黃砂現象이 우리나라에 미치는 影響 (Yellow Sand Phenomena Influence to the Atmosphere in Korea)

  • Particle size distribution of airborne suspended particulate concentrations according to particle size in the events of yellow sand phenomena, have been measured and analyzed by using Andersen air sampler for four years, January 1982 through December 1985. The conclusions are as follows: 1. Yellow sand phenomena, generally, occur between March and May. 2. The frequent occurrences of yellow sand were observed during March and April and airborne suspended particulate concentrations in the cases of yellow sand appeared to be 2 $\sim$ 3.4 times higher than those of normal conditions. 3. Geometric mean particle diameter and its geometric mean standard deviation by logarithmic normal distribution sheet, were quite close to each other and log-distribution curves showed similar shapes. 4. Analysis by particle size distribution curve showed bi-modal distribution. 5. Concentrations of coarse particles in normal conditions were 1.2 $\sim$ 2 times higher than those of fine particles and, similarly, coarse particle concentrations in yellow sand cases were 1.3 $\sim$ 2.5 times higher than those of fine particles. 6. Concentrations of coarse particles in yellow sand cases were 2 $\sim$ 3.6 times higher than those in normal conditions and those of fine particles were 1.7 $\sim$ 3.5 times higher.

고상법에 의한 100 nm BaTiO3 분말의 합성 (Synthesis of 100 nm BaTiO3 by Solid-state Reaction)

  • $BaTiO_3$ powder was synthesized by the solid-state reaction of fine $BaTiO_3$ and $TiO_2$ raw materials. Fine grinding media of 50 and 300 microns were used for obtaining fine particulate mixture of $BaTiO_3$ and $TiO_2$ with high homogeneity. Effect of the size of grinding media on the synthesis mechanism of $BaTiO_3$ was discussed on the basis of the particulate morphology and thermogravimetry data for the mixture powders. By using the finer grinding media, $BaTiO_3$ was formed at the lower temperature and the particle size with the relatively narrower distribution could be obtained. $BaTiO_3$ powder with the average size of 100 nm was synthesized by the solid reaction in vacuum atmosphere.

Vehicle-related Fine Particulate Air Pollution in Seoul, Korea

  • Vehicle exhaust is a dominant source of air pollutants in urban areas. Since people are easily exposed to vehicle exhaust particles while driving a car and/or traveling via public transportation, air pollution near traffic has been extensively studied in developed countries. In this paper, investigations on vehicle-related fine particulate air pollution at roadsides and on roads in Seoul, Korea were reviewed to understand air pollution near traffic. Comparison of $PM_{10}$ concentrations in Seoul showed that roadside air is more contaminated than urban air, implying that exposure levels near vehicular emissions are more critical to sensitive persons. Concentrations of ultrafine particles and BC (black carbon) at roadsides of Seoul fluctuate highly for short durations, responding to traffic situations. Diurnal variations of ultrafine particles and BC concentrations at roadsides seem to be affected by traffic volume, mixing layer height, and wind speed. Concentrations of ultrafine particles and BC decrease as distance from the road increases due to dilution during transport. On-road air pollution seems to be more severe than roadside air pollution in Seoul. Since nearby traffic air pollution has not been well understood in Seoul, further studies including various vehicular air pollutants and representative locations are needed.

Comparison of Mutagenic Activities of Various Ultra-Fine Particles

  • Air pollution is increasing, along with consumption of fossil fuels such as coal and diesel gas. Air pollutants are known to be a major cause of respiratory-related illness and death, however, there are few reports on the genotoxic characterization of diverse air pollutants in Korea. In this study, we investigated the mutagenic activity of various particles such as diesel exhaust particles (DEP), combustion of rice straw (RSC), pine stem (PSC), and coal (CC), tunnel dust (TD), and road side dust (RD). Ultra-fine particles (UFPs) were collected by the glass fiber filter pad. Then, we performed a chemical analysis to see each of the component features of each particulate matter. The mutagenicity of various UFPs was determined by the Ames test with four Salmonella typhimurium strains with or without metabolic activation. The optimal concentrations of UFPs were selected based on result of a concentration decision test. Moreover, in order to compare relative mutagenicity among UFPs, we selected and tested DEP as mutation reference. DEP, RSC, and PSC induced concentration-dependent increases in revertant colony numbers with TA98, TA100, and TA1537 strains in the absence and presence of metabolic activation. DEP showed the highest specific activity among the particulate matters. In this study, we conclude that DEP, RSC, PSC, and TD displayed varying degrees of mutagenicity, and these results suggest that the mutagenicity of these air pollutants is associated with the presence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in these particulate matters.

