The story treats each individual's vision as well as social reality that the author intends to describe. The purpose of this article is to search for the conflict between vision and reality, especially in feminist problem that critics have treated on the works of women writers. Though some articles have studied on the issue similar to this article, I try to analyze the narratives in the text that the author herself confesses to us. I think that we can find out clear messages from the individuals who construct the human relationship and build up their personal history through their dialogue or monologue. We can also catch their main problems in the community. I discuss the topic by mentioning the detailed discourses referred to the heroine and other characters in the text. The passages mentioned by the characters in the story may be a confession for the present and future generation that the author tries to confess. From the excerpts of some discourse, I can conclude that though Dorothea has a vision for her ideal, she is a failed feminist, for society is too strong for her as Miller (1990) argues.

Space Elevator introduced in the science fiction titled "The Fountatins of Paradise" by Arthur C. Clarke in 1979 could be attainable for the transportation of human and distribution from earth to space. Space Elevator could reduce shipping expenses and risks of the transportation system. Developing Space Elevator has to need rail technologies for the train and the rail using Carbon nanotube cable, installation of rail appropriated for Earth-orbiting. For this reason, rail technologies for developing Space Elevator will be suggested by this study through the case study.

The purpose of this paper is to find a method to combine engineering education and the humanities by means of the movie genre. Although the science technology has developed and our living standard has improved, humanities has a tendency to be underestimated. Humanities has been treated as something antiquated, uninteresting or worn-out because it has no economic value or usefulness in itself. Engineering students need flexible, analytic and critical thought as well as the qualities in constructing key questions and trying to solve themselves. Communicative and understanding abilities are also required to them. Movies as a constructive visual device show problems with the reality. Especially, the science-related movie genre offers them an opportunity to think over why humanities matters as well as what matters in human being. The movies make engineering students think, discuss and argue on the humanity.

In recent years, the tribological behavior of coated ceramic material has been the issue of much interest. Particularly, the understanding of the tribological performance of thin film under light load is important for its potential in applications of MEMS. The friction and wear behavior of ceramic material that occur at light load depends on several factors such as surface roughness, contact area and material properties. In this work, the tribological behavior of coated silicon under light load and low speed was investigated. Particularly, the effects of coated materials, humidity and undulated surface were also studied. The results show that the effect of humidity on fiction was influenced by the apparent area of contact between the two surfaces. Also both adhesive and abrasive wear occurred depending on the sliding condition. Finally, undulations on the silicon wafer were found to be effective in trapping wear particles and resulted in the reduction of friction.

This paper deals with determinig the proper friction welding condition and analyzing various mechanical properties of friction welded joints of sintered carbide tool materials(K20, P25, and SKDX5 for the blade part of drill or press punch) to alloy steel (SKH4, SCM440 for the shank part of drill or press punch), the alloy steel to aluminum(A6061 for the interlayer material between the blade part and the shank) and sintered carbide tool materials to alumminum. And also acoustic emission test will be carried out during fiction welding to evaluate the weld quality.

This essay examines Jacques Callot's Les Grandes Mis$\grave{e}$res et Malheurs de la Guerre (1633) as a moral meditation on war as catastrophe. It also uses Callot's Miseries to reflect on the nature of catastrophe as such, particularly as "An event producing a subversion of the order or system of things." As such, catastrophe refers less to nature or the natural gone awry, than it does to the abnegation or suspension of moral aspects of human nature. More than a reflection on war as catastrophe, and catastrophe as fundamentally moral, Callot's Miseries are a timeless meditation on aspects of the human condition; or on human beings in what amounts to state of nature-as evidenced in times of disaster. Such reflection, again, does not by itself imply that all war-even when catastrophic-is unnecessary, let alone necessarily unjust. But it does suggest that artistic engagement with war understood as catastrophic, may yield insights into human nature that are as important to human self-understanding as those represented in artistic subject matter that is more quotidian.

Recently, a neuro-fuzzy approach, a combination of neural networks and fuzzy reasoning, has been playing an important role in the motor control. In this paper, a novel method of fiction compensation using neuro-fuzzy architecture has been shown to significantly improve the performance of a DC motor system with nonlinear friction characteristics. The structure of the controller is the neuro-fuzzy network with the TS(Takagi-Sugeno) model. A back-propagation neural network based on a gradient descent algorithm is employed, and all of its parameters can be on-line trained. The performance of the proposed controller is compared with both a conventional neuro-controller and a PI controller.

The method of manipulation by striking a part and letting it slide until it comes to rest, has been very little studied. However, the manipulation method is not uncommon in our daily lives. We analyze the dynamic behavior of a rigid polygonal part being striked and sliding on a horizontal surface under the action of fiction. There are two parts in this problem; one is the impact problem, and the other is the sliding problem. We characterize the impact and sliding dynamics with friction for polygonal parts, and present the possibility of reverse calculation for motion planning of striking operations. Using a high speed video camera, the computer simulation results are experimentally verified.

In optical disk drives, one of commonly used pickup actuator is a Sliding and rotary type of pickup actuator which is cheaper than other pickup actuators and has simple assembly. However, it reported that non-linearity due to friction between a shaft and a sleeve had to be considerably analyzed in design and servo system in employing this type of pickup actuator. In this paper, this friction is modeled as a Coulomb's friction and the effect of friction is examined in the simulation. A digital servo system is applied to pickup actuator with friction in order to have good focusing servo. To enhance focusing servo performance using digital servo merit, frist PD-controller is applied to have fast response performance, second lead-lag compensator is applied to have stable focusing performance.

This analysis of the children's books used in kindergarten classroom activities focused on educational meanings of the books. The analysis included books used in 8 kindergartens in 1999. Finding were that 76.6% of books were published in the 1990s; 60.7% of the lines per page were over 5 lines; only 55 of 542 books were recommended as good books by public institutions; half of the books provided factual knowledges or informations; Korean books included more realistic than fantastic fiction while the opposite was true of foreign books; in Korean books, male characters appeared far more often than females; 70.1% of the themes of the books were related to the ten themes of life suggested by the Ministry of Education; and 44.8% of the contents included moral values while only 17.5% of those included adventure, hobbies or pastimes.
