The purpose of this study was to analyze the dimensions of clothing benefits sought of male and female consumers in their twenties. It also aimed to investigate the demographic characteristics associated with customers types and the relationship among the related variables by the consumers types. The data were analyzed by factor analysis, one-way ANOVA, Duncan test, cluster analysis, and $X^2$-test. The results of this study are as follows: 1) The clothing benefits consisted of five factors, which were the pursuit of style, individuality, popular brand, vogue, and practicality. Based on these five factors, respondents were classified into four consumer types, which were style-and-trend-oriented, practicality-oriented, popular brand-oriented, and fashion indifference consumers. 2) In terms of the demographics, there were significant differences in age, gender, and total income among the consumer types of clothing benefits. 3) There was a significant difference in single brand loyalty in terms of the consumers types of clothing benefits. The popular brand-oriented group showed the highest mean in the single brand loyalty, while the practicality-oriented group did the lowest. 4) There were significant differences in the selection of the stores among consumers types of clothing benefits. Specifically, the style-and-trend-oriented group the most selected department stores, while practicality-oriented group chose fashion outlets or online shopping malls the most. Additionally, in terms of the information sources, the style-and-trend-oriented group the most frequently used magazine ads, while the popular-brand-oriented group preferred commercials on TV or radio, direct mail, or flyers from department stores. On the other hand, the fashion indifference group the most frequently used mass media.
The purposes of this study were to investigate bag purchasing behaviors and design preferences of male and female adult consumers, and to find the differences depending on sex and age variable. A survey was conducted on 400 male and female adults from 20s to 50s. The questionnaire consisted of bag purchase behaviors, bag design preferences, and the subjects' demographic characteristics. The data were analyzed by Cronbach's α, factor analysis, x2 test and t-test using SPSS. The results were as follows. First, as bag selection criteria, four factors (practicality, symbolism, aesthetics, and economics) were derived, and adult consumers considered economics as the most important among the factors. As for purchasing information sources, three factors (media, human resources, and store) were derived, and adult consumers considered human resources and store information sources more important than media. The main motive for purchasing bags was age and damage of the owned products, and Internet shopping malls were the most common purchasing place. The average annual cost of purchasing bags was 100,000 to 300,000 won, and the frequency of purchase was about once a year. Second, as bag preference images, four factors (individual, romantic, active, and classic image) were derived, and adult consumers preferred classic images the most. The shoulder bag was the most preferred as the bag shape, and black was the most preferred bag color. For the material, natural leather was the most preferred, and for the size, medium size was the most preferred. Third, bag purchasing behaviors and design preferences showed many significant differences according to the sex and age of the consumers. Therefore, the results of this study suggests that bag companies need to establish product development and marketing strategies in consideration of differences according to the sex and age group of adult consumers.
Consumers can share their diverse opinions about products due to the increased popularity of smartphones and the internet that enables increased access to the websites and encourages the use of 'SNS' (Social Network Services). Social commerce has expanded rapidly as a mainstream online shopping channel over the past year, compelling consumers to spend more money vis-$\grave{a}$-vis social commerce websites. This allows individuals to see different lists of prices for specific products; however, it is also likely to lead to serious compulsive buying. Despite these changing trends, earlier studies have been limited to factors that affect impulse purchases vis-$\grave{a}$-vis Internet shopping malls; therefore, in is salient to conduct research on consumer spending habits related to social commerce websites. This study describes the characteristics of consumers and utilizes social commerce websites as parameters for the impact of impulsive shopping based on a survey of 300 women in their 20's who have experienced impulse buying vis-$\grave{a}$-vis social commerce websites. This study shows that: First, discounts, product scarcity and social commerce site's reputation affect impulse buying when consumers buy products from the social commerce websites. Second, variables on the characteristics of the personal experiences, interests, and self-control also stimulate impulsive purchases.
