This study was purposed to investigate the effects of surfactants and fillers on physical properties of hydrophilic polyvinylsiloxane dental impression materials (PVS). Incorporation of surfactants enhanced the hydrophilicity of the PVS, however, it induced increased viscosity and permanent deformation ratio, delayed setting, and decreased tensile strength. At high concentrations of surfactant, the tensile strength was observed to decrease significantly due to the internal pore formation. Especially, the hydrophilicity of the PVS was significantly enhanced with the addition of Silwet L-77. However, the viscosity, strain in compression, pore formation, and setting time increased whereas the elastic recovery rate and strength remarkably decreased. The PVS dental materials containing Span 20 showed the lowest degree of viscosity increase, delayed setting, pore formation, and hydrophilicity. The delayed setting, pore formation, and strength decrease caused by the incorporation of surfactant were improved by substituting the crystalline quartz filler with diatomaceous earth while the contact angle of PVS dental materials increased.
The objective of this investigation was to compare the effects of water storage on the aspect of hardness and diametral tensile strengths of four hybrid glass ionomer cements(two compomers and two resin-reinforced glass ionomers) with a resin composite material. One composite resin(Degufill Ultra), two compomers(Dyract, Compoglass Cavifil), and two resin-reinforced glass ionomers(Fuji Duet, Vitremer) were used in this study. Cylindrical specimens were prepared and stored at $36{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ in distilled water for 10 minutes after set, and then tested on an Instron testing machine(No.4467) at 1.0 mm/min displacement rate. Vicker's hardness and diametral tensile strengths as time elapsed were measured after aging in water for 10 minutes, 1 hour, 3 hours, 1 day, 3 days, 5 days and 7 days at $36{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. During the test of diametral tensile strength, stress-strain curves were obtained, from which the compressive modulus were calculated and compared. The structure of four set glass ionomer cement mass was observed on SEM(Hitachi, S-2300) after being etched with 9.6% hydrofluoric acid for 1 minute. The results were as follows; 1. The hardness of the experimental group(compomer and the resin reinforced glass ionomer cement) did not exceed the value of control group(Degufill Ultra). 2. Vicker's hardness of the Fuji Duet tended to increase succeedingly, Dyract was decreased after 3 hours in water, and Vitremer was the lowest. 3. The control group(Degufill Ultra) presented progressively on increased diametral tensile strength with time, Fuji Duet were decreased after 3 days, Compoglass Cavifil and Vitremer were decreased after 5 days in water storage. 4. Compressive modulus of the control group(Degufill Ultra) and Dyract were increased sharply timely, Fuji Duet and Vitremer were increased smoothly by lapse of time in water. Fuji Duet were stronger than Vitremer. On the other hand, Vitremer exhibited the lowest toughness. 5. The microstructure of compomer was similar with that of the composite resin(Degufill Ultra), and the fillers in resin-reinforced glass ionomer cements were noticed. It can be concluded that mechanical properties of hybrid glass ionomer cements is weaker than composite resin, and that the compomers or the resin-reinforced glass ionomers can not substitute the composite resins. A plenty of considerations should be done on the application of them to the area under the loading and high wear has a little adverse effect on the mechanical properties on the water storage for 7 days. The further research should be needed to confirm the advantage of the compomer.
Three types of epoxy resins (Epo-Tek 301, Araldite 103, and Araldite 106) and three types of pigments (bunche, pastel, and conté), which are materials for porcelain restoration, were selected as examination materials. The tone change, porosity, and sedimental resulting from the mixtures of varying ratios of these three materials were observed. Samples were also made from the mixture of Epo-teck 301, four kinds of white pigments, and six types of fillers and subjected to ultraviolet ray penetration for 200 hours to observe the oxidation of the epoxy resins. The result showed that the chemical composition of pastel drastically changed when mixed with Epo-tek 301. Although bunche and conté displayed clear colors, those of conté were less clear when it was mixed with other substances. Adding a small amount of Epo-tek 301 tended to be driven into the corner, whereas mixing a large amount caused saturation and boiling. On the other hand, AW 106 did not display clear colors owing to its high viscosity; when mixed in large amounts, however, the clarity of colors improved. For AY 103, a similar standard of color clarity was maintained regardless of the mixture ratio. The following was ranked according to the level of porosity: [Pastel>bunche≒conté]. In terms of sedimentary, however, [bunche>conté>Pastel], [Epo-tek 301> AY 103> AW 106]. The result of measuring the degree of yellowing revealed that titanium, pastel, silicon dioxide, and kaolin tended to turn yellow, whereas bunche, conté, diatomaceous earth, and calcium hydroxide tended to resist yellowing.
