  • It is well known for 410L ferritic stainless steel powder to applicate a sensor ring in anti-lock brake system of automobile, several studies, because of its excellent magnetic properties. This study was carried out In investigate the magnetic properties such as the maximum magnetic induction, coercivity and maximum permeability of the materials with functions of sintering density! time and temperature, and concluded as follows; 1. Sintering under the circumstances of hydrogen gas and tile temperature of $1250^{\circ}C$ for 60min. showed that nitrogen was increased, whereas carbon and oxygen decreased in quantities. 2. Both maximum magnetic induction value of 4700Gauss and permeability of 200 were obtained at the maximum sintering density of 6.89g/$cm^3$. Here, the properties showed a linear increasement with increasing the sintering density. 3. Coercivity sharply increased with incresing the sintering density and reached to 7.6Oe at the maximum sintering density of 6.89g/$cm^3$.

  • Effects of ferrite grain size on static and dynamic deformation behaviors of SCM415 stels were investigated in this study. Dynamic torsional test was conducted using torsional Kolsky bar with the strain rate of $1.6{\times}10^3/s$. Specimens with three different grain size of ferrite, $4.6{\mu}m$, $11{\mu}m$, $35.5{\mu}m$ were used. Dimple fracture mode of the dynamic test specimens showed adiabatic shear bands on the beneath of fracture surface. Increased uniform elongation and decreased non-uniform elongation appeared as grain size of ferrite decreased in dynamic torsional test. However, shear strength was independent on grain size of ferrite.

  • The microstructural effects on the ultrasonic nonlinearity were investigated in isothermally degraded ferritic 2.25Cr-1Mo steel and low cycle fatigued copper. The variation in ultrasonic nonlinearity (${\beta}/{\beta}_0$) was interpreted as resulting from microstructural changes supported by the electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction, in addition to the mechanical test (Victor's hardness and ductile-brittle transition temperature). The ultrasonic nonlinearity of 2.25Cr-1Mo steel increased abruptly in the initial 1,000 h of degradation, and then changed little due to the coarsening of carbide and precipitation of stable $M_6C$ carbide during isothermal degradation. The ultrasonic nonlinearity of copper increased with the fatigue cycles due to the evolution of dislocation cell substructure.

  • Variation of welded-joint hardness and tensile strength of a accelerated-cooled fine-grained ferritic-pearlitic steel with heat input was investigated. In a weld heat-affected zone, a softened zone was formed and it had lower hardness than that of a base metal. While the width of a softened zone increased continuously with an increase of heat input up to 100kJ/cm. the minimum hardness in a softned zone was almost constant after a continuos decrease up to 60KJ/cm. Because of a softened zone, the welded-joint was fractured in the HAZ and its maximum reduction of tensile strength was about 20%. Measured welded-joint tensile strength and calculated minimum tensile strength in a welded-joint was almost same, which means that the plastic restraint of a softened zone did not occur in this experiment. It is believed that as a softened zone width-to-specimen thickness ratio is as high as 2~6 in this experiment, the plastic restraint effect does not occur. Theoretical analysis shows that the plastic restraint effect occurs only when the ratio is below 0.5.

  • Dual phase steels have a microstructure comprising of a polygonal ferrite matrix together with dispersed islands of martensite. There are clear differences between the image quality (IQ) map of the dual phase and the corresponding ferritic/pearlitic structures, both in the as-heat treated and cold rolled conditions. Electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) techniques were used to study the evolution substructure of steel due to plastic deformation. The martensite-ferrite and ferrite-pearlite interfaces were observed. The interface can be a source of mobile dislocations which the bands seem to originate from the martensite islands. In particular, the use of image quality is highlighted.

  • A developed molybdenum hybrid-alloyed steel powder is based on a molybdenum prealloyed steel powder to which molybdenum powder particles are diffusion bonded. The sintered compact made of this powder has a finer pore structure than that of the conventional molybdenum prealloyed steel powder, because the ferritic iron phase $({\alpha}-phase)$ with a high diffusion coefficient is formed in the sintering necks where molybdenum is concentrated resulting in enhanced sintering. The rolling contact fatigue strength of the sintered and carburized compacts made of this powder improved by a factor of 3.6 compared with that of the conventional powder due to the fine pore structures.

  • The wear test has been performed to evaluate the wear mechanism of steam generator (SG) tube materials against ferritic stainless steel in water environment. The wear rates of SG tube materials depend on the change of mechanical properties between contact surfaces during wear test. From the subsurface hardness test, Inconel 690 is more work-hardened than Inconel 600 even though these materials have similar hardness values before the wear test. Main cause is due to the difference of stacking fault energy with the chromium content. In water environment, wear mechanism is closely related with the continuous formation and fracture of deformation layers at the contact surfaces.

  • Parametric studies have been conducted into the variability of the factors affecting the ultrasonic testing applied to weldments. The influence of ultrasonic equipment, transducer parameters, test technique, job parameters, defect type and characteristics on reliability far defect detection and sizing was investigated by experimentation. The investigation was able to build up substantial bank of information on the reliability of manual ultrasonic method for testing weldments. The major findings of the study separate into two parts, one dealing with correlation between ultrasonic techniques, equipment and defect parameters and inspection performance effectiveness and other with human factors. Defect detection abilities are dependent on the training, experience and proficiency of the UT operators, the equipment used, the effectiveness of procedures and techniques.

  • The corrosion characteristics of Cr steels were investigated to protect Cr steels from the SO2-gas corrosion in the coal-fired power plant. The samples tested were low alloy ferritic steel (ASTM T22, 23), martensitic steel (ASTM T91, 92, 122), and austenitic stainless steel (ASTM 347HFG). The corrosion tests were performed between 600oC and 1000oC in Ar + (0.2, 1)%SO2 gas for 100 hr. Chromium was quite beneficial to corrosion resistance, while iron was not. The corrosion resistance increased in the order of T22, T23, T91, T92, T122, and 347HFG.
