A Study on Cosmetic Culture Shown in Paintings of the T'ang Period (당대(唐代) 회화에 나타난 화장문화)

  • Regarding the figure painting of the T'ang period, by Yeomipbon, a representative painter of the early T'ang period, shows a traditional painting style. Figure paintings of the Prosperous T'ang period, influenced by Odoja's painting style, are characterized as illustrating the lives of noble women delicately with brilliant colors. They include Janghwon's and in which Chinese traditional and Western painting styles were combined. , and , which were painted by Jubang in the mid T'ang period, were the developmentally succeeded the figure painting style of the previous times, illustrating even the psychological and emotional states of painted figures in a sophisticated way. Skin make-ups shown in figure paintings of the T'ang period are mostly baekjang in type. Besides, other different types of the make=up such as bihajang, dohwajang and juwoonjang can be seen. The paintings, show that the tone of skin got more and more red as the times moved from the early to the late T'ang periods because rouge was more and more used as the times passed between the periods. As a type of forehead make-up, aekhwang is found in Janghwon's and of the late T'ang period. Hwajeon is seen in lots of figure paintings made between the Prosperous the late T'ang periods. Most eyelid make-ups shown in the figure paintings are round-shaped wolmi and yuhyeopmi in type. Besides, other creative types like gyeyeopmi, paljami and iljami are found. Lips are found made up clearer and more red as the times went from the early and the late T'ang periods. The types of cheek make-up like sahong and jangyeop can't be found in figure paintings of the T'ang period.

An Analysis of Somatotype of Elderly Women with Implications for Clothing Construction (노년층여성의 의복구성을 위한 체형분석 연구)

  • Physical measurements of 181 Korean elderly women, aged 60 through 79, living in the Seoul area, were taken in 1981 in order to analyze their body types and to study clothing construction according to their body types. The study was composed of 117 items in all; 35 items in measurements, 1 items in Rohrer index, 68 items in physical index to stature and bust girth, and 14 items in proportion, Coefficients of correlation among body dimensions were used. The results from this analysis are as follows: 1) The most significant changes in body dimensions in advanced age were the decrease of bust height and the increase of both abdomen girth and waist girth. 2) Distinct physical changes did not appear until advanced senescence(70~79 years of age). 3) In the three somatotype groups(thin, average, and plump) categorized by their Rohrer index, the dimensions that remained unchanged in senescence were back waist length and front waist length ; the dimensions that varied most significantly in senescence were the waist measurements. 4) As a result of the analysis of coefficients of correlation among the body dimensions of the 3 figure groups categorized by the Rohrer index, the fundamental dimensions for establishing the size of ready-to-wear garments of elderly women were the stature, bust girth and center back length in upper garments. 5) The result of the analysis of physical index and proportion of the 3 figure groups showed that the more plump a figure might be, the ratio of depth to width measurements increased; the back waist height was higher and trunk enlarged. 6) The 9 figure categorized by their Rohrer index and stature showed that the percentage of women in the category of“normal figure”decreased more in advanced senescence than during early senescence. 7) An analysis of variation of the 9 figure groups, the stature and other items for a short and thin figure were the smallest, and for a tall and plump figure, the largest.

The Relationship of the Body Surface Development Figure with the Sleeve Basic Pattern in the Standing and Arm-Movement Positions (정립시 및 동작시 팔의 체표면 전개도와 소매원형의 관계)

  • The suitability of the pattern manufactured with the development figure was considered by reviewing the development conditions that can be directly connected to the basic pattern in the human body surface development figure with the cast bandage method. The method to prepare the sleeve basic pattern was based on the cylindrical surface development method, and the sleeve basic pattern covering the 45 and 90 degrees momentum of the arm-movement was made by using the cast-type body surface development figure prepared with the horizontal line of the sleeve hem placed horizontally in the plan and by combining the cast-type body surface development figure in the standing position with the figure in the moving position. The test clothing was prepared with the sleeve pattern adding the bodice pattern in the standing position and the momentum and was worn on the FRP replica. The relationship theory of the body surface development figure with the pattern was derived by reviewing the suitability from the wearing state. The sleeve-cap height of the sleeve basic pattern resulted in about 80% in the standing position when the needs for a physical activity are 45 degrees and the about 50% when the needs for a physical activity are 90 degrees. The additional size of the diagonal length of the sleeve-cap could be set as "0" if the sleeve-cap height is low by 50% and as 50% of the additional size in the standing position if the sleeve-cap height is 80%.

A Study of Sizing System for Children′s Wear for the Use of E-Business (인터넷 전자 상거래를 위한 아동복 Sizing system 개발에 관한 연구)

  • The aim of this study is to suggest a Sizing System which has following points:- 1. In order to satisfy children of diverse figure shapes, we developed sizing system for three different figure type. Figure types are categorized into slim, normal, fat type based on the Rohrer Index. 2. For each figure types, we developed size chart using height bust circumference and hip circumference as basic measurements. The size codes are presented as the height-bust circumference or height-hip circumference. The size interval of height is 5cm for all figure types, such as 120,125,130 ‥‥ we developed a size allocation program, which is helpful when a customer doesn't know exact measurement of some body dimension. If a customer input measurements as much as he/she hows, the program allocates the nearest. At the end of the study, the sizing interaction sites were developed to present the results of the study clear.

