  • The heat and mass transfer process between the falling liquid desiccant(TEG) film and the air in counter flow at the dehumidifier of desiccant cooling system were investigated. The governing equations with appropriate boundary and interfacial conditions describing the physical problems were solved by numerical analysis. As a result, the effects of the design parameters and the outside air conditions on the rates of dehumidification and sensible cooling were discussed. The results of the dehumidification and sensible cooling rates were compared with those of the cross flow at the same conditions.

  • The wall film-wise condensation plays an important role in the heat transfer processes of heat exchangers, refrigerators, and air conditioner. In the field of nuclear engineering, steam condensation is often utilized in safety systems to remove the core decay heat under both transient and accident conditions. In particular, passive containment cooling system (PCCS), are designed to ensure containment safety under severe accident conditions. A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) scale analysis has been conducted to calculate the heat transfer rate of the PCCS. However, despite the increase in computing power, there are challenges in the long-term transient simulation of containment using CFD scale codes. In this study, a heat structure coupling between the CFD and system analysis codes was performed to efficiently analyze PCCS. In addition, the component unstructured program for interfacial dynamics (CUPID) was improved to analyze the condensation behavior of ternary gas mixtures. Thereafter, the condensation heat transfer on the primary side was calculated using the improved CUPID and CFD code, whereas that on the secondary side was simulated using MARS. Both the coupled codes were validated against the CONAN facility database. Finally, conjugate heat transfer simulations with wall condensation in the presence of non-condensable gases were appropriately performed.

  • Recently, Thin-film transistors (TFTs) are fundamental building blocks for state-of-the-art microelectronics, such as flat-panel displays and system-on-glass. Zinc oxide thin films have the advantage that they can grow at low temperature and can obtain high charge movility. Also the zinc oxide thin film can be used to control the resistance according to the oxygen content, so it is very easy to obtain the desired physical properties. In this paper, we fabricated a zinc oxide thin film on a polished copper substrate through a solution process, then improved the crystallinity through a geat treatment porcess, and studied to transfer it on a flexible substrate after the heat treatment was completed.

  • We investigated the quench characteristics of meander line type resistive superconducting fault current limiters based on YBCO thin films grown on 2" diameter LaAlO$_3$ substrates. A gold layer was deposited onto the 0.4 ${\mu}$ m thick YBCO film to disperse the heat generated at hot spots, prior to patterning into 1 mm wide meander lines by photolithography. The limiters were tested with simulated fault currents of various amplitudes. The quench started at 10 A and was completed within 1 msec at the fault current of 65 A$_{peak}$. The dynamic quench characteristics were explained based on the heat conduction within the film and the heat transfer between the film and the surrounding liquid nitrogen. The heat transfer coefficient per unit area was estimated to be 3.0 W/cm$^2$K.

  • The porous corrosion deposits (known as CRUD) adhered to the cladding have an important effect on the heat transfer from fuel rods to coolant in PWRs. The vapor film is the main constituent in the two-phase film boiling model. This paper presents a vapor film thickness correlation, associated with CRUD porosity, CRUD chimney density, CRUD particle size, CRUD thickness and heat flux. The dependences of the vapor film thickness on the various influential factors can be intuitively reflected from this vapor film thickness correlation. The temperature, pressure, and boric acid concentration distributions in CRUD can be well predicted using the two-phase film boiling model coupled with the vapor film thickness correlation. It suggests that the vapor thickness correlation can estimate the vapor film thickness more conveniently than the previously reported vapor thickness calculation methods.

  • This paper presents a silicon nanostructure array embedded in a polymer film. The silicon nanostructure array was fabricated by using basic microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) processes such as photolithography, reactive ion etching, and anisotropic KOH wet etching. The fabricated silicon nanostructure array was transferred into polymer substrates such as polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and polycarbonate (PC) through the hot-embossing process. In order to determine the transfer conditions under which the silicon nanostructures do not fracture, hot-embossing experiments were performed at various temperatures, pressures, and pressing times. Transfer was successfully achieved with a pressure of 1 MPa and a temperature higher than the transition temperature for the three types of polymer substrates. The transferred silicon nanostructure array was electrically evaluated through measurements with a semiconductor parameter analyzer (SPA).

  • Zinc-ion Batteries (ZIBs) are currently considered to be effective energy storage devices for wearable electronics because of their low cost and high safety. Indeed, ZIBs show high power density and safety compared with conventional lithium ion batteries (LIBs) and exhibit high energy density in comparison with supercapacitors (SCs). However, in spite of their advantages, further current collector development is needed to enhance the electrochemical performance of ZIBs. To design the optimized current collector for high performance ZIBs, a high quality graphene film is suggested here, with improved electrical conductivity by controlling the defects in the graphene film. The graphene film showed improved electrical conductivity and good electron transfer between the current collector and active material, which led to a high specific capacity of 346.3 mAh g-1 at a current density of 100 mA g-1, a high-rate performance with 116.3 mAh g-1 at a current density of 2,000 mA g-1, and good cycling stability (68.0 % after 100 cycles at a current density of 1,000 mA g-1). The improved electrochemical performance is firmly because of the defects-controlled graphene film, leading to improved electrical conductivity and thus more efficient electron transfer between the current collector and active material.

  • The absorption of vapor involves simultaneous heat and mass transfer in the vapor/liquid system. In this paper, a numerical study for vapor absorption process into LIBr-H$_2$O solution film flowing over helical absorber has been carried out. Axisymmetric cylindrical coordinate system was adopted to model the helical tube and the transport equations were solved by the finite volume method. The effects of operating conditions, such as the cooling water temperature. the system pressure, the film Reynolds number and the solution inlet concentration have been investigated in view of the absorption mass flux and the total absorption mass flux and the total absorption rate. The results for the temperature and concentration profiles, as well as the local absorption mass flux at the helical absorber are presented. It is shown that solution inlet concentration affected other than operation conditions for a mass flux.

  • This paper proposes appropriate conjugate parameters and dimensionless temperatures to analysis the conjugate problem of heat conduction in solid wall coupled with laminar film condensation flow adjacent to horizontal flat plate. An efficient methods for some fluids are proposed for its solution. The momentum and energy balance equations are reduced to a nonlinear system of ordinary differential equations with four parameters: the Prandtl number, Pr, Modified Jacob number, $Ja^*/Pr$, defined by an overall temperature difference, a property ratio $\sqrt{\rho_l{\mu}_l/{\rho_v{\mu}_v}$ and the conjugate parameter $\zeta$. The obtained similarity solution reveals the effect of the conjugate parameter, and the results are compared with the simplified solution. The variations of the heat transfer rates as well as the interface temperature and frictions along the plate are shown explicitly.
