  • A global binding agreement was adopted with the leading of United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) on May 22, 2001 in Stockholm to regulate the production and distribution on persistent organic pollutants (POPs). The agreement took effectuation with the ratification of 59 countries from the approval of 151 countries on May 17, 2004. After the approval on October 4, 2001, South Korea performed systematical investigation on POP-related substances such as chlordane, dichloro diphenyl trichloroethane (DDT), hexachlorobenzenes (HCB), heptachlor, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) to get ready for the ratification of the convention with country-specific exemption. The domestic distributions of those chemical substances have been officially prohibited since the late 1960s to the early 1980s. Although there were occasional reports for the detection of some of those chemical substances, those performed minute signification in their existence in the environment. A series of investigation with documentary examination and fact-finding survey showed the possibility for the ratification on the convention without country-specific exemption.

  • This paper aims to find the differences between the trading company of Korea and Japan, by analyzing the development history of Corporate Governance and Internal Control System in Korea and Japan. And this paper studies about that on the legal site. A corporate governance has the tremendous influence on the value of the company, and a company's system of internal control has a key role in the management of risks that are significant to the fulfillment of its business objectives. On the other hand, many companies in the every industry have suffered several times from fatal loss or damage resulted from miss or malfeasance late in the 20th century. And the result of that, starting the Sarbanese-Oxley Act in America, a government established the financial laws and corporate laws in the a lot of countries including Korea and Japan. Japanese trading companies tend to be taking a serious view of internal control more than corporate governance against Korean trading companies. But this not means that Japanese are superior to Korean. The most important thing is the fact that Korean trading companies have to spend enough time finding suitable system of corporate governance and internal control as Japanese trading companies did.

  • This study utilizes the fine-tuning and small-digit characteristics of the successive zooming genetic algorithm (SZGA) to propose a method of structural damage detection in a continuum structure, where the differences in the natural frequencies of a structure obtained by experiment and FEM are compared and minimized using an assumed location and extent of structural damage. The final methodology applied to the structural damage detection is a kind of pseudo-discrete-variable-algorithm that counts the soundness variables as one (perfectly sound) if they are above a certain standard, such as 0.99. This methodology is based on the fact that most well-designed structures exhibit failures at some critical point due to manufacturing error, while the remaining region is free of damage. Thus, damage of 1% (depending on the given standard) or less can be neglected, and the search concentrated on finding more serious failures. It is shown that the proposed method can find out the exact structural damage of the monitored structure and reduce the time and amount of computation.

  • The study is intended to analyze the tendency of the remodeling for the middle schools in Gyeonggi Province, with the potential challenges thereof, thereby determining the principle for the remodeling projects in the days to come. To that end, the analysis to identify the school facilities in a bid to accommodate the current curriculum was conducted, along with the case study on remodeling projects. The $7^{th}$ curriculum demands for a significant change in school facilities. The number of student in a class that has been on the decline, despite of steady increase in number of schools, and the population getting concentrated in Seoul and its suburbs have resulted in an increase in number of class. Consequently, more investment in the facility, rather than improving a substantial education environment, has been made. The study, thus, is aimed at identifying the facility of the middle school required by the $7^{th}$ curriculum, as well as implementing a fact-finding investigation into the remodeling works for middle schools in Gyeonggi Province so as to come up with the guideline for remodeling projects.

  • In order to understand the physical condition and spatial deformation of houses in rural areas in Hodang Village, Ipjang-myeon, Cheonan-si, a rural area with a good settlement environment, physical characteristics and spatial deformation were identified. First, looking at the construction pattern of houses in rural areas, there have been many houses built since the 1990s, and the modernized spatial composition of urban houses appeared. Second, due to the nature of rural housing, work space and residential space are mixed, and it was analyzed that space is used through renovation to solve this problem. Third, Hodang Village was analyzed as an area with good living services, but as a result of the village survey, the proportion of vacant houses was high at 14 (42.4%). This study is conducting continuous rural housing research, rather than a temporary study on rural housing and vacant houses, based on the problems that have been drawn from previous research and existing fact-finding studies.

  • Previous studies have demonstrated that Shewanella decolorationis S12 can grow on the azo compound amaranth as the sole electron acceptor. Thus, to explore the mechanism of energy generation in this metabolism, membranous vesicles (MVs) were prepared and the mechanism of energy generation was investigated. The membrane, which was fragmentized during preparation, automatically formed vesicles ranging from 37.5-112.5 nm in diameter under electron micrograph observation. Energy was conserved when coupling the azoreduction by the MVs of an azo compound or Fe(III) as the sole electron acceptor with $H_2$, formate, or lactate as the electron donor. The amaranth reduction by the vesicles was found to be inhibited by specific respiratory inhibitors, including $Cu^{2+}$ ions, dicumarol, stigmatellin, and metyrapone, indicating that the azoreduction was indeed a respiration reaction. This finding was further confirmed by the fact that the ATP synthesis was repressed by the ATPase inhibitor N,N'-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCCD). Therefore, this study offers solid evidence of a mechanism of microbial dissimilatory azoreduction on a subcell level.

  • For analyzing the characteristics of arc welding processes, an algorithm is necessary to determine the metal transfer mode, arc stability and weld quality. In this study, the weight of spatter during welding was selected for determining the arc stability, which is very relevant to the occurrence of spatter. Weld spatter occurs mainly at the moment when the short circuit is formed and also when it is broken causing the arc to restrike. Based on this fact, the arc stability can be determined by finding the suitable parameters of welding current and arc voltage which influence the weight of spatter. Through various welding experiments, the peak current, the arcing time, the short circuit time, the current and its slope at the start of short circuit were found mainly to influence the weight of spatter. For the convenient usage, an index was proposed by combining all these parameters. It was found that the index is very effective for determining the arc stability.

  • Considering how an organization is timely competitive for survival in the rapidly changing environment of today, it is more important to get new information and knowledge continuously by teams. However team system provides organization with opportunities and, at the same time, is provoked into conflict by the diversity of team members. This study examines the effect of team diversity on knowledge creation and investigates the influence of absorptive capacity and conflict as mediators. The sample population consisted of officials who work in teams at two business corporations that have successfully achieved knowledge creation. The result presents team diversity serves as an effective factor for absorptive capacity and absorptive capacity also serves as an effective factor for knowledge creation. In contrast, team diversity brings team members into conflict and conflict has a negative effect on knowledge creation. Another significant finding of this research is the fact that a positive effect of absorptive capacity on knowledge creation is greater than a negative effect of conflict on it. It clearly demonstrates that team diversity can be an important determinant of knowledge creation if an organization tries to reduce team member's conflict.
