Objective: The objective of the present study was to investigate pork quality from Hereford${\times}$Berkshire female and intact male pigs reared outdoors in an alternative production system. Methods: Berkshire purebred sows were artificially inseminated, once in the fall and again in the spring of the following year, with semen from Hereford boars and managed free of antibiotics in an outdoor hoop structure until the last month of pregnancy, after which they were moved to a pasture-based unit of 0.8 hectares with individual lots with a farrowing hut, shade, and water ad libitum. Piglets were weaned at 4 weeks of age and housed in a deep-bedded hoop structure, grouped by sex. Animals were harvested at market weight of 125 kg, approximately 200 days of age. Hot carcass weight was collected at the time of the harvest. After 24 hours of refrigeration, carcass characteristics were measured. Longissimus dorsi samples collected from the right side loin. Loins were cut into 2.54-cm thick chops and were used to measure marbling score, color score, drip loss, and ultimate pH. Sensory panel tests were conducted as well at North Carolina State University. For pork characteristics and sensory panel data, trial and sex were included in the statistical model as fixed effects. Hot carcass weight was included in the model as a covariate for backfat thickness. Results: Neither the subjective nor the objective color scores displayed any differences between the boars and the gilts. No difference was found for pH and marbling score between trials or sexes. Gilts had a thicker backfat measurement at the last lumbar and a narrower longissimus muscle area measurement when compared to the boars. The only difference in the sensory characteristics was found between the trials for texture and moisture scores. Conclusion: Consumers were not able to detect boar taint under the condition of this study, which is that the intact males were reared outdoors. Additional trials would be necessary; however, based on the results of the present study, outdoor rearing can be suggested as a solution to the issue of boar taint.
This study had carried out to investigate the usage status of customer, the positive effects and problems, and the most important items of the nutrition labeling at purchasing the food etc. on the current nutrition labeling system in order to establish the customer-centric nutrition labeling system. Survey was carried out by questionnaire method that is targeted on adult female above 20 years old in Seoul and Kyeongnam area from May to June, 2004. For the experience of checking the nutrition label of the processed domestic and imported processed food, 82% and 75.4% of the respondents were replied 'have checked' respectively. For the positive effects due to enforcement of the nutrition labeling system, the respondents agreed highly with 'easy to compare with other products' and 'improve the products quality'. For the problems of the nutrition labeling system, the respondents agreed highly with 'different criteria for each product' and 'incendiary purchasing due to false or exaggerated labeling', and gave the higher scale for the positive effects than the problems relatively. For the necessity of the nutrition labeling system, 96.2% of the respondents were replied 'necessary', and it was indicated a significant difference on age and marital status(p<.01). For the price rising due to enforcement of the nutrition labeling system, 55.2% of respondents agreed, and it was indicated a very significant difference on age and monthly income(p<.001). For the most important nutrition labeling items at purchasing the food, the respondents were replied 'total calorie' on most of the food, and in addition, they checked carefully the lipid, cholesterol, protein, Ca, and Fe.

This study was to examine the factor structure of pursuing benefit and satisfaction at casual and official wear, to analyze the differences of pursuing benefit, satisfaction, and clothing purchase behavior among the consumer groups segmented by store pursuing benefits, and to provide useful information for establishment of marketing strategies. The subjects were 500 female consumers experienced in purchasing clothes at fashion outlet stores. A total of 500 questionnaires were analyzed with $X^2$-test, ANOVA, factor analysis and Duncan's multiple range test. The results were as follows: 1. Pursuing benefit and satisfaction at casual wear and official wear were composed of 5 factors. 2. Pursuing benefit and satisfaction at casual and offcial wear, and clothing purchasing behavior variables such as informants, frequency of purchase, shopping time, and average monthly expenditure on clothes were significantly different among the 3 segmented groups. Product pursuing group was shown to seek higher level of esthetic feeling, suitability for self image and body, fsshion and symbolic meaning of brand than other groups in casual and official wear and to be most satisfied at symbolic meaning of brand, social recognition, and practicality in casual wear of outlet and at suitability and social recognition in official wear of outlet. Store convenience pursuing group was shown to seek higher level of suitability for self image and body, quality, and practicality than other groups in casual and official wear and to be most satisfied at quality and practicality in casual wear of outlet and at practicality and suitability in of cial wear of outlet. Price pursuing group was shown to seek and to be most satisfied at practicality in casual and official wear of outlet.
