Prediction of ECC tensile stress-strain curves based on modified fiber bridging relations considering fiber distribution characteristics

  • This paper presents a prediction and simulation method of tensile stress-strain curves of Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC). For this purpose, the bridging stress and crack opening relations were obtained by the fiber bridging constitutive law which is quantitatively able to consider the fiber distribution characteristics. And then, a multi-linear model is employed for a simplification of the bridging stress and crack opening relation. In addition, to account the variability of material properties, randomly distributed properties drawn from a normal distribution with 95% confidence are assigned to each element which is determined on the basis of crack spacing. To consider the variation of crack spacing, randomly distributed crack spacing is drawn from the probability density function of fiber inclined angle calculated based on sectional image analysis. An equation for calculation of the crack spacing that takes into quantitative consideration the dimensions and fiber distribution was also derived. Subsequently, a series of simulations of ECC tensile stress-strain curves was performed. The simulation results exhibit obvious strain hardening behavior associated with multiple cracking, which correspond well with test results.

The Fatigue Behavior and Delamination Properties in Fiber Reinforced Aramid Laminates -Case (I) : AFRP/Al Laminates-

  • The fuselage-wing intersection suffers from the cyclic bending moment of variable amplitude. Therefore, the influence of cyclic bending moment on the delamination and the fatigue crack propagation behavior in AFRP/Al laminate of fuselage-wing was investigated in this study. The cyclic bending moment fatigue test in AFRP/Al laminate was performed with five levels of bending moment. The shape and size of the delamination Lone formed along the fatigue crack between aluminum sheet and aramid fiber-adhesive layer were measured by an ultrasonic C-scan. The relationships between da/dN and ΔK, between the cyclic bending moment and the delamination zone size, and between the fiber bridging behavior and the delamination zone were studied. As results, fiber failures were not observed in the delamination zone in this study, the fiber bridging modification factor increases and the fatigue crack growth rate decrease and the shape of delamination zone is semi-elliptic with the contour decreasing non-linearly toward the crack tip.

  • FRMLs consist of thin sheets of high strength metal, which are laminated using a structural adhesive and high strength fibers. ARALL(Aramid-fiber Reinforced Aluminum alloy Laminates) of FRMLs is a new class of hybrid material. HERALL(Heracron Reinforced Aluminum Laminate) i.e. domestic ARALL is made of homemade aramid fibers, adhesives and adhesive technique. Domestic aramid fiber is Heracron manufactured by KOLON and domestic adhesive is epoxy resin manufactured by Han Kuk Fiber. In this study, Fatigue crack propagation behavior was examined in a 2024-T3 aluminum alloy/aramid-fiber epoxy 3/2 laminated composites, HERALL and ARAL $L^{ⓡ}$-2 LAMINATE comparing with 2024-T3 aluminum alloy. The extrinsic toughening mechanisms in HERALL and ARALL were examined, the crack bridging behavior of fibers was analyzed by new algorithm, which measures crack bridging stress, and the crack bridging zone length was measured.

취성기지 복합재료에서 연성 단섬유의 함유량 및 형상에 관한 보강특성 (Reinforcing Characteristics on Volume and Shape of Ductile Short-Fiber in Brittle Matrix Composites)

  • The reinforcing effects of ductile short-fiber reinforced brittle matrix composites are studied by, measuring flexural strength, fracture toughness and impact energy as functions of fiber volume fraction and length. The parameters of fracture mechanics, K and J are applied to assess fracture toughness and bridging stress. It is found that fracture toughness is greatly, influenced by the bridging stress ill which fiber pull-out is occur. For the reinforcing effects as functions of fiber volume fraction($V_f$ = 1, 2, 3 %) and length(L = 3, 6. 10cm), the flexural strength is maximum at $V_f$ = 1% and both fracture toughness.

탄소섬유 보강 고강도 시멘트 복합체의 기게적 특성에 관한 연구 (Mechanical Properties of High Strength Cement Composite with Carbon Fiber)

  • Two sheets of high strength cement paste using ordinary Portland cement and water soluble polymer (polyacrylamide) were made by kneading with a twin roll mill. A carbon fiber layer out between two sheet of the cement paste, and then carbon fiber reinforced high strength cement composites were prepared by pressing them. The mechanical properties of the composites were investigated through the observation of the microstructure and the application of fracture mechanics. When the carbon fiber was added with 0.2 and 0.3wt% to the composites the flexural strength and Young's modulus were about 110∼116MPa and 74∼77GPa respectively, and critical stress intensity was about 3.14MPam1/2. It can be considered that the strength improvement of high strength cement fiber composites may be due to the removal of macropores and the increase of various fracture toughness effects; grain bridging, frictional interlocking, polymer fibril bridging and fiber bridging.

Numerical modeling for cyclic crack bridging behavior of fiber reinforced cementitious composites

  • Recently, many researches have been done to examine the behavior of fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) subjected to the static loading. However, a few studies have been devoted to cyclic behaviors of FRC. A main objective of this paper is to investigate the cyclic behavior of FRC through theoretical method. A new cyclic bridging model was proposed for the analysis of fiber reinforced cementitious composites under cyclic loading. In the model, non-uniform degradation of interfacial bonding under cyclic tension was considered. Fatigue test results for FRC were numerically simulated using proposed models and the proposed model is achieving better agreement than the previous model. Consequently, the model can establish a basis for analyzing cyclic behavior of fiber reinforced composites.

