodic cell are currently being investigated because of their multi-functionality such as thermal management and load bearing. The Kagome truss PCM has been proved that it has higher resistance to plastic buckling, more plastic deformation energy and lower anisotropy than other truss PCMs. The subject of this paper is an examination of the failure mechanism of Wire woven Bulk Kagome(WBK). To address this issue, the out-of-plane compressive responses of the WBK has been measured and compared with theoretical and finite element (FE) predictions. For the experiment, 2 multi-layered WBK are fabricated and 3 specimens are prepared. For the theoretical analysis, the brazed joints of each wire in WBK are modeled as the pin-joint. Then, the peak stress of compressive behavior and elastic modulus are calculated based on the equilibrium equation and energy method. The mechanical structure with five by five cells on the plane are constructed is modeled using the commercial code, PATRAN 2005. and the analysis is achieved by the commercial FE code ABAQUS version 6.5 under the incremental theory of plasticity.

해양플랜트용 라티스 붐 크레인의 최적 설계에 관한 연구 (A Study on the optimal design of lattice boom crane for offshore plant)

  • In manufacturing An offshore plant is a structure that produces resources buried in the seabed. It can be classified into fixed, floating, and hybrid methods depending on the installation method. In particular, the Lattice boom type crane is typically used because it is used for a long time in the sea and moves to other seas, which is less affected by wind. In this study, the crane was designed by using three-step optimization design in the early stage of the design of Lattice boom crane for offshore plant. Finite element analysis was performed to verify the safety factor, deflection, buckling coefficient and fatigue life of the designed crane and the results were verified.
