  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes of static and dynamic balance control ability according to the stability of shoes in elderly woman and female university student. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Six elderly women and seven female university students were recruited for this study. The subject's static and dynamic balance were evaluated while wearing two different types of shoes (comfortable running shoe and masai walking shoe). The BT4 system was used to measure the static (postural sway area and velocity) and dynamic balance (limit of stability on forward, backward and left and right side). The measurement of static and dynamic balance control ability was performed in standing posture wearing comfortable running shoes and masai walking shoes. Results: In the static balance control ability, both female university students and elderly women showed significant increase in postural sway area and velocity when wearing unstable shoes (p<0.05) In addition, in the dynamic balance control ability, both female university students and elderly women showed significant decrease in limit of stability on forward and backward when wearing unstable shoes (p<0.05). Conclusion: In selecting shoes for the elderly, the stability of shoe should be considered for prevention of falls.

  • Purpose: The study has been undertaken on several factors that may influence on the orthodontic treatment satisfaction with the subject of male and female university students who have experience in receiving the orthodontic treatment by visiting orthodontic clinic. Methods: This study has implemented questionnaire survey for 350 male and female university students who have experience in receiving the orthodontic treatment by visiting orthodontic clinic due to the mall occlusion, From the 350 questionnaires collected, a total of 291 copies (83.1%) excluding the questionnaires that have inconclusive response or erroneous response is used as the research analysis data Results: The orthodontic treatment satisfaction is significantly higher for students in large cities and mid- to small sized cities than students in rural area, and it was higher for students with mid-economic class that students of upper class and lower class. It is shown for a student that began the orthodontic treatment from the elementary school, a student that had 5 times or more of brushing teeth for each day had significantly higher level of satisfaction that students that are not. In addition, a student that knows well of the oral hygiene management method, a student that had the fluoride application treatment during the orthodontic treatment period and a student that used the toothbrush for orthodontic service had significantly higher level of satisfaction that students that are not. Conclusion: Factors influencing on the orthodontic treatment satisfaction are very diverse and it is considered that it requires effort to improve the quality of medical service and sufficient understanding on several factors to improve the orthodontic treatment satisfaction for patients as well as the encouragement for orthodontic treatment patients of the relevant people in orthodontic clinics that provide the orthodontic clinic service.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate high school students' perceptions of biotechnology. Participants in this study were 9th and 10th grade students who were enrolled in high schools in Gyeonggi Province. The survey instrument used in this study was a 26-item questionnaire that was designed to measure students' perceptions regarding biotechnology. The study revealed that students' perceptions were positive toward the use of biotechnology on biological objects such as plant, grain and microbes. However, their perceptions were negative toward the use of biotechnology on humans and animals. Male students' perceptions were more positive than female students and there were significant differences between male and female students(p<.01). The study also revealed that male and female students had positive perceptions about the use of biotechnology in the development of beneficial products. However, male students' perceptions were more positive than female students(p<.01). Female students' perceptions were slightly more negative than males and they indicated a measure of caution in the development of beneficial products using biotechnology. Regarding the reliability of biotechnological information acquired from food companies, TV broadcasters, and entertainers, male and female students tended to be highly negative. Students perceived that environmental, religious and ethical issues did not affect the use of biotechnology when asked the effect of these factors on the use of biotechnology. They perceived that food safety and genetic factors of microbes did affect the use of biotechnology. Thus, the study findings suggest that teaching and learning strategies based on the differences of perceptions between male and female students of this study be established and the use of media, development of teaching method and materials be promoted in order to enhance student's performance in environmental education.

Methods : The subjects of this study were 164 (male 108, female 56) oriental medical students in Busan. MMPI scores were analyzed about validity scales, clinical scales and personality disorder scales in aspects of whole student, attendant year, gender and ages. Results & Conclusions : First, The average scores of MMPI scales showed that oriental medical students in graduating class lay within the range of normal. There was no difference among attendant years, and averages of each year made little difference to whole student. The students belonged to 'defensive group' that were doing adaptive defense relatively Second, in comparison with gender, female students got more social adaptability and less stress than male students. In comparison with ages, group of $28{\sim}42$ years old tended to make up themselves with defensive attitude.

  • In this study, the perceptions of science classroom climate were investigated for 360 elementary and middle school students in mixed classes. The instrument used was an adapted version of the Student Perception Questionnaire (SPQ), which consists of five elements-Participatory Climate, Personalized Interaction, Student Assertiveness, Positive Teacher, and Negative Teacher. The results indicated that the gender differences in the perceptions of the Participatory Climate and the Positive Teacher were not significant for middle school students. However, the differences were found to be significant in the perceptions of the Negative Teacher, the Personalized Interaction and the Student Assertiveness, which measure the climate for the individual student. On the other hand, elementary male and female students did not significantly differ in the perceptions of science classroom climate except one item on the Participatory Climate. Educational implications are discussed.

  • This study investigated various attributes that contributed to successful employment in order to develop employment support programs, especially for female engineering students. We surveyed engineering students who graduated between 2006 and 2011. The 401 employed graduates participated in an online survey. The surveys inquired about their attachment towards their major, participation in various academic and non-academic activities, and their participation's contribution to their successful employment. In regards to their majors, women, in general, had lower levels of satisfaction, confidence, attachment, and motivation to succeed in their fields when compared to their male counterparts. These results show that engineering colleges still need to work on empowering female engineering students to gain confidence in their engineering major and attachment. The graduate school experience was highly rated by both men and women, whereas double majors exhibited somewhat lower scores. Among academic activities, part-time work experience and major-related internships were rated as the most helpful, and among extracurricular activities, study-abroad for language training and participation in student council or clubs received high scores. There was little difference between men and women in study-abroad participation, and women participated more actively in student councils. However, women had much less major-related work experience, reaffirming that colleges need to expand internship and field experience programs for female students.

The instruments for data obtainment were KSRI of Kim(1994), and Health Style : A Self-Test provided by ODPHP National Health Information Center. These instrument were reliable, showing Cronbach $\alpha$ .98 and .77. Frequency, t-test, $x^2$-test, stepwise regression were conducted for data analysis, using SAS 6.12 program. The major findings were as follows : 1. For female student. Androgeny(34.0%)type was most common and subjects of feminity type were 28.7%. In contrast, Masculinity type(41.8%) was most prevalent. and undifferentiated type was 30.1% among male students. There were significant difference between male and female student in the type of sex role identity. 2. 89.6% of all subjects were included in risk group for exercise and physical activity, 86.4% for diet habit, 43.2% for alcohol drinking and drug use, 35.6% for stress control, 32.8% for safety behavior, 24.8% for smoking. The big health risk behavior problem of male students were smoking, drinking, diet habit, and exercise. The important health risk behavior problem were diet habit and exercise. There were significant difference in smoking, drinking, exercise between sex. 3. Analysis of the distribution by sex role identity type and health behavior revealed that subjects who were undifferentiated typed group had high risk behavior in stress control, safety, exercise, drinking. Smoking and drinking were more problematic for masculinity typed group had high risk behavior in diet and exercise. The data showed that androginy typed group had more healthy behavior, compared with other sex role identity typed group for all of health behavior. Further research is need to understand the role of sex role identity in health behavior, the variables associated with them. And sex role identity has to be considered in research and practice about health promotion.