수정된 섬유 가교 특성을 고려한 ECC의 인장변형특성 (Tensile Deformation Characteristics of ECC Predicted with a Modified Fiber Bridging Curve)

  • 지금까지 ECC의 인장거동 예측에 대한 이론적인 연구는 균열면에서 섬유가 균일하게 분산되어 있다고 가정하고 섬유 가교 곡선을 유도하는 방법으로 수행되었으며, 섬유의 기울어진 각도와 섬유사이의 간격은 섬유 가교 곡선을 예측하는데 큰 영향을 준다. 그러나 이론적으로 유도된 방법은 섬유의 기울어진 각도와 섬유 간격에 따라서 섬유가교 곡선의 형태가 달라지는 것을 모사하지 못하여 실제 섬유 가교 곡선과 차이를 보이며, ECC 인장거동을 예측할 때 큰 오차가 발생할 수 있다. 이 연구에서는 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 균열면에서 섬유 가교 작용에 기여하는 유효 섬유의 개수를 섬유의 기울어진 각도와 섬유 간격에 따라 고려한 후, 수정된 섬유 가교 곡선을 구하고, 이를 이용하여 보다 합리적인 ECC의 인장거동 예측기법을 제시하였다. 또한, 인장거동 예측에 중요한 변수인 초기 균열 강도, 섬유 가교 곡선에서의 최고 응력과 변위, 인장변형률, 균열간격을 구하기 위한 방법과 절차를 제시하였다. 그리고 예측 방법의 타당성을 평가하기 위하여 수정된 섬유 가교 곡선과 이론적인 섬유 가교 곡선으로 구한 ECC의 인장거동을 실험 결과와 비교하였다. 수정된 섬유 가교 곡선을 사용할 경우, 실험 결과와 잘 일치함을 알 수 있었으며, ECC의 인장거동을 합리적으로 예측할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

보강 섬유의 배향각에 대한 확률밀도함수를 고려한 ECC내의 섬유 가교 모델 (Fiber Bridging Model Considering Probability Density Function of Fiber Inclined Angle in Engineered Cementitious Composites)

  • 섬유 가교 곡선은 섬유보강 시멘트 복합체의 인장 거동을 예측하고 분석하는데 중요한 요인이다. 이 연구의 목적은 ECC에서 섬유 배향각의 분포와 섬유 개수를 정량적으로 고려할 수 있는 섬유 가교 모델을 제시하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 먼저 섬유 배향각과 섬유 개수를 정량적으로 고려할 수 있는 섬유 가교 모델을 유도하였다. 섬유 배향각과 섬유 개수는 이미지 프로세싱 기법을 사용하여 계측하였다. 이미지 분석을 통하여 계측한 섬유 배향각에 대한 확률밀도함수와 섬유 개수는 섬유 배향각을 2차원이나 3차원에 무작위로 분포된 것으로 가정하는 것과 큰 차이를 보였다. 이는 타설방법이나 유동흐름에 따라 섬유 분포 특성이 영향을 받기 때문으로, 모델의 검증을 위해 정확한 섬유분포 특성을 파악할 필요가 있다. 따라서 이미지 프로세싱 방법으로 계측한 섬유 분포 특성을 근간으로 보강섬유의 배향각과 단면 내 섬유 개수를 고려하여 얻은 섬유 가교 곡선으로 1축 인장 거동을 모사하였다. 모사한 1축 인장 거동은 실험 결과와 유사하게 다중 균열과 변형률 경화 거동을 보이는 등 1축 인장 거동을 정확히 나타낼 수 있는 것으로 검증되었다.

  • The main object of this study was evaluated by the delamination damage for fiber stacking angle. Therefore, this work need to compare the shape of delamination for a different fiber stacking angie. So this study uses a method of fatigue test which was created [0]$_2$,[+45]$_2$[90]$_2$. The extension of the delamination zone formed between aluminium alloy and glass fiber-adhesive layer were measured by an ultrasonic C-scan image. As a result, the shapes of delamination zone don't depend upon the crack propagation. We could know that the delamination zone grew interaction between stress flow of fiber layer and crack driving force. Hence, the existing study were applied to the stress transfer, fiber bridging effect, delaminantion growth rate should need to the develop useful factor because of change of fiber stacking angle.

반복-굽힘 모멘트가 A15052/AFRP 적층재의 층간분리 영역과 피로균열진전에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Cyclic-bending Moment on the Delamination Zone and the Fatigue Crack Propagation in A15052/AFRP Laminates)

  • A15052/AFRP laminates were developed principally to obtain a material with good fatigue strength, in which possible cracks would grow very slowly. Weight savings of more than 30% should be attainable in practice. Also, the crack bridging fibers could still was carry a significant part of the load over the crack, thus the COD and stress intensity factor was reduced at the crack tip. A15052/ AFRP laminates consists of three thin sheets of 5052-H34 aluminum alloy and two layers of [0] unidirectional aramid fiber prepreg. The cyclic-bending moment test was investigated based on applying the five kinds of bending moments. The size of the delamination zone produced between 5052-H34 aluminum alloy sheets and fiber-adhesive layers was measured from ultrasonic C-scan pictures taken around the fatigue crack. In addition, the relationship between the cyclic-bending moment and the delamination zone size was studied and the effect of fiber bridging mechanism was also considered.
