  • Visual tracking of selected target objects is fundamental challenging problems in computer vision. Object tracking localize the region of target object with bounding box in the video. We propose a Siam-FPN based custom fully CNN to solve visual tracking problems by regressing the target area in an end-to-end manner. A method of preserving the feature information flow using a feature map connection structure was applied. In this way, information is preserved and emphasized across the network. To regress object region and to classify object, the region proposal network was connected with the Siamese network. The performance of the tracking algorithm was evaluated using the OTB-100 dataset. Success Plot and Precision Plot were used as evaluation matrix. As a result of the experiment, 0.621 in Success Plot and 0.838 in Precision Plot were achieved.

  • Bag of visual words is a popular model in human action recognition, but usually suffers from loss of spatial and temporal configuration information of local features, and large quantization error in its feature coding procedure. In this paper, to overcome the two deficiencies, we combine sparse coding with spatio-temporal pyramid for human action recognition, and regard this method as the baseline. More importantly, which is also the focus of this paper, we find that there is a hierarchical structure in feature vector constructed by the baseline method. To exploit the hierarchical structure information for better recognition accuracy, we propose a tree regularized classifier to convey the hierarchical structure information. The main contributions of this paper can be summarized as: first, we introduce a tree regularized classifier to encode the hierarchical structure information in feature vector for human action recognition. Second, we present an optimization algorithm to learn the parameters of the proposed classifier. Third, the performance of the proposed classifier is evaluated on YouTube, Hollywood2, and UCF50 datasets, the experimental results show that the proposed tree regularized classifier obtains better performance than SVM and other popular classifiers, and achieves promising results on the three datasets.

  • Visual object tracking is a fundamental problem in the field of computer vision, as it needs a proper model to account for drastic appearance changes that are caused by shape, textural, and illumination variations. In this paper, we propose a feature-based visual-object-tracking method with a sparse representation. Generally, most appearance-based models use the gray-scale pixel values of the input image, but this might be insufficient for a description of the target object under a variety of conditions. To obtain the proper information regarding the target object, the following combination of features has been exploited as a corresponding representation: First, the features of the target templates are extracted by using the HOG (histogram of gradient) and LBPs (local binary patterns); secondly, a feature-based sparsity is attained by solving the minimization problems, whereby the target object is represented by the selection of the minimum reconstruction error. The strengths of both features are exploited to enhance the overall performance of the tracker; furthermore, the proposed method is integrated with the particle-filter framework and achieves a promising result in terms of challenging tracking videos.

  • This paper presents a feature selection technique based on distributional differences for efficient machine learning. Initial training data consists of data including many features and a target value. We classified them into positive and negative data based on the target value. We then divided the range of the feature values into 10 intervals and calculated the distribution of the intervals in each positive and negative data. Then, we selected the features and the intervals of the features for which the distributional differences are over a certain threshold. Using the selected intervals and features, we could obtain the reduced training data. In the experiments, we will show that the reduced training data can reduce the training time of the neural network by about 40%, and we can obtain more profit on simulated stock trading using the trained functions as well.

  • Visual Object Tracking is known as the most fundamental problem in the field of computer vision. Object tracking localize the region of target object with bounding box in the video. In this paper, a custom CNN is created to extract object feature that has strong and various information. This network was constructed as a Siamese network for use as a feature extractor. The input images are passed convolution block composed of a bottleneck layers, and features are emphasized. The feature map of the target object and the search area, extracted from the Siamese network, was input as a local proposal network. Estimate the object area using the feature map. The performance of the tracking algorithm was evaluated using the OTB2013 dataset. Success Plot and Precision Plot were used as evaluation matrix. As a result of the experiment, 0.611 in Success Plot and 0.831 in Precision Plot were achieved.

  • Detecting target objects robustly in natural environments is a difficult problem in the computer vision and image processing areas. This paper suggests a method of robustly detecting target objects in the environments where reflection exists. The suggested algorithm first captures scenes with a stereo camera and extracts the line and corner features representing the target objects. This method then eliminates the reflected features among the extracted ones using a homographic transform. Subsequently, the method robustly detects the target objects by clustering only real features. The experimental results showed that the suggested algorithm effectively detects the target objects in reflection environments rather than existing algorithms.

  • In order to improve the accuracy of small target detection more effectively, this paper proposes an improved single shot detector (SSD) target detection and recognition method based on cspdarknet53, which introduces lightweight ECA attention mechanism and Feature Pyramid Network (FPN). First, the original SSD backbone network is replaced with cspdarknet53 to enhance the learning ability of the network. Then, a lightweight ECA attention mechanism is added to the basic convolution block to optimize the network. Finally, FPN is used to gradually fuse the multi-scale feature maps used for detection in the SSD from the deep to the shallow layers of the network to improve the positioning accuracy and classification accuracy of the network. Experiments show that the proposed target detection algorithm has better detection accuracy, and it improves the detection accuracy especially for small targets.

  • Since the existing methods of segmenting target objects from various images mainly use 2-dimensional features, they have several constraints due to the shortage of 3-dimensional information. In this paper, we therefore propose a new method of accurately segmenting target objects from three dimensional stereoscopic images using 2D and 3D feature clustering. The suggested method first estimates depth features from stereo images by using a stereo matching technique, which represent the distance between a camera and an object from left and right images. It then eliminates background areas and detects foreground areas, namely, target objects by effectively clustering depth and color features. To verify the performance of the proposed method, we have applied our approach to various stereoscopic images and found that it can accurately detect target objects compared to other existing 2-dimensional methods.

  • This paper proposes the method of image cartooning, that makes cartoon-like images of a target, using reference images. We deform a target image using pre-defined reference images. For this deformation, we extract feature points from the target image by Active Appearance Model(AAM) and apply the warping method to the target using feature points of target and feature points of reference image as a basis of warping function. We create simplified cartoon-like images by abstraction of the deformed target image and drawing of edges and quantization of luminance of the abstracted image. Two main concept of cartoon(exaggeration and simplification) is inhered in this method when we use a exaggerated cartoon image as a reference image. It is possible for this method to create various results by control of warping and change of reference image.
