Relative Difficulty of Various English Writings by Fuzzy Reasoning and Its Application to Selecting Teaching Materials

  • The writing styles of TIME and Newsweek are analyzed using a specially developed linguistic program. These two news magazines were chosen because of their wide popularity. As for the results, it became obvious that both the frequency curve of words and that of characters have not changed for the past 60 years. Also, we have found that the frequency curves have some inflection points and that the genre of English writings can be identified by these points. After counting the percentage of required vocabulary for junior high school students and high school students in English writings, we can derive the relative difficulties of them using fuzzy reasoning. Fuzzy rules are constructed using features of the characteristic curves. We feel it would be a good guide index when selecting textbooks or supplementary readers.

  • Grammar has long been regarded as an important element in foreign language learning and has received a lot of attention from foreign language learners and researchers. However, in the process of learning, learners will confront an increasing number of words some of which may have multiple meanings. It is not easy for language learners to memorize and master the correct use of these words, especially in terms of pragmatics. Some learners may use the grammar correctly, but their writing or utterance may feel unnatural in discourse. In Korean, '나다, 들다' are two basic verbs, but they have many different meanings which cause a lot of confusion among learners of Korean as a foreign language. In this article, the writer attempts to make a distinction between the collocations of the two verbs '나다, 들다' and provides an effective method for teaching the learners of Korean in China.

  • The Purpose of this writing is a presentation of small turbine efficiency measuring method, applicable new technology, and several analysis result for real turbine. Measurement methods of hydraulic efficiency written in here are extracted from small turbine applicable international code(IEC, ASME). It includes brief synopsis of 'Current meter method' and 4 other methods and ASFM as a new small turbine applicable technology. And several analysis of test result are for recently performed domestic small turbine result in korea. Through this presentation of extracted code, I hope that it make other small turbine concerner be familiar to perform an efficiency test. for small turbine. And, some analysis of that, make other to feel the importance of efficiency test.

동(動)의 의미에 대한 고찰 - 사전적 의미, 문헌적 의미, 임상사례를 중심으로- (On Definition of Dong(動) based on Literal Meaning, Literature written by Todo Yoshimasu and Case Reports)

  • Objective : The purpose of study is to define the term Dong(動) in diagnosis view. Method : To define term Dong(動), I refer to Korean, Chinese, Japanese dictionary and Todo Yoshimasu (吉益東洞)'s writing, Yakucho(藥徵) Houkyoku(方極). Next, I search for the diagnosis definition of Dong(動) in 11 case reports. Results : The diagnosis definitions of Dong(動) are two meanings. One is objective symptoms which are doctor can examine, trembling, movement, etc. The other is subjective symptoms which are patient's feeling, emotional problems, etc. It seperates 6 meanings concretely. Conclusions: (1) visible moving of a focus, (2) movement of a focus, (3) appearance of abnormal secretion, (4) abnormal change of focus, (5) feel like moving, (6) change of emotion beyond patient's control. 1~4 are objective symptoms which are doctor can examine, and 5~6 are subjective symptoms which are patient's feeling.

An Analysis of Semantic Errors in Machine-Translated English Compositions by Korean EFL College Students

  • The purpose of this research is to investigate the types of semantic errors made by MT in translating EFL college students' original drafts written in Korean into English. Specifically, this study attempts to find out 1) what types of semantic errors are most frequently committed by MT? and 2) how students feel about the quality of the MT-produced output? The findings from this study indicated that MT produced the errors related to accuracy (47%) the most, followed by the errors related to fluency and ambiguity (14.6% respectively). Students were well aware of the errors with accuracy and fluency but had limited ability to check the errors with ambiguity. Based on the findings, this study suggests pedagogical implications which can be implemented in L2 writing classrooms.

동흡진기를 채용한 광 디스크 드라이브의 동적 해석 (Dynamic Analysis of an Optical Disk Drive with Dynamic Vibration Absorber)

  • In high-speed optical disk drive, the excitation caused by rotation of a mass-unbalanced disk is a major source of vibration. The vibration can be a disturbance to the servo system, which is sufficient to cause severe failures in the reading and writing process. The vibration also causes users to feel unpleasantness. The vibration reduction is therefore essential for the reliable operation of optical disk drive. One of the approaches to reduce the vibration is a dynamic vibration absorber (DVA). In this paper, we analyze the dynamic behavior of $DVD\pmRW$ combo drive system with DVA through 12_dof rigid multi-body dynamic model. The effective location and the optimal frequency ratio are obtained from the analysis.