In this study, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were oxidized with a mixture of nitric acid and sulfuric acid. After oxidation, oxidized MWCNTs were treated with thionyl chloride ($SOCl_2$) and 1,4-butanediol (BD) in sequence at room temperature to introduce hydroxyl groups on the surface of MWCNTs. The prepared MWCNT-OH was silanized with 3-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxylsilane (MPTMS) to make MWCNT-MPTMS. The MWCNT-MPTMS was used as fillers in emulsion polymerization to make MWCNT-MPTMS/PMMA composite particles with 3 kinds of emulsifiers, hexadecyltrimethylammoniumbromide (CTAB) as a cationic, sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate (SDBS) as an anionic and polyethylene glycol tert-octylphenyl ether (Triton X-114) as a nonionic emulsifier. Morphologies of composite emulsions were confirmed by a particle size analyzer (PSA) and a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Morphologies of emulsion polymerized MWCNT-MPTMS/PMMA with SDBS showed more uniform particle size distribution compared to those of other two emulsifiers used emulsions. MWCNT-MPTMS/PMMA showed $3.4^{\circ}C$ higher $T_g$ compared to pristine MWCNT/PMMA due to covalent bond formation at interface of MWCNT-MPTMS and PMMA.
The Seokgatap pagoda composed of mainly alkali granite and other minor pink-feldspar granite, fine-grained granite, granodiorite, diorite, gabbro, and tuff. Despite the small loss and damage derived from joints, its peel-off and exfoliation are serious enough to cause the heavy deterioration on the stone surface. The chemical and petrological weathering has partly replaced the original rock-forming minerals with clay minerals and iron oxyhydroxides. Based on the petrogenesis, rock materials of the pagoda is very similar to rocks of Dabotap pagoda and the Namsan granite in the Gyeongju. The central fart of the pagoda has sunken highly, which caused all the corners to split and the structural transformation to become worse. The reverse V-shaped gaps between the materials have broken stones filled in a coarse way. The iron plates inserted between the upper flat stone laid on other stones and tile pagoda body in the north and east side has been exposed in the air and corroded, discoloring of the adjacent stones. The overall diagnosis of the Seokgatap pagoda is the deteriorated functions of the stone materials, which calls for a long-term monitoring and plans to reinforce the stone surfaces. But the main body including the pagoda roof stone needs washing on a regular basis, and the many different cracks should be fixed with glue by using the fillers or hardeners designed for stone cultural properties after removing the cement mortar. In case of the replacement of the stone materials with new stones, it's necessary to examine the pagoda for the center of gravity and support intensity of the materials. The structural stability of the pagoda can be attained by taking a reinforce measure in geotechnical engineering and making a drainage. The ground humidity, which has aggravated weathering and structural instability, should be resolved by setting up a humidity reduction facility. The contamination of lichens and bryophyte around the pagoda and on the surface is serious. Thus biochemical treatments should be given too in order to prevent further biological damages and remove the vegetation growing on the discontinuous planes.
The host rock of standing sculptured Buddha in the Yongamsa temple was macular biotite granite, which has gone through mechanical and chemical weathering. The principal rock-forming minerals are quartz, plagioclase, alkali feldspar, and biotite, the last two of which have been transformed into clay minerals and chlorite due to weathering processes. The bed rock around the Buddha statue is busily scattered with steep inclinations that are almost vertical and discontinuous planes with the strikes of $N8^{\circ}E$. The major joints have the strikes of N4 to $52^{\circ}W$ and N6 to $88^{\circ}E$ and the dips of 42 to $89^{\circ}$. Especially thee development of the joints that cross the major joints causes tile structural instability of the rock. The host rock of the Buddha image is separated into many different rock masses because of the also many different discontinuity, which group accounts for about $12{\%}$ of the rock. Thus it's estimated that the bed rock has not only plane and toppling failure but also wedge failure in all the sides. Since the earth pressure and the inclination pressure are imposed on the body of the Buddha in the basement rock, it's urgent to give a treatment of geotechnical engineering for the sake of its structural stability. The parts where serious fractures are seen should receive the hardening process using the fillers for stones. It's also necessary to introduce a landfill liner system in order to reduce the ground humidity. The rock surface of the Buddha statue are partly contaminated by lichens and bryophyte. The joints have turned into earth, which promotes the growth of weeds and plant roots. Thus biochemical treatments should also be considered to get rid of the vegetation along the discontinuous planes and prevent further biological damages.