Internet shopping provides convenience to consumers, however, in recent years the consumer's return rate and return-related disputes continue to increase. This article examines the characteristics of return behavior through return experiences of internet clothing purchases. For an empirical study, questionnaires were handed out to 317 undergraduate male and female students, in which the results had been used for data analysis. Data were analyzed through SPSS 12.0 software, descriptive statistics, factor analysis, t-test, ANDVA analysis, Duncan test, and $x^2-test$. The results are the following: The analysis of consumers' return factor for clothes in Internet shopping showed there are five factors: product and quality, delivery, impulse buying, change of mind, and service. There is a significant difference in product quality of return factors depending on the availability of the return experience. Thus, consumers with return experience showed more return tendency owing to product quality factor than consumers without return experience. The availability of consumer's return experience was significantly related to information search. Consumers with return experience showed more consistent information search than consumers without return experience. There were significant differences in perceived risks depending on the availability and degree of consumer's return experience. In other words, consumers with return experience perceived more account related risk than consumers without return experience. Moreover, the more return experience the consumer has, the more risks consumers perceived in product performance.
The study aims to examine consumer awareness of green fashion products and demographic characteristics by subdividing environmentally conscious consumers of such products in the current domestic fashion market. It then compares the result with the characteristics of environmentally conscious consumers studied by 1999 in order to understand the trend of the consumer group in the fashion market and to promote the use of green fashion products. Marketing strategies for green fashion products suggested by the study are as follows: First, fashion firms are required to develop and publicize shops selling recycled or second-hand clothing that environmentally conscious consumers show constant interest. For instance, clothing patterns may be developed to enable consumers to make their kids' clothing easily at home, and various garments made from recycled materials may stimulate environmentally conscious consumers' desire to buy. Particularly, advanced technologies should be developed and publicized to manufacture garments that can excel existing ones made of normal materials in their features in order to satisfy consumers' interest in clothing made from recycled PET bottles. In addition, various natural dyes should be developed to decrease water pollution. Second, it seems imperative to develop clothing made of recycled knitted apparel that attracts consumers' interest more than ever, fashionable multi-purpose clothing, and environmentally friendly materials. As the use of natural fur or leather can cause the endangerment of wild animals and the destruction of the ecosystem, synthetic fur or leather may be used to develop sophisticated products with the same texture as real ones to attract environmentally conscious consumers' interest.
The purpose of this study is to find out the influences of consumers' shopping orientation and impulse buying orientation on shopping addiction to fashion products in the internet shopping malls. This study surveyed 521 male and female consumers in their 20s~40s in August 2012 who have purchased fashion products through internet shopping malls. For statistical analysis, descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, $x^2$-test, factor analysis, ANOVA analysis, Duncan test, and regression analysis were carried out using SPSS for Windows 12.0. The results are as follows. First, it was identified that there were not significant differences in consumers' demographic characteristics according to the level of internet shopping addiction consumer groups. Second, high level shopping addiction consumers were higher in pleasure/convenience seeking, fashion seeking, and brand seeking shopping orientations and in refreshing, non-plan shopping, recommendation from acquaintances, product stimulus, purchaser stimulus, sales promotion stimulus impulse buying orientations than low level consumers. Third, internet shopping addiction was significantly influenced by the pleasure/convenience, fashion, economic efficiency, brand, sale seeking shopping orientations and refreshing, non-plan shopping, sales promotion stimulus impulse buying orientations. The results of this study will help internet fashion enterprises to handle the consumers with shopping addiction as well as the consumers with high shopping addiction to be able to manage their shopping addiction themselves.
The purposes of this study were to investigate Chinese female consumers' shopping orientation and clothing shopping behaviors on the internet and to find the differences in internet shopping behaviors of consumer groups segmented by clothing shopping orientation. The subjects were 417 women in their 20s and 30s from the Gillim Province, China. The research method was a survey, and the questionnaire consisted of a clothing shopping orientation subscale, clothing, their shopping behaviors via the internet, and the subjects' demographic characteristics. For data analysis, a frequency analysis, a cross-tab analysis, a factor analysis, a cluster analysis, ANOVA, and Duncan's multiple range test were performed. The results of this study were as follows. The clothing shopping orientation was derived using five factors (trend pursuit, pleasure pursuit, brand pursuit, economic pursuit, and convenience pursuit). Chinese female consumers were classified into three groups (hedonic group, ambivalent group, and practical group) by clothing shopping orientation. These three groups showed many significant differences in their clothing shopping behaviors on the internet. The hedonic group preferred the specialty and cross-border shopping malls, and considered product quality and trend as their main purchase motives. The ambivalent group considered the convenience of the purchase and trend as important motives as compared to the other groups, and they use more various product selection criteria. The practical group considered low price and convenience and the search simplicity of various products as major purchase motives. In addition, the hedonic and ambivalent groups had a higher purchase satisfaction and purchase intention from internet shopping than the practical group. This study suggested that clothing shopping orientation is one of the useful segmentation variables and fashion marketers needed to establish differentiated marketing strategies for each consumer group that is segmented by clothing shopping orientation.