과학전람회에 참여하는 초등학생들의 경험에 관한 현상학적 연구 (Phenomenological Study on the Elementary Students' Experience Participating in the Science Fair)

  • 본 연구에서는 질적 연구 중 현상학적 연구방법을 통하여 과학전람회에 참여하는 초등학생들의 경험과 어려움에 대한 이야기를 듣고, 학생들의 성장과 그 의미에 대한 심층적인 이해를 하고자 하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학생들은 과학전람회를 통해 다양한 경험을 한다. 학생들은 심도 있는 실험을 수행하고, 탐구 주제와 관련된 다양한 기관을 방문하고, 그 곳에서 만난 전문가와의 면담을 통해서 과학적 지식과 탐구 방법을 획득하게 된다. 학생들은 탐구 일지를 작성하며 탐구 과정을 자신의 언어로 기록하고, 탐구 과정 전반을 정리하여 많은 사람들 앞에서 발표하는 경험도 갖게 된다. 둘째, 학생들은 과학전람회를 준비하는 동안 몇 가지 어려움을 겪는 것으로 나타났다. 실험 결과가 예상했던 가설과 다르거나 일정한 경향성이 없어서 실험을 계속 반복해야할 때 어려움을 겪었다. 그리고 학생들은 탐구 일지 작성에 어려움을 느끼고 부담을 가지기도 하였다. 또 학생들은 과학전람회를 준비하는 동안 많은 시간을 투자해야 해서 교우 관계나 취미 생활에서 포기해야하는 점이 많음을 어려움으로 꼽았다. 셋째, 학생들은 과학전람회를 통해 과학적 태도가 향상되었고 정의적 측면에서도 긍정적인 영향을 받았다. 학생들은 과학적 흥미, 호기심, 협동성 등과 같은 과학적 태도를 키울 수 있었다. 그리고 성취감, 자신감, 교우관계, 교사와의 관계, 진로 관심 등 정의적 측면에서도 많은 것을 얻게 되었다. 본 연구를 통해 과학전람회에 참여하는 학생들이 일상적 과학 수업에서는 쉽게 해볼 수 없는 많은 경험을 하고, 탐구과정 중에서 어려움을 겪기도 하지만 큰 성취감과 보람을 느끼며 성장하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 과학전람회는 학생들에게 가치 있는 경험이었다.

The Inquiry of Students' Attitude towards Group Discussion and Presentation in a Course of Mathematics Education

  • This research is a survey study on students' attitude toward a class employing small group discussion and presentation by the method of free-listing. Participants in this study were students who registered in the course of Mathematical Logics and Writing during 2011 and 2014. Senior students who took the course of theory of mathematics education previously usually registered the course. The class for this course used to be designed as a class adopting group discussion and presentation. Main theme of this research is not to demonstrate some theories or hypothesis on teaching and learning, but rather to inquire students' attitude toward a class employing the constituents first and then through analyzing the results of this study to find practical ideas and strategy for design and implementation of a class which brings cultivation of students' understanding, communication and moreover writing in mathematics. Since the survey was given in the $8^{th}$ week of this class, participants of this research could be expected to have more concrete idea for positive or negative aspects of the classes employing these constituents. We compared both research results of 2011 and 2014 to view any changes in students' attitude. Research results are follows. Students began to think that group discussions and presentation bring out better learning to them. Not to give students psychological burden of discussion and presentation, instructors need to provide comfortable atmosphere through arranging suitable grouping and enough time for discussion. Moreover, simple evaluations criteria for group discussions and presentation should be well structured and more concrete guides for them are required to make students to feel comfortable and to concentrate on the given subject for discussion.

공학교육 입문설계의 운영사례 연구 (한밭대학교 중심으로) (Study on running practices of introductory design for engineering education (based on an example of Hanbat National University))

  • In this paper, we surveyed from students and professors of Hanbat National University to examine the current state of running the introductory engineering design and to derive the direction of future improvements of the subject. A total of 783 students from nine departments and 12 professors who are in charge of the introductory engineering design participated in the present questionnaire evaluation. Outcome categories of the interest in their major and the learning of design theory appears relatively lower than other learning outcomes of the introductory engineering design course. Accordingly, it is determined that the theoretical aspects of designing should be emphasized in performing a team project. The design process, writing and presentation ability, teamwork theory are dealt in more than 70% of the departments, but engineering ethics, patent, visualization education had not been addressed in a number of departments due to their department characteristics. While a lesson outcome of the creativity resulted in the largest for the students, most of the professor feel difficult in increasing the creativity. It is urgent to develope of teaching methods in order to promote the creativity in the introductory engineering design course.
