Effects of Alloying Elements on Sticking Occurring During Hot Rolling of Ferritic Stainless Steels (페라이트계 스테인리스강의 열간압연 시 발생하는 Sticking에 미치는 합금원소의 효과)

  • In this study, effects of alloying elements on the sticking occurring during hot rolling of five kinds of ferritic STS430J1L stainless steels were investigated by analyzing high-temperature hardness and oxidation behavior of the rolled steels. Hot-rolling simulation tests were conducted by a high-temperature wear tester which could simulate actual hot rolling. The simulation test results revealed that the sticking process proceeded with three stages, i.e., nucleation, growth, and saturation. Since the hardness continuously decreased as the test temperature increased, whereas the formation of Fe-Cr oxides in the rolled steel surface region increased, the sticking of five stainless steels was evaluated by considering both the high-temperature hardness and oxidation effects. The addition of Zr, Cu, or Si had a beneficial effect on the sticking resistance, while the Ni addition did not show any difference in the sticking. Particularly in the case of the Si addition, Si oxides formed first in the initial stage of high-temperature oxidation, worked as initiation sites for Fe-Cr oxides, accelerated the formation of Fe-Cr oxides, and thus raised the sticking resistance by about 10 times in comparison with the steel without Si content.

  • Recent trend and future prospect of flat rolling of steel has been summarized based on the earlier reports. Key technology in the plate rolling is to have ultra fine microstructure having high resistance against crack propagation during application. Heavy accelerated cooling facility and high power rolling mill will be helpful to develope the high toughness steel. Precise modeling of properly prediction based on deformation and transformation imposed on microstructure of steel during processing is highly anticipated. For the hot strip rolling process, new trend is lies on the production of ultra-thin gauged hot strip to substitute cold rolled strip. For the substitution of cold rolled strip into hot rolled strip widely, high formable property of hot strip is highly required. For the formabilit, the ferritic rolling of extra low carbon steel under high lubricated condition is essential. Recently introduced semi-continuous thin slab and rolling mill line is very plausible to develope those kinds of products easily In the view groin facility combination. New idea to modify the existing continuous hot strip mill line to produce the ultra thin-gauged hot strip in an economic way is suggested in this report.

  • Reduced activation ferritic steel, JLF-1 steel (Fe-9Cr-2W-V-Ta), is one of the promising candidate materials for fusion reactor applications. Fracture toughness ($J_IC$) and tensile tests were carried out at room temperature and elevated temperature ($400^{\circ}C$). Two types of CT specimen were prepared to examine the effect of rolling direction on the fracture toughness of JLF-1 steel. Four types of tensile specimen were also prepared to investigate the property by the rolling direction and welding. The Micro Vickers hardness was measured at various distances of a cross section of the TIG joints of JLF-1 steel according to the heating history of each position. Finally, the fracture surface was observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

  • The passivation (or deactivation) of a metal surface during oxide film formation has been quantitatively explored for a ferritic stainless steel by using dynamic electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (DEIS). For this purpose, the electrochemical impedance spectra were carefully examined as a function of applied potential in the active nose region of the potentiodynamic polarization curve, to separate the charge transfer resistance and oxide film resistance. From the discrepancy in the potential dependence between the experimental charge transfer resistance and the semi-empirically expected one, the degree of passivation could be quantitatively estimated. The sensitivity of passivation of the steel surface to anodic potential, which might be the measure of the quality of the oxide film formed under unit driving force or over-potential, decreased by 31% when 3.5 wt% NaCl was added to a 5 wt% $H_2SO_4$ solution.

  • Reduced Activation Ferritic/Martenstic (RAFs) are leading candidates for structural materials of D-T fusion reactor. One of The RAFs, JLF-1 (9Cr-2W-V, Ta) has been developed and proved to have good resistance against high-fluency neutrino irradiation and good phase stability. Recently, in order to clarify the strengthening mechanical at high temperature, a new scheme to improve high temperature mechanical properties is desired. Therefore, the creep properties and creep life prediction by Larson-Miller Parameter method for JLF-1 to be used for fusion reactor materials or other high temperature components were presented at the elevated temperatures of $500^{\circ}C$, $550^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$, $650^{\circ}C$ and $704^{\circ}C$. It was confirmed experimentally and quantitatively that a creep life predictive e벼ation at such various high temperatures was well derived by LMP.

Therefore, the test technique development of high temperature creep behaviors for this material is very important. In this paper, the creep properties and creep life prediction, using the Larson-Miler parameter method for JLF-l to be used for fusion reactor materials or other high temperature components, are presented at the elevated temperatures of 50$0^{\circ}C$, 55$0^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$, $650^{\circ}C$ and 704$^{\circ}C$. It was confirmed, experimentally and quantitatively, that a creep life predictive equation, at such various high temperatures, is well derived mr the LMP method.

THE OPTIMUM PROCESS PARAMETERS FOR DELUBRICATION AND SINTERING THAT RESULT IN LOWEST LEVELS OF NITROGEN, OXYGEN AND CARBON AND MINIMUM LEVELS OF CHROMIUM DEPLETION WILL BE PRESENTED, FOR A NUMBER OF AUSTENTIC AND FERRITIC STAINLESS STEELS.   • As a new technical approach, a hydraulic and magnetic clamp device was developed to realize a magnetic clamp crane system by simultaneously actuating eight individual hydraulic cylinders. In this approach, an Sr-type of ferritic permanent magnet (SrO· 6Fe2O3), rather than the previous electromagnet, was utilized for the purpose of lifting and transporting the large curved steel plates used for manufacturing ships. This study had the goal of developing and manufacturing a hydraulic, magnetic clamp prototype composed of three main parts, including the base frame, cylinder joint, and magnet joint, in order to safely transport curved steel plates. Furthermore, this research included a performance evaluation of the manufactured prototype and acquired the purposed quantity value in the performance test. The most significant item, the magnetic adhesive force (G), was evaluated in a performance test, which utilized a ferritic permanent magnet (Sr type) with 3700~4000 G of residual induction (Br) and 2640/2770 Oe of coercive force (Hc). In particular, relevant items such as the hoist tension (kN), transportation time (s), and applied load (Kgf) on the hydraulic cylinders were also evaluated in order to determine the optimum values.
