  • This study aimed to determine a tourist family's perceptions of dining at a holiday destination. A key assumption of this study was that dining at an unfamiliar locale at a tourist resort is engaging in risk-taking behavior by the tourist family. In this unfamiliar setting, participation in the local food market takes on a significant role in the tourist family's sense of satisfaction and loyalty. For the purpose of this study, involvement pertains to the family's perceived relevance of the objective of this study based on inherent needs, values, and interests. For this study, 151 subjects vacationing with his/her family on Jeju Island participated. To perform research on perceived risk and involvement in terms of the decision maker's capacity, only one member of each family responded to the survey, which examined the impact on sense of satisfaction of perceived risk and involvement in the local food scene. Perceived risks were divided according to financial, performance, physical, social-psychological, and time-risk factors. Perceived risk and involvement were found to be significant predictors of the overall satisfaction of the tourist family's local food consumption. Furthermore, performance risk was determined to be significantly linked to the tourist family's dining sense of satisfaction and loyalty. These findings provide some meaningful marketing implications for Jeju Island's tourism industry. Reducing the performance risk and increasing the local food involvement may activate rural tourism and local food consumption. Theoretical and practical contributions to local food marketing are discussed.

  • Due to stagnation of domestic market, increasing number of domestic construction companies started to make inroads into foreign market recently. Yet compared to domestic market, there are much more risks in the foreign market which companies may confront. So deliberate and rational decision making skills are required. Accordingly, there has been many researches which analyzed the risk of individual markets and also studies covering decision support models. In this study, we suggest a model concerning financial issues when branching out into a new market, specially in the construction companies' point of view. For this we used a real options game which shows real competition status of a new market and deduced a feature of that market, Upon these results, we also suggest a model which helps firms to decide whether investing in the expansion is smart action or not. The model developed in this study is made in specific circumstances of limited conditions. The future study makes more realistic models considering subjects like disproportion in information and generalization of competing companies.

  • The competition among companies in converged market of broadcasting and telecommunications has become severe. Companies in this market have vertically integrated critical resources by acquiring or strategically allying with relevant companies. However, the expansion of business territory accompanies financial, organizational, and technological risks. As such, it is important to identify critical success factors that highly affect the company's competency. This study is aimed at delivering strategic implications for firms playing in the converged market of broadcasting and telecommunications by drawing the priorities of competitive resources to acquire. To do this, we selected four teen specific core resources on CPNT (content- platform - network - terminal) value chain. Then, we conducted an Analytic Hierarchical Process (AHP) using data from experts in this industry. As a result, the priority for acquisition of competitive resources is presented as follows: broadcasting programs, implementation of TV application store, multi-platform, investment on wireless network, and diffusion of mobile devices. In addition, the result shows that the platform-centric vertical integration is the most promising strategy for competition.

  • The more people and urban infrastructures are crowded in a society, the more possibilities of disasters are existed. Most of cities have a difficulty in coping with unpredictable disasters consisting of natural and human characteristics. As a proved before, theses disasters have serious effects on socio-economical, financial and physical damages, and human lives. Although we have prepared various types of disaster-protection programs, there are rooms to be desired in establishing advanced warning system towards safeguards of disasters. In this research, we propose semantic ideas of an advanced information system associated with automatic voicing mail linking to telephone. This conceptual model and its architecture is for not only predicting and analyzing disasters, but also recommending counter-measurements and solutions for risks and dangers in disastrous circumstances. However, there are little works with regard to definitions and conceptual models of automatic voicing mail system in the context of geographical information sciences. Therefore, this research focuses on scrutinizing the effect of possible natural vulnerability and human hazards in our present societies.

  • Although the IoT is showing explosive growth due to the development of technology and the spread of IoT devices and activation of services, serious security risks and financial damage are occurring due to the activities of various botnets. Therefore, it is important to accurately and quickly detect the activities of these botnets. As security in the IoT environment has characteristics that require operation with minimum processing performance and memory, in this paper, the minimum characteristics for detection are selected, and KNN (K-Nearest Neighbor), Naïve Bayes, Decision Tree, Random A comparative study was conducted on the performance of machine learning algorithms such as Forest to detect botnet activity. Experimental results using the Bot-IoT dataset showed that KNN can detect DDoS, DoS, and Reconnaissance attacks most effectively and efficiently among the applied machine learning algorithms.

