This study concerns with the effect of fiber weight fraction on the fracture toughness of long glass-fiber reinforced polypropylene composites. Fracture tests were conducted using compact tension (CT) specimens made of glass fiber polypropylene composites. Three fiber weight fractions of 20%, 30%, and 40% were used. Fracture toughness was determined from the compliance method. Results showed that compliance decreased with increasing fiber weight fraction while critical load increased with fiber weight fraction. Averaged fracture toughness increased 14% as fiber weight fraction increased from 20% to 40%.

Three phase composite materials are widely used in the shipbuilding industry. When reinforced with fiber and particle, the physical and mechanical properties of polymer composite materials are improved. This paper presents the bending analysis of a three phase composite plate with an epoxy matrix, reinforced glass fiber and titanium oxide particles including creep effect when shear stress is taken into account. The obtained results indicate that creep strains lead to compression in the composite material. Introducing reinforced fibers and particles reduces the plate's deflection, when increasing the stretch coefficient allows the calculation of creep deflection during a long loading period.

This paper reviewed various methods of evaluating the toughness of fiber reinforced concrete materials by means of toughness indices and discussed the use of various multiples of first-crack deflection or first-crack secant compliance to define toughness indices. And a new method what is called effective toughness used to evaluate the toughness of steel fiber reinforced concrete. The proposed method determinded from the area below the load-deflection curve until deflection at the loading point becoms 1/150 of the span devided by the ligament area.

Recently, the wide range of the composite materials is used for the making airplanes, trains and automobiles body for the lightweight. Despite having complex structures, composite materials usually have well defined mechanical characteristics. However, composite materials are difficult to understand the fracture mechanism clearly by simple mechanical test. Nondestructive evaluation (NDE) combined with mechanical testing can play a more important role and especially Acoustic Emission Testing (AET) would become known to be a useful tool to assess damage and fracture behavior of composites. In this study The experiment was performed to acquire the acoustic emission signal during tensile test using unidirectional CFRP specimen and the data was analyzed the acoustic emission parameters with the waveform.
High performance fiber reinforced cement composites have better performances than traditional cement based materials, therefore, have been expected as new construction applications such as the materials for construction & bridge structure, repair and rehabilitation applications, anti-collapse applications, anti-noise applications etc. However, they have lots of the problems such as material design, fabrication method and structural analysis. Also, the most serious problems of High performance fiber reinforced cement composites have been expensive initial cost, lack of long-term exposure data. As a result, it is needed that the efforts for lowering the initial cost and accumulation of long-term exposure. There has been hardly assessment results of life cycle cost for HPFRCC in construction field, but some papers showed that total life cycle cost could be profitable if the initial cost could be reduced.
Woven sisal textile fiber reinforced composites were used to evaluate fracture toughness, tensile and three-point bending. The water absorption testing of all specimens was repeated five times in this study. All specimens were immersed in pure water during 9 days at room temperature, and dried in 1 day at $50^{\circ}C$. Two kinds of polymer matrices such as epoxy and vinyl-ester were used. Fractured surfaces were taken to study the failure mechanism and fiber/matrix interfacial adhesion. It is shown that it can be enhanced to improve their mechanical performance to reveal the relationship between fracture toughness and water absorption fatigue according to different polymer matrices. Water uptake of the epoxy composites was found to increase with cycle times. Mechanical properties are dramatically affected by the water absorption cycles. Water-absorbed samples showed poor mechanical properties, such as lower values of maximum strength and extreme elongation. The $K_{IC}$ values demonstrated a decrease in inclination with increasing cyclic times of wetting and drying for the epoxy and vinyl-ester.
Carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP), which have been developed for their high mechanical properties, are insufficient to secure machinery. This paper investigates the use of magnetic abrasive finishing methods and the characteristics of surface roughness for mirror machining of CFRP. The cylindrical surface of CFRP was ground using a diamond paste with sizes of 0.1, 0.5, 1 and 6${\mu}m$. Consequently, an effective surface roughness of 0.03${\mu}m(R_a)$ could be obtained via a paste size of 0.5${\mu}m$. The surface roughness was not improved due to epoxy abrasion between the carbon fiber and the epoxy.
Oxidized-PAN fiber reinforced composite(OFRP), carbon fiber reinforced composite(CFRP), aramid fiber reinforced composite(AFRP), and glass fiber reinforced composite(GFRP) were fabricated with phenolic resin matrix by hot press molding. We tested the friction coefficient and wear rate varying with fiber weight fraction and observed the effect of fibers according to characteristics of individual reinforcement. When the amount of aramid fiber was 45wt%, average friction coefficient was maximum value of 0.353~0.383, where as, when the amount of pitch based carbon fiber was 45wt%, average friction coefficient was the lowest value of 0.164~0.190. The wear rate of AFRP and CFRP was low, but that of GFRP and OFRP increases drastically in the case of increasing of fiber weight fraction. Wear diagram of OFRP was unstable, but that of CFRP and AFRP was a bit stable. Through very unstable diagram of GFRP, we found that friction stability of GFRP was the lowest.

Recently, research and development has been conducted to impart high performance and functionality to concrete materials by mixing various reinforcing materials into the matrix. Ductile fiber reinforced concrete using a large amount of fibers shows a distributed multiple cracking behavior, and various studies are being conducted on this material. However, research is focused on static behavioral analysis but studies on cyclic behaviors are not sufficient. In this study, beams were made of ductile fiber reinforced concrete with various fiber contents, and static and fatigue flexural tests were performed. As a result, the effect of fiber content on the flexural behavior was analyzed. Also, the applied load level and fatigue life relationship of ductile fiber reinforced concrete was proposed. Concrete with high ductile property could be achieved with a fiber content of 2%. When 0.5% fiber was more added, the maximum flexural strength was similar, but the flexural toughness is nearly doubled. On the other hand, there was no significant difference in the fatigue life of these two mixtures.