The goal of this study was to examine property changes induced by the choice of filler used with an epoxy resin that was developed in 2014 to restore cultural assets and consider the applicability of the resin as a restorative agent. The properties of putty mixed with 9 types of fillers and as-developed resins were compared with those of existing materials with regard to stability, superiority and applicability. The potential of the putty as an alternative material was also examined. The materials produced the best adhesiveness, color change and hardness results when mixed with lime. Micro balloon produced the best wear rates and hardening times, while diatomite produced the best tensile and compressive strengths. A plaster and white mineral pigment mixture produced the best specific gravity. Every material except for lime exhibited about 2.5-20 times higher wear rates than the existing material, which is thought to exhibit an excellent cutting force. The hardening time was enhanced by about 0.5-9 times to improve convenience. The stability of the relic was also ensured by improving hand staining without any shrinkage or deformation. The material exhibited about 0.5-27 times less yellowing. Thus, it is thought to be a material that can reduce property changes and reduce the degree of relic fatigue which occurs during reprocessing and sense of difference from relic.

In this study, to examine the use of sulfur polymer as a coating agent for concrete, durability and hazard evaluations were performed. The result of the evaluation indicated that the chemical resistance of the coating agent for concrete was outstanding against acidic, base, and alkaline solutions. The evaluation of the bond strength after an accelerated weathering test depending on the mixing condition indicated that the most outstanding strength characteristic was obtained when silica powder and fly ash were mixed at the same time. The bond strength exceeded 1 MPa in every mixing condition even after the repeated hot and cold treatment of the coating agent specimen for concrete, and the SFS mix proportion showed the highest bond strength. The examination of the accelerated carbonation and chloride ion penetration resistance of the concrete coated with the coating agent indicated that the specimen coated with the coating agent using silica powder as a filler showed the most outstanding durability. When a fish toxicity test was performed to examine the hazard of the use of the functional polymer as a coating agent for concrete, the functional polymer was found to have no effect on the organisms. When the chemical resistance, freezing and thawing resistance, carbonation, and chloride ion penetration resistance of the coating agent were considered, substituting silica powder and fly ash as the fillers of the functional polymer by 20%, respectively, was the optimal level in the range of this study.

The particulate type silicon carbide (SiC) and fiber type carbon fiber (CF) filler, of similar thermal conductivities, were mixed with polyetheretherketone (PEEK) to investigate the filler effects on the thermal diffusivity. The SiC and CF fillers had a good and uniform dispersion in PEEK matrix. Thermal diffusivities of PEEK composites were measured from ambient temperature up to $200^{\circ}C$ by laser flash method. The diffusivities were decreased as increasing temperature due to the phonon scattering between PEEK-filler and filler-filler interfaces. Thermal diffusivity of PEEK composites was increased with increasing filler content and the thermal conductivities of two-phase system were compared to the experimental results and it gave ideas on the filler dispersion, orientation, aspect ratio, and filler-filler interactions. Nielson equation gave a good prediction to the experimental results of PEEK/SiC. The easy network formation by CF was found to be substantially more effective than SiC and it gave a higher thermal diffusivities of PEEK/CF than PEEK/SiC.
In this work, polymer composite electrolytes were prepared by a blend of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) as a polymer matrix, propylene carbonate as a plasticizer, $LiClO_4$ as a salt, and by containing a different content of $TiO_2$, by using the solution casting method. The crystallinity and ionic conductivity of the polymer electrolytes was evaluated using X-ray diffraction(XRD) and AC impedance method, respectively. The morphology of composite electrolyte film was analyzed by SEM method. From the experimental results, by increasing the $TiO_2$ content, crystallinity of PEO was reduced, and ionic conductivity was increased. In particular, the ionic conductivity was dependent on the content of $TiO_2$ and showed the highest value 15 wt%. However, when $TiO_2$ content exceeds 15 wt%, the ionic conductivity was decreased. According to the surface morphology, the ionic conductivity was decreased because the polymer composite electrolytes showed a heterogenous morphology of fillers due to immiscibility or aggregation of the filler within the polymer matrix.