  • As the urban development economy is stagnating due to the reduction of the budget for Social Overhead Capital (SOC) and the stabilization policy of the real estate market, there is a steady increase in the interest of domestic construction companies to enter the overseas market. However, domestic construction companies are showing a decline in overseas urban development market as compared with advanced foreign companies having excellent financial management and overseas project management ability. Therefore, it is necessary for domestic companies to select an urban development model that meets the environment and the level of the country of entry, and to establish an advance strategy to manage the risks of overseas business. For this purpose, the factors of entry into the overseas urban development market through the existing research, literature analysis, and FGI were derived, and survey strategy and IPA analysis were conducted to develop strategies for entering the overseas urban development market. As a result, we have established a strategy for private companies to enter the overseas urban development market.

  • This study developed selection criteria of small-scales reservoirs, having under $300,000m^3$ storage capacity, for the Emergency Action Plan(EAP) establishment in order to reduce the disaster risks of the reservoir's failures. Those reservoirs are out of ranges of Korean EAP establishment standard, but have potential risk of disasters as they have often failed by the recent extreme rainfall events and earthquakes, causing economical and life losses. The problem of reservoir aging is also one of the reasons of them. In this study, the developed selection criteria of small reservoirs for EAP establishment are storage capacity, embankment height, reservoir age, heavy rain factor and earthquake factor. These criteria were selected based on the review of the existing EAP establishment guidelines, analysis of the past dam failure cases, and the previous related studies. The quantification of these criteria were conducted for the practical applications in the fields, and applied to 67 previous failures in order to investigate the relation of each criteria with these failures. The earthquake factor found to be the highest relations followed by heavy rain factors, combination of earthquake and heavy rain factors, and reservoir age. The classification was made as observation and review groups for EAP establishments based on overlapping numbers of each criteria. This classifications applied to 354 reservoirs designated as having the potential disaster risk by MOIS, and showed 38.4% of observation and 11.9% of review groups. Anticipatory monitoring and regular inspection should be made by professional facility managers for the observation group, and necessity of EAP establishment should be assessed for the review group based on the downstream status and financial budget.

  • In recent years, ESG investment is increasing worldwide, and awareness of ESG risks such as environment, society, and governance is increasing, and non-financial investments are considered when making investment decisions. With the recent Corvid 19 crisis, the focus is on the environment, and investments related to bio and health are gaining popularity, while new investments are completely suspended in coal-related businesses, and decisions are made in the direction of sequential termination or withdrawal of existing businesses This has resulted in an increasing number of managers setting climate change and sustainability as top priorities in their investment portfolios. As a result, it is necessary to present effective countermeasures to changes in the investment environment, and to make efforts to respond and prepare an investment system that can help build a risk management system. Therefore, I would like to briefly review the ESG investment trends and present implications considering shared growth and mutual benefit.

  • Objectives: Economic hardship has a serious impact on adolescents' mental health. The financial impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic was more severe for low-income families, and this also impacted adolescents. This study aimed to examine the associations of economic deterioration (ED) caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and low socioeconomic status (SES) with adolescents' suicidal behaviors. Methods: This study analyzed data from the 2020 Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey, which included 54 948 middle and high school students. Odds ratios (ORs) of suicidal ideation, suicidal planning, and suicide attempts related to ED and SES were calculated using multivariable logistic regression. We calculated relative excess risks due to interaction to assess additive interactions. Results: The ORs for suicidal ideation, suicidal planning, and suicide attempts related to combined severe ED and low SES were 3.64 (95% confidence interval [CI], 3.13 to 4.23), 3.88 (95% CI, 3.09 to 4.88), and 4.27 (95% CI, 3.21 to 5.69), respectively. Conclusions: ED and low SES were significantly associated with suicidal behaviors in adolescents. Although no significant additive interaction was found, the ORs related to suicidal ideation, suicidal planning, and suicide attempts were highest among adolescents from low-income families with severe ED. Special attention is needed for this group, considering the increased impact of economic inequality due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
