Reducing the Non Grinding Time in Grinding Operations(1st Report) -Reducing the Air Grinding time using Sound Sensor- (연삭가공에 있어 비가공 시간 단축에 관한 연구(I) -음향센서를 이용한 공연삭 시간의 단축-)

  • Air grinding time in grinding process has a great effect on its efficiency due to low feedrate. This paper presents a reduction methos of air grinding time in cylindrical plunge grinding operation. Tje reduction of air grinding time is accomplished by finding the distance between contact point and rising point of ultra- sonic signal of the grinding wheel to workpiece. It uses a variation of sound signal generated by the flow of coolant when the grinding wheel approaches to workpiece. The ultrasonic sensor with 23 kHz center fre- quency and 8 kHz bandwidth is used to find the nearest approaching point(NAP). Monitoring and control system of the grinding conditions is implemented with CNC controller to control feedrate override and ultrasonic sensor to find NAP. The experimental result shows that the ultrasonic signal is a good measure- ment to find NAP. But it needs the considerations for the effect of the relationship between flowrate of coolant and diameter of workpiece.

Adaptive Control of End Milling Machine to Improve Machining Straightness (직선도 개선을 위한 엔드밀링머시인 의 적응제어)

  • A recursive geometric adaptive control method to compensate for machining straightness error in the finished surface due to tool deflection and guideway error generated by end milling process is developed. The relationship between the tool deflection and the feedrate is modeled by a modified Taylor's tool life equation. Without a priori knowledge on the variations off cutting parameters, time varying parameters are then estimated by an exponentially windowed recursive least squares method with only post-process measurements of the straightness error. The location error is controlled by shifting the milling bed in the direction perpendicular to the finished surface and adding a certain amount of feedrate with respect to the tool deflection model before cutting. The waviness error is compensated by adjusting the feedrate during machining. Experimental results show that location error is controlled within a range of fixturing error of the bed on the guideway and that about 60% reduction in the waviness error can be achieved within a few steps of parameter adaption under wide operating ranges of cutting conditions even if the parameters do not converge to fixed values.

  • The surface roughness is one of the important parameters to evaluate the quality of products. Its level must be limited to a certain range in the precision components. This paper deals with grinding characteristics of workpieces by the wear amount of wheels in the surface grinding process. The surface roughness was measured according to the feedrate and the depth of cut with respect to the various workpieces. In addition, the wear amount of wheels according to the number of grinding pieces was obtained.

  • The continuous chip depresses the accuracy of workpieces and promotes the wear of machine tools and hunts operators. So chip control os a major problem in turning process. In this paper, a method of chip identification is develope by pyrometer. The identifier is applied in real-time control of chip pattern with adjusting feedrate.

  • Developed in this reseach is a CAM system for 5-axis NC Machining of sculpture surfaces. We identify problems in generating 5-axis NC data and propose methods of overcoming them. Issues discussed in this report are; kinematic modelling of NC machines; Determination of cutter position(location and orientation); check of machine work-range; linear trajectory planning; calculation of feedrate number. The proposed system has been implemented in FORTRAN77 on the Personal IRIS EWS, and it also consitutes a module of the CAD/CAM system 'CASSETTE' developed in KIST CAD/CAM lab..

  • Microprocessor-based software DDA interpolator is developed and applied to two axis contouring control of X-Y table. Developed assembly program is composed of feedrate, linear and circular DDA interpolation routines. Reference-pulse type of open-loop stepping motor control system in which the micro-computer produces a sequence of reference pulses for each axis of motion is adopted. To test performance of the developed program, X-Y table drive system based on stepping motor and shaft encoder is designed. Contouring error of the system in linear and circular path is within .+-.0.2 mm.

  • In order to regulate cutting force at a desired level during NC lathe process, a feedrate override Adaptive Control Constraint system was developed. Nonlinear model of the cutting process was linearized as an adaptive model with a time varing process parameter. Performance of the ACC system was confirmed on the NC lathe equipped with the developed NC system through a large amount of experiment.

  • This paper deals with an implementation of NUBS interpolator and presents the process of its integration into PC-NC. For more accurate feed, NURBS algorithm is improved. Also, Evaluation of real time NURBS interpolator is provided to verify fred accuracy and geometrical accuracy of NURBS curve. NURBS machining of fee surface is simulated on the real time NC simulator so that machining time is compared to that of linear path machining.

  • The new controller which conststs of IBM-PC/AT, SBC, servo module and motor driver has been developed for KIMMBOT II robot. The servo module which controls two axes at the same time also has beendeveloped. This module inputs relative number of pulse and feedrate via multbus, after then outputs analog command voltage with reference to feedback pulses from the encoder of a motor. This system has a great flexibility. The reduction of parts gives more reliability.