The purpose of this study is to provide the fundamental data through researching on the actual condition of foreign consumers, the image of DongDaeMun fashion market, the customer satisfaction measurement of DongDaeMun fashion market, and the degree of satisfaction of DongDaeMun market's products. The results of this study are as follows: 1. The analysis on gender who visits DongDaeMun fashion market reveals that female(77.6%) was more than male, and the each age group has a priority in orders of 30s, 20s and 40s. The Japanese shoppers has more willing to visit again and a number of visitors has visited more than twice and many of them came by for the purpose of shopping. Japanese shoppers get the information of DongDaeMun fashion market from families or advertisements by media, while Chinese customers get the information through travel agencies. 2. The image of DongDaeMun fashion market by foreigners is generally positive. They were satisfied with the facilities of DongDaeMun fashion market, the convenience of transportation, business hour and ambience of store, and fashion of clothes. Foreign customers who visited Korea on purpose to do shopping and frequent visitors to Korea have a similar image of DongDaeMun fashion market with that of domestic visitors. 3. The degree of satisfaction to the DongDaeMun fashion market for clothing was usually high. There were only few differences between Chinese shoppers and Japanese shoppers. The higher the satisfaction to the DongDaeMun fashion market was the more they had bought and high intention of visiting. And the more experiences of visiting to the DongDaeMun fashion market showed the higher degree of satisfaction.

This study investigates the influence of technology readiness, fashion innovativeness, and participation level perception on the acceptance intention of 3D virtual fitting systems. We presented a 3D virtual fitting system with detailed information that was watched by respondents who subsequently completed a research questionnaire. The data were collected from 300 subjects with an age range of 21 to 39 who have experienced Internet shopping. Descriptive statistics, Cronbach's alpha, factor analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were conducted. The results were as follows. First, fashion innovativeness, technology innovativeness, participation level perception, and optimism significantly influenced the acceptance intention. Second, fashion innovativeness, technology innovativeness, participation level perception, and optimism positively influenced the acceptance intention in the male group; however, technology innovativeness, participation level perception, optimism, and insecurity significantly influenced the acceptance intention in the female group. The results indicated that a marketing strategy has to be designed that focuses on consumers with high technology, fashion innovativeness, and optimism to increase the acceptance intention. In addition, markers have to enhance a participation level perception that will contribute to the introduction of 3D virtual fitting systems. Another notable finding was the importance to differentiate marketing strategies according to gender.
Today, many fashion companies use brand extension and it is especially important to conduct brand extension that coincides with consumer self-image, and maintains brand loyalty in order to succeed. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of congruency of parent brand image with self-image, brand loyalty, and brand involvement on the attitude towards extended product in fashion brand extension. A survey questionnaire was used to collect information from 170 female college students, and collected data were subjected to descriptive analysis, factor analysis, and regression analysis. Results showed that the congruency of parent brand image with self-image had a positive effect on the attitude towards extended product in fashion brand extension, with a positive mediating effect of brand loyalty, and a negative mediating effect of brand involvement. Also, the congruency of parent brand image with self-image and brand loyalty of the parent brand had a positive effect on the attitude towards the extended product, whereas brand involvement had a negative mediating effect on the attitude towards the extended product in fashion brand extension. The results of this study provide some useful suggestions to marketers in fashion industry: marketers should consider some psychological aspects of consumers such as congruency of parent brand image with self-image, brand loyalty, and brand involvement when conducting brand extension.
