Recent advances in the feeding and nutrition of dairy goats

  • There have been recent advances concerning research of the feeding and nutrition of dairy goats in a wide array of areas. Ruminally emitted methane and supplementary feedstuffs to a lesser extent make appreciable contributions to the carbon footprint of dairy goats, with the former affected by type of production system and associated dietary characteristics. Unique behavior of goats necessitates careful consideration of the nature of confinement facilities to achieve optimal production by animals differing in social hierarchy. Physiological conditions such as nutritional needs and perhaps health status may influence diet selection by goats in both grazing and confinement settings. Some research suggests that low concentrations of protein and fat in milk of high-yielding dairy goat breeds could involve the type and nature of dietary ingredients as influencing end products of ruminal fermentation. With the relationship between milk urea nitrogen concentration and efficiency of dietary protein utilization, through future research the measure may be a useful tool for diet formulation as in dairy cattle. Effects of dietary inclusion of sources of fats and oils vary considerably depending on their nature, as is also true for byproduct feedstuffs and conventional ones being substituted for. Supplementation of dairy goats with sources of polyunsaturated fatty acids can affect oxidative stress and various feedstuffs influence antioxidant status; however, research addressing the significance of such changes under practical production settings would be beneficial.

  • 과거 전화교환사업에 있어서 치국점을 결정하는 가장 중요한 요소는 동선로의 기술적인 성능한계였다. 즉, 전력과 신호를 동시에 공급하는 동선로가 갖는 감쇠제한과 신호제한을 극복할수 있는 위치에 전화국을 건설하여 왔다고 볼 수 있다. 그러나, 광통신 기술의 발전과, VoIP의 출현에 따라 이와 같은 제한요소들은 점차 극복되기에 이르렀고, 과거 통신사업자의 중대한 고민이었던 치국의 중요성은 점점 감소하고 있다. 특히, 신도시, u-City 개발 등을 통하여, 통신 인프라가 구축되어있지 않은 지역(본 고에서는 신규개발지역이라고 함.)의 통신망계획에 있어서, 통신사업자들은 현재의 가용한 기술을 최대한 활용하여 경제적이고도 효율적인 통신망을 구축하고자 시도하여야 할 것이다. 그럼에도, 기존의 통신 사업자가 쉽게 전화 서비스를 광통신 인프라로 전환하기 어려운 것은 VoIP 기술을 차용한 전화 서비스가 시내전화사업으로 인정받기 위해서는 긴급통신의 제공과 함께 정전시 통화기능을 필수적으로 구현하여야 한다는 점에 있다. 이에, 본 고에서는 인터넷 접속과 전화를 동시에 제공할 수 있는 대표적인 솔루션을 정형화하고, 각 모델별 전력공급방안에 관하여 고찰하고자 한다.

Assessment of the industry foodservice management practices in Seoul city area (산업체 단체급식소의 관리 개선을 위한 실태조사)

  • This study was conducted to evaluted the industry foodservice management practices, and to suggest guidelines for the effective foodservice management. The results of the study can be summarized as follows: 1) Feeding numbers among the types of industry were varied widely, and foodservice personnels were insufficient when comparing with the feeding numbers. 2) Effective recording as well as management system were not fully established in menu planning, food production, assembly and service. Thermal retention equipments were not provided to control food quality. 3) Convenience food items such as frozen beef cutlet, hambergar patty, retail cuts of meat, and canned fish were seldom used. 4) Sanitary conditions of kitchen and dining areas were evaluated as unsatisfactory comdition. 5) Equiped rate of facilities in surveyed foodservice operations were 52.7 percentage of the required standards.

  • In an electric railway feeding system, transient over-voltage often appears due to the feeder's direct lightning and induced lightning, while switching over-voltage also frequently occurs during operation of electric feeding in substation facilities. Such over-voltage is several times larger than the regular power, and accordingly leads to the dieletric breakdown of eletric power products such as invasion transformers and circuit breakers. Arresters are installed to protect these machines, while arrester counters are installed to observe the arrester's activation. This thesis aims to explore the status of an arrester counter that is being activated several thousand times, determine whether the arrester has actually been activated in relation to the counter, and investigate the over-heatedness and risks of the arrester.

  • It is a real situation that the meal service at silver towns such as the welfare facilities for the elderly is giving help in maintaining health, preventing diseases, and giving mental pleasure to the dwelling elderly people, thus the importance of meal service for housing occupants is being demanded together. This study is based on some inconvenient matters when using the meal-service facilities within the silver town targeting housing occupants at the silver town, aiming to examine which influence it can have upon the satisfaction with meal service in housing occupants. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to present a desirably developmental direction for the meal-service facilities, which can cope with diverse needs of housing occupants. To achieve the objectives of this study, it was analyzed by selecting research variables that were verified by the consideration of preceding studies.