This study was conducted to investigate purchasing behavior of jeans consumers and to find differences in jeans evaluative criteria according to consumers' characteristics. Male and female university students participated in the study. Quota sampling method was used to collect the data. Data from 492 questionnaires were used for the statistical analysis. Descriptive analysis, factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha coefficient, ANOVA, Duncan test, and t-test were conducted. Three factors of jeans evaluative criteria classified (i.e., external criteria, internal/aesthetic criteria, internal/quality criteria). Results indicated that most of respondents put on jeans wear more than three times per a week and 38.1% of respondents reported that they owned three to four jeans products on average. Department store was the most used place to buy jeans product with 44.2%. 27.5% of respondents spent from 50,000 won to 100,000 won on purchasing jeans. Style was the highest important jeans evaluative criterion with 36.2%, followed by fitness, price, color, condition of washing treatment. Women respondents considered aesthetic criteria and quality criteria more importantly than men did. Respondents who were on a high income and spent more than 200,000 won per a month on apparel more concerned aesthetic criteria and external criteria than the other respondents did. Results of this study provide a basis for understanding jeans consumers' purchase behavior and evaluative criteria.
The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship of clothing involvement and clothing buying behavior of women. A questionnaire was developed to measure clothing involvement, clothing purchasing motives, clothing purchasing criteria, fashion information sources, store selection criteria, and demographic characteristics. The questionnaire was administered to 430 female adults in Taegu. The data were analyzed using percentage, frequency, factor analysis, and t-test. The results of the study were s follows: 1. Subjects were divided into low clothing involved and high clothing involved groups. 2. Three dimensions of clothing purchasing motives were derived by factor analysis such as Aesthetic dependant, Impulsive, and Practical motive. Clothing purchasing criteria were factor analysed as Aesthetic, Qualitative, External, and Economical criterion. Fashion information sources were factor analysed as Printed & audio-visual oriented media, Marketer intensive search, Store search, Observation & Interpersonal search, and Experience. Store selection criteria were factor analyzed as Merchandise & Store atmosphere, Store convenience, and Brand & fashion. 3. There were significant differences between high involved and low involved consumers in clothing purchasing behavior. The high involved consumers showed more importance than low involved consumers about purchasing criteria expecially in aesthetic dependant. The high involved consumers put more importance to aesthetic, qualitative, and external criterion as clothing purchasing criteria. The high involved information sources. The high involved consumers were more concerned about merchandise & store atmosphere, and brand & fashion than low involved consumers in store selection criteria.
Contemporary consumers' acceptance of second-hand products has been increasingly improving worldwide, especially in China. Based on the Extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology, we developed and empirically validated a research framework to predict consumers' motivation to use re-commerce platforms. We explored the diverse factors influencing mobile commerce usage through re-commerce platforms. Furthermore, this study investigated the role of gender differences as a factor moderating the association between several constructs and the intention to use re-commerce platforms. A total of 226 consumer responses were collected. The results indicated that hedonic motivation, performance expectancy, consumer habits, social influence, and price value affect consumers' attitudes toward re-commerce platforms. The effects of the attitude toward re-commerce platforms on the intention to use these platforms were also statistically significant. When effort expectancy, hedonic motivation, and consumer habits in re-commerce platform usage increase, male consumers' attitude toward its usage, in particular, also increases. Meanwhile, when performance expectancy, hedonic motivation, and consumer habits in re-commerce platform usage increase, the attitude toward its usage increases among female consumers. Moreover, our results indicate that the two gender groups present different characteristics regarding re-commerce platform usage. Therefore, this study offers a theoretical basis for future analyses of second-hand trade.