딥러닝 알고리즘 기반의 초미세먼지(PM2.5) 예측 성능 비교 분석 (Comparison and analysis of prediction performance of fine particulate matter(PM2.5) based on deep learning algorithm)

  • 본 연구는 딥러닝(Deep Learning) 알고리즘 GAN 모델을 기반으로 초미세먼지(PM2.5) 인공지능 예측시스템을 개발한다. 실험 데이터는 시계열 축으로 생성된 온도, 습도, 풍속, 기압의 기상변화와 SO2, CO, O3, NO2, PM10와 같은 대기오염물질 농도와 밀접한 관련이 있다. 데이터 특성상, 현재시간 농도가 이전시간 농도에 영향을 받기 때문에 반복지도학습(Recursive Supervised Learning) 예측 모델을 적용하였다. 기존 모델인 CNN, LSTM의 정확도(Accuracy)를 비교분석을 위해 관측값(Observation Value)과 예측값(Prediction Value)간의 차이를 분석하고 시각화했다. 성능분석 결과 제안하는 GAN이 LSTM 대비 평가항목 RMSE, MAPE, IOA에서 각각 15.8%, 10.9%, 5.5%로 향상된 것을 확인하였다.

지하역사내 식생바이오필터의 입자상 오염물질 저감특성 연구 (Study on Particulate Pollutant Reduction Characteristics of Vegetation Biofilters in Underground Subway Stations)

  • Public attention to the indoor environment of underground subway stations, which is a representative multi-use facility, has been increasing along with the increase in indoor activities. In underground stations, fine iron oxide, which affects the health of users, is generated because of the friction between wheels and rails. Among particulate pollutant reduction technologies, plants have been considered as a non-chemical air purification method, and their effects in reducing certain chemical species have been identified in previous studies. The present study aimed to derive the total quantitative and qualitative reduction effects of a bio-filter system comprising air purifying plants, installed in an underground subway station. The experiment proceeded in two ways. First, PM(particulate matter) reduction effect by vegetation biofilter was monitored with the IAQ(indoor air quality) station. In addition, chemical speciation analysis conducted on the samples collected from the experimental and control areas where plants and irrigation using SEM-EDS(scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy). This study confirmed the effect of the vegetation bio-filter system in reducing the accumulation of particulate pollutants and transition and other metals that are harmful to the human body.

지하철 미세먼지에 의하여 유발되는 피부염증에 대한 달맞이꽃 뿌리 추출물의 완화 효과 (Relaxing Effect of Evening Primrose Root on Skin Irritation Caused by Particulate Matter in Subway Tunnel)

  • 인간의 피부가 지하철 터널과 같은 외부환경에서 고농도의 입자 먼지(PM2.5, PM10)에 장시간 노출되면 피부에 나쁜 영향을 받게 된다. 특히, 미세입자 먼지는 피부를 손상시켜 염증과 알러지 반응을 일으킨다. 본 연구에서는 달맞이꽃뿌리 추출물이 피부에 미세입자 먼지가 반응하여 피부손상을 유발할 때 피부염증 저해능력을 조사하였다. 입자형태의 먼지는 지하철에서 하루에 가장 높은 농도로 존재할 때 수집하였다. 달맞이꽃뿌리 추출물은 대조군에 비하여 강한 항산화능을 보였다 (62.6%). 미세입자 형태와 달맞이꽃뿌리 추출물의 혼합물은 일산화질소 생성을 억제하여 달맞이꽃뿌리 추출물이 미세입자 먼지에 의하여 유발되는 피부염증을 완화하는 효과가 확인되었다. 달맞이꽃뿌리 추출물은 세포독성이 대조군에 비하여 낮았다. 입자형태의 먼지(PM10)를 세포에 노출시켰을 때 달맞이꽃뿌리 추출물의 농도를 증가시킬수록(5, 10, 20 ㎍/mL) 활성산소 수준이 감소함과 동시에 양성 대조군에 비하여 더욱 효과적이었다. 따라서 본 연구결과는 달맞이꽃뿌리 추출물이 미세입자 형태의 먼지에 의하여 유발되는 피부 손상을 완화시킬 수 있는 효능을 제공하여 피부용 화장품 소재로 활용이 가능함을 입증하였다.

