In this study, as a complementary study of the former study on indoor thermal environment in a tower type apartment house at tropical nights, a field measurement was conducted in winter season. Mainly, characteristics of heat storage and heat emission in apartment structures, in this study, were investigated. As results, indoor air temperature was changed in the range of $22.5^{\circ}C{\pm}1.0^{\circ}C$, and followed not the change of outdoor air temperature but the changed pattern of floor surface temperature. Wall surface temperature was unresponsive to the change of floor surface temperature compared with the change of indoor air temperature because wall structure was composed of concrete which has large heat capacity, and was changed in the range of $22.3^{\circ}C{\pm}0.6^{\circ}C$. Heat was stored continuously into the structures of wall and ceiling through the measurement term. and this means that a large heat capacity of the apartment structure acts as a disadvantage in winter season, too. As a total review of the study with the former study, a large heat capacity of the apartment structure acts against indoor thermal comfort in winter season as well as in summer season.
The unsteady Hartmann flow of an electrically conducting, viscous, incompressible fluid bounded by two parallel non-conducting porous plates is studied with heat transfer. An external uniform magnetic field and a uniform suction and injection are applied perpendicular to the plates while the fluid motion is subjected to a constant pressure gradient. The two plates are kept at different but constant temperatures while the Joule and viscous dissipations are included in the energy equation. The effect of the magnetic field and the uniform suction and injection on both the velocity and temperature distributions is examined.
The flow and the heat transfer about the cross-flow fin-tube heat exchanger in an out-door unit of a heat pump system has been numerically Investigated. Using the general purpose analysis code, FLUENT, the Navier-Stokes equations and the energy equation are solved for the three dimensional computation domain that encompasses multiple rows of the fin-tube. The temperature on the fin and tube surface is assumed constant but compensated later through the fin efficiency when predicting the heat-transfer rate. The contact resistance is also taken into consideration. The flow and temperature fields for a wide range of inlet velocity and fin-tube arrangements are examined and the results are presented in the paper. The details of the flow are very well captured and the heat transfer rate for a range of inlet velocity is in excellent agreement with the measured data. The flow solution provides the effective permeability and the inertial resistance factor of the heat exchanger if the exchanger were to be approximated by the porous medium. This information is essential in carrying out the global flow field calculation which, in turn, provides the inlet velocity lot the microscopic temperature-field calculation of the heat exchanger unit.
In this study a hybrid heating system based on geothermal source and solar heat was developed in order to save energy for greenhouse heating and its field performance was evaluated. Developed system are composed of following parts: water tank, heat exchanger, heat pump, fan coil unit and heat storage unit. The working performance test was carried out in a greenhouse cultivating oriental orchids being managed by $23^{\circ}C$. Field performance test results showed that average heating coefficient of performance ($COP_h$) was 3.4 for the period from mid-January to mid-March 2013. Heating coefficient of performance ($COP_h$) of developed hybrid heat pump system was more sensitive to water tank temperature than outside air temperature. This study showed that developed hybrid heat pump system has a potential to save the heating costs up to 91% compared to conventional agricultural oil heaters.
The phase change heat transfer has been applied to the processes of machines as well as of manufacturing. The cycle in a heat exchanger includes the phase change phenomena of coolant for air conditioning, the solidification in casting process makes use of the characteristics of phase change of metal, and the welding also proceeds with melting and solidification. To predict the phase change processes, the experimental and numerical approaches are available. In the case of numerical analysis, the Enthalpy method is most widely applied to the phase change problem, comparing to the other numerical methods, i.e. the Equivalent Specific Heat method and the Temperature Recovery method. It's because that the Enthalpy method is accurate and straightforward. The Enthalpy method does not include any correction step while the correction of final temperature field is inevitable in the Equivalent Specific Heat method and the Temperature Recovery method. When the temperature field is to be used in the calculation, however, there must be converting process from enthalpy to temperature in the calculation scheme of Enthalpy method. In this study, an improved method for the Equivalent Specific Heat method is introduced whose method dose not include the correction steps and takes temperature as an independent variable so that the converting between enthalpy and temperature does not need any more. The improved method is applied to the solidification process of pure metal to see the differences of conventional and improved methods.
A closed-loop cryogenic cooling system for high field magnets is presented. This design is motivated by our recent development of cooling system for 21 tesla Fourier Transform ion Cyclotron Resonance (FT-ICR) superconducting magnets without any replenishment of cryogen. The low temperature superconducting magnets are immersed in a subcooled 1.8 K bath, which is connected hydraulically to the 4.2 K reservoir through a narrow channel. Saturated liquid helium is cooled by Joule-Thomson heat exchanger and flows through the JT valve, isenthalpically dropping its pressure to approximately 1 6 kPa, corresponding saturation temperature of 1.8 K. Helium gas exhausted from pump is now recondensed by two-stage cryocooler located after vapor purify system. The amount of cryogenic Heat loads and required mass flow rate through closed-loop are estimated by a relevant heat transfer analysis, from which dimensions of JT heat exchanger and He II heat exchanger are determined. The detailed design of cryocooler heat exchanger for helium recondensing is performed. The effect of cryogenic loads, especially superfluid heat leak through the gap of weight load relief valve, on the dimensions of cryogenic system is also investigated.
Superconducting current leads are indispensible for reducing power loss when subjecting current into superconducting magnets. HTS(High-Tc superconducting) current leads are divided into two types; one is bulk type and the other is tape type. In this paper, conceptual design on the HTS current leads which adopts tape type for nuclear fusion magnets is carried out using magnetic field analysis and thermal analysis. When large current flows through superconducting current leads, strong self magnetic field is generated and applied to the superconducting tapes. This phenomenon leads to the critical current decrease of the superconducting tape. Therefore, we analyzed magnetic field distribution of current leads and found the proper arrangement with respect to the various HTS tapes. In addition to the magnetic field analysis, heat leak through the current leads was also calculated to know which HTS tape is superior than others in thermal aspect. Magnetical field analysis and calculation of heat leak are performed to design 2 kA class HTS current leads.
Recently, the design and construction of massive concrete structures are increased. But, the temperature rise within a large concrete mass make the construction of massive concrete structures be very difficult. Therefore, in Seohae Grand Bridge Project, the field measurement of hydration heat for the massive concrete footings(11$\times$22$\times$4m) was carried out. It was shown to be possible to construct the massive concrete footing successfully by application of pipe cooling system. And the measurement results showed that standard code for concrete practice was very conservative.
There have been many problems due to deformation in industry field. Especially, it is severe in parts with small size and thin thickness and in products that must have excellent airtightness and anti-noise. The countermeasures for this deformation in field have mainly been dependent on the rule of trial and error by operator's experience because of productivities. Systematic study about this product with deformation is also insufficient that deformation is complex problem with shape, size, material of product, joining method and conditions, etc.. It is efficient to apply CAE technique without influence on productivity to this problem. There is, however much difference between the result analyzed by CAE and appearances in working field because of the insufficiency of communication between simulator and worker and of sensing data for boundary condition in analysis. In this study, to solve this deformation problem, we intend to make a simulation model that is adapted from working conditions by tuning and feedback between sensing data and simulation results. This paper include temperature monitoring and make a heat transfer model using sensing data in product as previous step for deformation analysis. The heat transfer analysis of shrinkage fit process is considerably difficult due to contact heat transfer between case and core. To solve this contact problem, gap element is used in present study.