In order to investigate the recognition of processed foods, use of food labeling, and their influencing factors in adolescents, 277(male 125, female 152) middle school students were conveniently selected from Cheonan city, and were surveyed by self-recording questionnaire on June, 2000. Subjects' parents were also surveyed using the similar questionnaire. Food labels of all 222 processed foods collected from stores around schools, were well labeled in most items, but food additives(35.6%) and the origin of major ingredient(27.0) were not well indicated. The recognition score of processed foods was 55.0 out of a full score 100 in students and 68.5 in parents. The scores of students were positively correlated with those of their parents and with father's education years, while negatively correlated with snacking expenses. The rate of reading food labels was significantly different between students(51.3%) and their parents(89.9%). The main purposes of reading food labels, in case of students, were to check expiry date(93.7%), price(70.4%), and how to eat(46.5%) in order. While in parents, those were to check expiry date(95.6%), additives(59.0%), and manufacturer(45.8%). Similarly, the most three important items in food labels were expiry date, price, and quantity to the students, but to the parents they were expiry date, manufacturer, and ingredient. The most significant reason not to confirm food labels was because of small size and complication of labels. The students who did not read food labels had more snacking money and more frequent snacking, and showed lower recognition score of processed food, compared with the students who read food labels. In conclusion, the students did not well recognise processed foods and only a half of them read food labels at purchasing. The recognition score of processed foods, snacking moneys, and snacking frequency may be influencing factors on the reading of food labels in students. The high recognition of processed food of parents may positively affect the students' recognition, but did not affect directly the reading food labels.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate perception, acceptance and satisfaction of dessert menu in elementary school children. Five hundred students (246 male, 254 female) were recruited at the elementary schools in Seoul. The results show that dessert menus of elementary school lunches are needed to satisfy diverse acceptance and preference levels of children. For dessert items chocolate milk among beverage items, peaches among fruits, chocolate cookies among cookies, piece cake among breads and honey rice cake among rice cakes presented high acceptance scores. Furthermore, fruits, ice creams, juices and cookies were the most liked food items. Taste and health of desserts were important factors in perception of dessert. Rice cake (48.6%), a Korean traditional food, was the most preferred food item, followed by tea punch (31.2%), Korean cracker (10.0%) and Shanja (4.0%). Taste (51.4%) was considered as the most important factor for improvement of dessert, and increasing variety of dessert items (43.4%) was considered as the most important factor affecting demand of dessert. It is suggested that continuous update of school dessert menus is needed to meet consumers' demands and health aspects. Furthermore, Korean traditional desserts might be the key for improving satisfaction in desserts in elementary school lunches.
In a world where opportunities and chances are common, the phenomenon referred to as "generation maybe" describes people in their 20s and early 30s who are usually being indecisive. With the increase in breadth of information and choices, the number of people who are hesitant in deciding whether to purchase increases at a fast pace, as does the number of products and services targeting this group. In order to enhance our understanding of the phenomenon of consumer hesitation, this study explores contextual factors and consumer characteristics that affect consumer hesitation in the purchase decision-making process. Specifically, this study examines whether seven contextual factors, self-determination tendencies, and five decision-making styles influence consumer hesitation in the product decision making process. An online survey was administered to test our research questions. A total of 309 Korean consumers (female=48.9%) aged from 20 to 35 were surveyed. A regression analysis revealed that four contextual factors (product involvement, need for information on alternatives, relative price, and uncertain need), two sub-dimensions of self-determination (perceived competence and relatedness), and two decision-making styles (price seeking and advice seeking) have noticeable influences on consumer hesitation. We also found that the degree of consumer hesitation positively influences consumer post-purchase satisfaction. The study concludes with discussions and practical implications.

This study proposes a research model that examines the impact of perceived technological innovativeness on curiosity and fun, which influence revisit and word-of-mouth intentions for an augmented reality store. Data was collected from 189 female consumers in their 20s and 30s living in the Seoul metropolitan area using a convenient sampling method. The results of the study were summarized as follows. First, perceived technological innovativeness was found to have positive effects on curiosity and fun. Second, curiosity had a positive relationship with fun. Third, curiosity had positive effects on revisit and word-of-mouth intention toward the augmented reality store, while fun had no effect on revisit and word-of-mouth intention. Fourth, curiosity mediated the relationship between perceived technological innovativeness and revisit intention, and between perceived technological innovativeness and word-of-mouth intention. The introduction of innovative technology in the offline store leads to a positive response through curiosity rather than fun; therefore, it is suggested that fashion companies develop and utilize augmented reality content that stimulates more curiosity.