Dietary Behavior and Nutrition Quotient (NQ) Scores According to the Weight Status of Preschool Children in Gwangju Metropolitan City (광주광역시 유아의 체중별 식행동과 영양지수)

  • This study aimed to assess the association between the weight status and dietary behavior of preschool children. The survey included 412 preschool children aged 2-5 years in 31 childcare facilities in Gwangju. General characteristics of children and their mothers, weight, height, feeding type, complementary feeding, food allergy, and dietary behavior of children based on the Nutrition Quotient for preschoolers (NQ-P) questionnaire were considered. Children were classified into 4 groups by weight status; underweight, normal, overweight, and obese, based on the 2017 Korean National Growth Charts. The percentage of children in the respective groups was 5.3, 70.9, 10.7, 13.1%. Weight status was not related to breast feeding duration nor the starting time of complementary feeding. The NQ-P scores of underweight, normal, overweight, and obese groups were 55.4, 60.0, 60.8, 60.0. Among the three factors covered by the NQ-P, 'balance' and 'environment' scores of the underweight group were lower than that of other groups. Underweight children consumed beans, fish, and white milk less frequently. The 'moderation' scores of the overweight/obese group were lower than those of the normal or obese groups. Obese children more frequently ate processed meat and fast foods. Proper nutrition education is thus needed for not only obese children but also underweight children based on their age, along with their parents, and caregivers.

A Study on Automatic Switching System for Fault Locator (고장점 표정반 자동절체 시스템에 대한 연구)

  • A directional feeding method at the railway transformer is applied for supplying the power to the electric railway substations, and the pre-installed facilities with common feeder are utilized in preparation for the failure of feeding system and in finding a fault location in case that the catenary failure occurs. However, it is some difficulty in finding the fault location since there is an interface problem with the facilities when the supplying power system operates. In this paper, Auto Fault Locator Transfer Drive System (ALTDS) is designed to search for the fault location efficiently, and the measuring data are obtained and compared with the KORAIL standards. Further, the ground connection test is accomplished 24 times as the verification method, and it is shown that the methodology provides better performance than the existing traditional one.

A Survey on the Machanization for Beef Cattle Farm in West Chung-Nam (충남 서부지역의 육우 축산 기계화 실태조사)

  • In order to advise how to solve the problems and suggest on the mechanization of beef farm, the facilities and equipment for feeding and supplying water to the animals and transporting manure, and farm machineries of sixty-seven beef cattle farms in western Chungnam Province were surveyed. The results are as follows; 1. The proportions of number of heads per farm for above 70, 50∼70, 30∼50, 10∼30 and below 10 heads were 26, 18, 29, 13 and 13, respectively. The farms with the annual income more than 30 million won are consisted of 67.6% of the farms surveyed which showed to be higher than national average. 2. Only 19% of farms had automatic feeding system. Water was supplied by water cup(45%), opening and shutting water tab(27.6%) and bucket. 3. Cattle manure was transported by manpower (46%) by loader (34%) and by gravitational flow (14%). Most of manure(97%) was composted after treatment of drying or piling up outside. 4. More instruction and education were required because of the insufficient routine checking and fixing for farming machines, and unsystematic education for learning skills. 5. 65% of farms felt unsatisfied about after service(A/S) for their machinery. The main reason why the farmers were not satisfied was that it took too much time to be repaired. 6. When the farms purchased facilities, equipment and machinery, they did not analyze economic value of them and keep a diary. To make effective use of machines, the most available model for purchasing and managing of machines must be developed and applied to various scales of management.

THE EFFECTS OF OPERATIONAL AND FINANCIAL FACTORS ON THE ECONOMICS OF BIOGAS PRODUCTION FROM DAIRY COW FECES AND WASTEWATER

  • Biogas created from animal waste is a precious energy source. A practical and successful utilization of the biogas is not easy, because there lie some difficulties in biogas production and facilities investment. In this study, the requisites for a successful biogas utilization were discussed. The production results obtained in the previous operation of anaerobic digestion plant were used for the simulation. When the slurry heating was designed for constant biogas generation, depreciation costs of the facilities amounted 1,175,000 yen per year, and biogas productions at $24.5^{\circ}C$, $30.0^{\circ}C$ and $35.5^{\circ}C$ were $16.8m^3$, $17.6m^3$ and $25.1m^3$, respectively. Removal ratios of organic matters were not so high. At $35.5^{\circ}C$, energy value of the biogas produced was estimated 125.5 Mcal per day, and the following heat loss (y Mcal/day) was brought about by the temperature difference ($X^{\circ}C$) between the digester and atmosphere; y = 0.769X - 5.375. The costs of biogas production per cow were assumed to decrease according to enlargement of feeding scale, especially on scales of more than 30 cows. On recent levels of costs and prices of energy in Japan, they were nearly equal to 2 to 3 fold of the price of municipal mixed gas when a anaerobic digester was compulsorily heated and kept at $30.0^{\circ}C$ or $35.5^{\circ}C$.

A Survey on the Utilization University Food Service by Student in Daejeon City (대전지역 대학생들의 대학급식소 이용실태 조사)

  • Questionnaire survey was done on the utilization status of college feeding facilities by students. Three hundred and nine students from three universities in Daejeon city, Korea participated in this survey. The results were summarized as followings. 1. Students who had experience of utilizing college feeding facilities were totalled to two hundred and ninety six. Among them 87.50% students were utilizing for lunch. Female students utilization ratio for lunch was 17.94% higher than male. College B students showed specially low utilization ratio. 2. Utilization frequency ratio of once per day was the highest as 30.72%. College C showed the highest utilization ratio. 3. Students utilized the campus food services most frequently as 47.97%, the restaurant outside campus the next and snack corner in the campus the last. 4. Reasons for the utilization were listed as low price, time saving, near place and no other place to eat. 5. Reasons for the not utilization were indicated as tasteless, simple menu and noisy and crowded. 6. Recommendations for the improvements of' college feeding facilities can be summarized to emphasize on taste, menu variation, sanitation, price decrease and comfortable atmosphere.