W-Station을 활용한 고밀도 초미세먼지 모니터링 연구: 제주도 사례 (A study on the monitoring of high-density fine particulate matters using W-station: Case of Jeju island)

  • Although interest in air quality has increased due to the frequent occurrence of high-concentration fine particulate matter recently, the official fine particulate matter measuring network has failed to provide spatial detailed air quality information. This is because current measurement equipment has a high cost of installation and maintenance, which limits the composition of the measuring network at high resolution. To compensate for the limitations of the current official measuring network, this study constructed a spatial high density measuring network using the fine particulate matter simple measuring device developed by Observer, W-Station. W-Station installed 48 units on Jeju Island and measured PM2.5 for six months. The data collected in W-Station were corrected by applying the first regression equation for each section, and these measurements were compared and analyzed based on the official measurements installed in Jeju Island. As a result, the time series of PM2.5 concentrations measured in W-Station showed concentration characteristics similar to those of the environmental pollution measuring network. In particular, the results of comparing the measurements of W-Station within a 2 km radius of the reference station and the reference station showed that the coefficient of determination (R2) was 0.79, 0.81, 0.67, respectively. In addition, for W-Station within a 1 km radius, the coefficient of determination was 0.85, 0.82, 0.68, respectively, showing slightly higher correlation. In addition, the local concentration deviation of some regions could be confirmed through 48 high density measuring networks. These results show that if a network of measurements is constructed with adequate spatial distribution using a number of simple meters with a certain degree of proven performance, the measurements are effective in monitoring local air quality and can be fully utilized to supplement or replace formal measurements.

배경지역 대기경계층 미세먼지의 화학조성 특성: 2012년 가을 측정 (Chemical Composition Characteristics of Fine Particulate Matter at Atmospheric Boundary Layer of Background Area in Fall, 2012)

  • 국내 배경지역인 제주도 한라산 1100 고지에서 2012년 가을철에 $PM_{10}$, $PM_{2.5}$ 미세먼지를 채취하여 이온 및 원소 성분을 분석한 결과로부터 대기경계층(ABL) 미세먼지의 화학조성과 입자크기별 분포 특성을 조사하였다. $PM_{2.5}$ 미세입자($d_p$ < $2.5{\mu}m$)에서는 2차 오염물질인 nss-$SO{_4}^{2-}$, $NH_4{^+}$, $NO_3{^-}$ 농도가 각각 4.84, 1.98, $1.27{\mu}g/m^3$로 상대적으로 높고, 전체 질량의 58.2%를 차지하였다. 반면에 $PM_{10-2.5}$ 조대입자($2.5{\mu}m$ < $d_p$ < $10{\mu}m$)에서는 이들 세 성분의 농도가 각각 0.63, 0.21, $1.10{\mu}g/m^3$로 전체 질량의 22.8%를 차지하였다. 또 수용성 이온성분들 중 $NH_4{^+}$, nss-$SO{_4}^{2-}$, $K^+$, $CH_3COO^-$은 주로 미세입자에 분포하고, $NO_3{^-}$은 미세입자와 조대입자에 고르게 분포하나, $Na^+$, $Cl^-$, $Mg^{2+}$, nss-$Ca^{2+}$은 조대입자에 더 많이 분포하는 특징을 나타내었다.

黃砂現象時 粉塵의 粒度分布와 化學組成에 關한 硏究 (A Study on the Size Distribution and Chemical Component of Suspended Particulate during the Period of Sandy Dust Phenomena)

  • Sandy dust phenomena was observed from April 19 to 23, 1988 in Seoul and suspended particulate was collected by Andersen air sampler during this period. The samples were analyzed for 16 components $(SO_n^{2-}, NO_3^-, Cl^-, PO_4^{3-}, NH_4^+, F^-, Al, Fe, K, Cu, Mn, Na, Pb, Mg, Ca, Cd)$. The conclusions are as follwes: 1. Total suspended particulate concentation during the period of sandy dust phenomena was 489 $\mug/m^3$ (ordinary times: 140-125 $mug/m^3$) 2. The water - soluble ion component concentration of suspended particulate during the period of sandy dust phenomena was few and the metal concentration of that was more than that of ordinary times. 3. The cumulative frequency distribution of suspended particulates in logarithmic diagram did not show similar to normal log distribution during the period of sandy dust phenomena. 4. $SO_4^{2-}, NO_3^-, Cl^-, and PO_4^{3-}$ was onsided to coarse particle, and $NH_4^+$ and F to fine particle in the size distribution of water - soluble ion components during the period of sandy dust phenomena. 5. Metal concentration was high and Al, Fe, Cu, Mn, Na, Mg, and Ca was onsided to coarse particle, and K, Pb, and Cd to fine particle in the size distribution of metal components. 6. During the period of sandy dust phenomena the quantity of respirable particle (< 1 $\mum$) was about 3 times and that of metal components were about 2 - 11 times than that of ordinary times. 7. The concentrations of $NO_3^-, Cl^-, NH_4^+$ at ordinary times were 1.1 - 4 time than that of the period of sandy dust phenomena.