  • The purpose of this study was 1) to analize the female figures with potbelly in the nude of the 15th-l6th century, 2) to find out the historic event which made these figures appeared, and 3) to clarify the influence these figures on dress. The results were as follows: 1) There was a sudden decrease in population by the Black Death in the Middle of the fourth century, so supplement of labor was urgent demand at that imp. Childbirth was the only way of supplement of manpower. 2) Therefore, the figure of pregnant woman was regarded as the female figure ideal. The artists depicted this figure ideal in nude. 3) This female figure ideal changed the form of dress. Pillow, pad, and special undergarments were used to make potbelly.

A Study on Secondary School Student's Recognition of Vision-dependent Jump in the Geometry Proof (기하 증명에서 중학생들의 시각의존적 비약 인식에 대한 연구)

  • Although a figure expression has a role of mediator in the geometry proof, it is not admitted to prove based on a vision-dependent feature. This study starts from the problem that although a figure expression has an important role in the geometry proof, a lot of students don't understand the limit of vision-dependent feature in the figure expression. We will investigate this problem to understand cognitive characteristic of students. Moreover, we try to get the didactical implications. To do this, we investigate the cognitive ability for a limit of vision-dependent feature, targeting a class of middle school seniors And we will have a personal interview with four students who show a lack of sense of limit of vision-dependent feature in the figure expression and two students for who it is difficult to judge that they don't understand the limit of vision-dependent feature in the figure expression. We will observe and analyzed the cognitive characteristic of six students. Based on the analysis, we will finally discuss on the didactical implications to help students understand the limit of vision-dependent feature in the figure expression.

  • This study classified figure types of adult males into several kinds of shape to provide fundamental data for their clothing sizing system. The subjects were 1496 men aged between 20 and 60 years old. Data were analyzed by factor analysis, cluster analysis and discriminant analysis. The results were as follows 1. For the result of the interview, the data were grouped into three age brackets: 20-35,31-45 and 41-60 years. 2. Factor analysis using values, which were measurements divided by either weight or height, was carried out to extract factors which characterize the various figures. fve factors to determine the figure types were extracted. 3. Cluster analysis using factor scores was carried out to categorize the figure types within the age groups. Figure types, describing shoulder angie and body shape, were categorized into 3 per age group. 4. Stepwise discriminant analysis w3s used to ensure that these clusters could be utilized with appropriate hit ratio. The hit ratio for each age group was around 80%.

A Study of Body Size and Body Cognition of Korean Female College Students (여대생의 실제체형과 인지체형에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to classify real somatotype of femalecollegy students by their obesity degree and to investigate cognitive somatotype by their level of body consciousness in female college students. The subjects were 172 female college students aged from 19 to 23 living in Daegu city. Average height of the subjects was 161.3cm. weight was 52.5kg. Rohrer Index was 125.3. BMI was 20.2. Vervaeck Index was 84.0. and percentage of body fat was 26.1. In classification of the subjects by 3 body indexes. lean figure took 37.8-50.0%. normal figure took 45.3-54.6%. and obese figure took 4.7-8.1% and in classification of the subjects by percentage of body fat. lean figure took 39.0%, normal figure took 46.5%. and obese figure took 14.5%. In consciousness and satisfaction about body parts. the subjects recognized that their girth items were . thick'. length items were' short'. and weight was 'heavy'. Also they generally preferred slender and long body.

  • According to Post-modernists including deconstructivists, as Modernism is changed into Post-modernism, the paradigm is shifted from consciousness to language. The paradigm of consciousness corresponds to representational language, and the paradigm of language to self-referential one. In post-modern age most of architects are wandering what kind of language architecture is. Some theorists contend that architecture is representational, and others that it is self-referential. Allan Colquhoun, who is known as one of the best architectural theorists inUnited States, accepts both the former and the latter, but fails to reveal the meaning and the limitation, of the two languages. Although he believes that the representational language of architecture ('figure') is the source of self-referential language of architecture('form'), he never clearly answers what kind of language architecture. In order to overcome the limitation and the meaning of Colquhoun's figure and form, and synthesize the two language, this essay appropriates Martin Heidegger's some concepts, 'ready-to-hand,' 'present-at-hand' and 'being-in-the-world' to make a theoretical framework for 'image' which prevails over and synthesizes 'form' and 'figure.' Since Image is based upon both 'being-in-the world' and 'ready-to-hand,' it is the source of 'form' and 'figure.' When 'image' is fragmented, the former and the latter emerge. Image is therefore both the former and the latter because it represents and self-refers a world as a reality.

Classification of the Somatotype by Obesity Indexes and Body Cognition of Female College Students (비만 판정지수에 의한 여대생의 체형분류 및 체형인지도)

  • The purpose of this study was to classify real somatotype by their obesity degree and to investigate cognitive somatotype by their body consciousness in female college students. In classification of the subjects by 3 body indexes, lean figure took 37.79~50.00%, normal figure took 45.35~54.65%, and obese figure took 4.65~8.14% and in classification of the subjects by percentage of body fat was, lean figure took 38.95%, normal figure took 46.51%, and obese figure took 14.54%. In consciousness and satisfaction about body parts, the subjects recognized that their girth items were 'thick', length items were 'short', and weight was 'heavy'. Also they generally preferred slender and long body.
