대학생을 위한 재무관리교육 프로그램 개발 및 평가 (Development and Evaluation of Financial Management Education Program for College Students)

  • The purpose of this study were to develop a financial management educational program for college students and to evaluate the effect of this program. In order to achieve this aims, a fundamental work to select the educational contents was preceded with a survey of learners' needs, preceding studies. After choice of educational contents, learners' demands on how to manage the educational program was executed in advance. The participants in this study were 500 students, resulting in 460 with usable data. Second, reflection the above mentioned educational contents, a concrete financial management educational program was built. This program consists of 9 domains: financial planning, careers and income, consumer spending, credit use and Credit cards, Managing Taxes, investment planning, risk management and insurance, retirement and estate planning, contribution. The participants for this program implementation were 68 students. Third, to evaluate the effects of the financial management educational program, paired t-test was conducted in using the SPSS package. The result suggested that financial management educational program has a positive effect on financial knowledge, financial attitude and financial management behavior. Several implications based on the findings were suggested.

민간소비자단체의 소비자교육 현황과 발전 방안 (The Present and Future Development of Consumer Education by Private Consumer Organization)

  • This study is to examine the present and future development of the adult consumer education by private consumer organization. For this purpose the data of consumer education practiced during 1996, 1997 were gathered from 33 consumer organizations. From the survey we can find that the financial and human resources of consumer organization are too limited and the selection of education theme were made nonsystematically. Based on these results and literature survey the contents and strategies were suggested for the adult education of private consumer organizations.

Financial Check-up: What Determines the Boomers' Financial Well-Being?

  • The purpose of the study was to examine the determinants of financial well-being of the baby boomers. With data on 1,789 households from the 1998 Survey of Consumer Finances, the study provided a profile of baby boomers using demands, resources, financial attitudes, and financial practices. The descriptive statistics showed that 18% of the baby boomers were financially well off showing that they met the guidelines for two financial ratios: liquidity and solvency ratio. The results of logistic analysis on the measures of financial well-being revealed that financial management practices played an important role in predicting boomer's financial well-being. This suggested a positive approach of financial education to the baby boomers to help them manage their current finance well as well as prepare for their retirement.

가계부 기록이 가계의 재무건전성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Keeping Financial Records on Financial Soundness of Households)

  • The Purpose of this study is to find the levels of keeping financial records among Korean households and to reveal the effect of keeping financial records on financial soundness of households. The 2014 Consumer Empowerment Index of the Korean consumer agency, which includes the surveyed results of 1,000 individuals, was analyzed as a secondary dataset. As a result, the following findings emerged during the study. First, 25.9% of consumers replied that they were keeping financial records. Factors associated with keeping financial records were gender and income. Women were more likely to keep financial records than men. Also, income had significant effects on keeping financial records. Second, levels of meeting percentages of financial ratios were highest in the debt to income ratio, which was 81.5%, and lowest in the investment ratio, which was 14.5%. Furthermore, 52.6% met the savings ratio, 40.6% met the emergency funds ratio, 24.6% met the retirement savings ratio. Meeting a percentage of the savings ratio did not fluctuated for 16 years, although the debt to income ratio has decreased around 15% since 1998. Third, keeping a household account book had signigicant influences on meeting percentages of financial ratios. Magnitudes of effects ranged between 1.4-1.8 odds, which were as much as the income effects. In summary, effects of keeping financial records were evidenced in this study. It is suggested that the importance of keeping financial records should be stressed in financial education and counseling programs.

Consumer Dissatisfaction Regarding Imported Famous Brand Goods - focused on age 20 - 30 female consumers -

  • This study provides references to reduce consumer dissatisfaction by identifying the level of consumer dissatisfaction after the purchase and use of imported famous brand goods. In addition, it was aimed to provide basic materials for consumer education programs that will induce the rational consumption of imported famous brand goods. The survey was conducted on females in their 20s and 30s. A total of 483 questionnaires were used for the analysis. The results were as follows:(1) Consumer dissatisfaction with the purchase and use of imported famous brand goods showed a slightly higher level than the median and, (2) consumers had a lower level of consumer dissatisfaction when they had a higher ability to use internet information, greater financial stress, a higher educational level, and a greater availability of consumer education through newspapers and magazines. Additionally, consumers had a higher level of consumer dissatisfaction when they had greater holdings of imported famous brand goods, greater monthly income, and more experiences with overseas travel.

7차교육과정의 학교소비자 교육 내용분석 - 중학교 1, 2학년 "기술.가정"을 중심으로 - (The Analysis on Contents of School Consumer Education of the 7th Curriculum - Focused on "Home Economics & Technology" for 7th, 8th Grade -)

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze ‘consumer education system in middle school’, whether it is suitably organized to help students make the right decision in their daily life as a rational consumer in this fast changing “the Informational Society”. We divided the consumer education of “the Informational Society” into 4 fields of studies(consumer information technique, decision making on purchasing, consumer financial management, and consumerism) and made specific analysis for this research. The “Technology & Home Economics” textbook which follows ‘The 7th curriculum’ conducted by “Korean Educational Board” Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development for first and second grade in middle school were used for this analysis. The results founded are as follows: first, for the curriculum analysis according to the 4 fields of consumer education, both the first and the second grade students' textbook had consumer information technique as the major portion of the consumer education. Second, as a result of the comparison between the two grade levels showed that the second grade level has higher portion of consumer education in “Home economics & Technology” textbook than the first grade level. Third, the present status of consumer education showed that the first grade level's consumer education was only limited in consumer information technique, but the second grade level's consumer education was ranging evenly throughout the 3 fields of consumer education: consumer information technique, decision making on purchasing and consumerism. These results of this study contribute to the development of an efficient and desirable curriculum for the adolescent' consumer education, specially for school consumer education, in “the Informational Society”.

韓國과 美國의 농촌가계의 재정관리행동 : Deacon & Firebaugh 모델의 적용 (The Household Financial Management Activity in Korea and the U.S. Rural Families : Application of the Deacon & Firebaugh Model)

  • The Purpose of this study is to determine how Korean and United Sates families manage resourcese. Further, socioeconomic and social psychological determinants of frequency of family resoures management will be investigated for each country. Comparision of results well be made to find similarities and differences between Korea and the U.S. Most studies of family resource management have used urban samples, so this study adds to understanding of another segment of the populations. Family resource management variables, as dependent variables, were measured by asking respondents how often they used a variety of wasys to handle finances and time. Independent variables were : (a) total household income, (b) respondents education, (c) respondents ages, (d) householder size, (e) family adaptability, (f) family cohesion, and (g) interpersonal communications. Data for the Korean sample were collected in rural areas of South Korea during summer 1989, U.S. data were collected in two counties of Illinois. The data used in this study include 473 Korean samples and 301 U.S. families. In both samples, the respondent was the financial manager, the person who usually handled the finances and paid the bills. The data were analyzed by frequencys, t-test, and multiple regression analysis methods. As a results, U.S. respondents tended to engage in family resource management more frequently than Korean respondents. This could be attributed to a longer history of consumer education and financial management education taught in the public schools and through the Cooperative Extension Service in the U.S. Social-psycological variables were significant predictors of frequency of family financial management in both samples. the differences in both samples are that, in Korea, frequency of family financial management increased as household size and educational years increased, however, in the United States, the relationships of these variables were not significant. Some similarities and differences were found in Korea and the U.S. families, and this results represents that interpersonal communications are important determinants, even in different cultures. One hadn, the difference of socio-cultural factors result as the difference of some statisical differences. Findings from this study have important implications for research and education, and can be applicated to study of family resource management in other rural areas.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to achieve effective system improvement and operation methods for the improvements on the ability of firms'preparation of the financial statements Design/methodology/approach - This study conducts a survey of not only the accounting staff but also accounting specialist such as CPA or CTA. Findings - For the improvements on the ability of firms'preparation of the financial statements, comprehensive improvement in accounting education is needed as follows. First, the focus of accounting education should be converted to the consolidated financial statements, case study and analysis of accounting standards. Second, Financial Supervisory Service and Korea Accounting Institute in cooperation with accountancy firm need to create an accounting education program. Third, the focus of accounting education should be converted to consumer oriented education by providing accounting knowledge with various methods of teaching. Fourth, this study suggests the creation of the committee on Accounting Education. Research implications or Originality - As a result of the incorrect practice of firms'relying on auditors to prepare the financial statements, social concerns about the reliability of accounting information are raised because the incorrect practice decreases the auditor's independence and weaken the auditor's ability to verify accounting information. Therefore, this study analyzes the current status of auditors'preparation of the financial statements.

가족생활교육으로서의 재무교육의 현황 및 과제 -지역 건강가정지원센터의 프로그램을 중심으로- (Developing Financial Education Programs for Better Family Life Education in the Healthy Family Support Centers)

  • The purpose of this study was to emphasize the household financial education as a part of family life education, especially when provided at local community level; it also examines diverse measures by which to deliver such education. To this end, the current study focuses on the education programs of a healthy family support center, which has been established as a representative transmission system. The current status of its operations was examined, and practical measures by which to stimulate the delivery of financial education within that center were derived. In more detail, previous studies inside and outside of Korea were examined, and the current status of financial education included in the area of family life education was assessed; as a result of these assessments, the definition and objectives of financial education as family life education were adjusted. The limits of financial education that has been delivered thus far were reviewed, with the aim of proposing measures by which to sufficiently stimulate the delivery of financial education programs-programs that ultimately reflect the healthy family philosophy. This study proposes four specific measures by which to stimulate financial education. The first is the application of 'life cycle perspectives' to educational terms. The second is the activation of financial education programs that involve the family unit as educational subjects. Third, the delivery of lectures which related to the financing and nurturing of program coordinators was proposed. The fourth is drawing a connection between online and offline education in terms of effectively applying teaching methods. Ultimately, the results of this study can be used as basic data to inform the planning, development, and operational stages of financial education programs within family life education, which can be performed in healthy family support centers in the future.

A Preliminary Study of Financial Management Assistance Use by the Elderly in the U.S.

  • Due to increasing life expectancy, Americans live nearly 20 years after retirement. During this period, elderly persons have to stretch finances to manage the level of living without earnings. However, decision making ability decreases with age. One coping strategy for this problem would be seeking help from others. We examine factors affecting elderly persons' assistance use with respect to financial management using the 2000 Health and Retirement Study (N=3,823). It was found that age, education, health status, and ethnicity significantly affect elderly persons' financial management assistance use. The older-olds, those with lower educational attainment and poorer health status were more likely to use financial management assistance. However, Hispanic elderly were less likely to use financial management assistance.
