  • Real-time monitoring of the behavior of reinforced soil retaining wall (RSW) is required for safety checks. In this study, a targetless displacement measurement technology (TDMT) consisting of an image registration module and a displacement calculation module was proposed to monitor the behavior of RSW, in which facing displacement and settlement typically occur. Laboratory and field experiments were conducted to compare the measuring performance of natural target (NT) with the performance of artificial target (AT). Feature count- and location-based performance metrics and displacement calculation performance were analyzed to determine their correlations. The results of laboratory and field experiments showed that the feature location-based performance metric was more relevant to the displacement calculation performance than the feature count-based performance metric. The mean relative errors of the TDMT were less than 1.69 % and 5.50 % for the laboratory and field experiments, respectively. The proposed TDMT can accurately monitor the behavior of RSW for real-time safety checks.

  • This paper presents a new small target detection method using scale invariant feature. Detecting small targets whose sizes are varying is very important to automatic target detection. Scale invariant feature using the Laplacian scale-space can detect different sizes of targets robustly compared to the conventional spatial filtering methods with fixed kernel size. Additionally, scale-reflected adaptive thresholding can reduce many false alarms. Experimental results with real IR images show the robustness of the proposed target detection in real world.

  • A new automatic small target detection and tracking algorithm for the real-time IR surveillance system is presented. The automatic target detection and tracking algorithm of the real-time systems, requires low complexity and robust tracking performance in the cluttered environment. Linear-array and parallel-scan IR systems usually suffer from severe scan noise caused by the detector non-uniformity. After the spatial filtering and thresholding, this scan noise still remains as high amplitude clutter which degrades the target detection rate and tracking performance. In this paper, we propose a new feature which consists of area and validity information of a measurement. By adopting this feature to the measurements selection and track confirmation, we can increase the target detection rate and reduce both the track loss rate and false track rate. From the experimental results, we can validate the feasibility of the proposed method in the noisy IR images.

  • Various approaches to process active sonar signals are under study, but there are many problems to be considered. The sonar signals are distorted by the underwater environment, and the spatio-temporal and spectral characteristics of active sonar signals change in accordance with the aspect of the target even though they come from the same one. And it has difficulties in collecting actual underwater data. In this paper, we synthesized active target echoes based on ray tracing algorithm using target model having 3-dimensional highlight distribution. Then, Fractional Fourier transform was applied to synthesized target echoes to extract feature vector. Recognition experiment was performed using probabilistic neural network classifier.

  • In this paper, an effective feature which is capable of classifying targets among the detections obtained from 2D range-bearing maps generated in active sonar environments is proposed. Most conventional approaches for target classification with the 2D maps have considered magnitude of peak and statistical features of the area surrounding the peak. To improve the classification performance, HOG(Histogram of Gradient) feature, which is popular for their robustness in the image textures analysis is applied. In order to classify the target signal, SVM(Support Vector Machine) method with reduced HOG feature by the PCA(Principal Component Analysis) algorithm is incorporated. The various simulations are conducted with the real clutter signal data and the synthesized target signal data. According to the simulated results, the proposed method considering HOG feature is claimed to be effective when classifying the active sonar target compared to the conventional methods.

  • The opinion of user on a certain product is expressed in positive/negative sentiments for specific features of it. In some cases, they are expressed for a holistic part of homogeneous specific features, or expressed for product itself. Therefore, in the area of opinion mining, name of opinion features to be extracted are specific feature names, holonyms for theses specific features, and product names. However, when the opinion target is described with product name or holonym, sometimes it may not match feature name of opinion sentence to true opinion target intended by the reviewer. In this paper, we present a method to extract opinion targets from opinion sentences. Most importantly, we propose a method to extract true target from the feature names mismatched to a intended target. First, we extract candidate opinion pairs using dependency relation between words, and then select feature names frequently mismatched to opinion target. Each selected opinion feature name is replaced to a specific feature intended by the reviewer. Finally, in order to extract relevant opinion features from the whole candidate opinion pairs including modified opinion feature names, candidate opinion pairs are rearranged by the order of user's interest.

  • Acoustic target classification in wireless sensor network is important research at environmental surveillance, invasion surveillance, multiple target separation. General sensor node signal processing methods concentrated on received signal energy based target detection and received raw signal compression. The former is not suited to target classification because of almost every target information are lost except target energy. The latter bring down life-time of sensor node owing to high computational complexity and transmission energy. In this paper, we introduce an feature extraction algorithm for acoustic target classification in wireless sensor network which has time and frequency information. The proposed method extracts time information and de-noised target classification information using wavelet decomposition step. This method reduces communication energy by 28% of original signal and computational complexity.

  • In real system application, the propeller shaft rate (PSR) estimation algorithm for the feature extraction of the sonar target operates with the following problems: it requires both accurate and efficient the fundamental finding method because it is essential and difficult to distinguish harmonic family composed of the fundamental and its harmonics from the multiple spectral lines in the frequency spectrum-based sonar target classification, and further, it requires an easy design procedure in terms of its structures and parameters. To solve these problems, an evolutionary PSR estimation algorithm using an expert knowledge and the evolution strategy, is proposed. To verify the performance of the proposed algorithm, a sonar target PSR estimation is performed. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm effectively solves the problems in the realtime system application.

  • stereo vision system is applied to a mobile manipulator for effective tasks. The robot can recognize a target and compute the position of the target using a stereo vision system. In this paper we persent a visual approach to the problem of object grasping. First we propose object recognization method which can find the object position and pose using feature points. A robot recognizes the feature point to Object. So a number of feature point is the more, the better, but if it is overly many, the robot have to process many data, it makes real-time image processing ability weakly. In other to avoid this problem, the robot selects only two point and recognize the object by line made by two points. Second we propose trajectory planing of the robot manipulator. Using grometry of between object and gripper, robot can find a goal point to translate the robot manipulator, and then it can grip the object successfully.

  • A classification task requires an exponentially growing amount of computation time and number of observations as the variable dimensionality increases. Thus, reducing the dimensionality of the data is essential when the number of observations is limited. Often, dimensionality reduction or feature selection leads to better classification performance than using the whole number of features. In this paper, we study the possibility of utilizing the Markov blanket discovery algorithm as a new feature selection method. The Markov blanket of a target variable is the minimal variable set for explaining the target variable on the basis of conditional independence of all the variables to be connected in a Bayesian network. We apply several Markov blanket discovery algorithms to some high-dimensional categorical and continuous data sets, and compare their classification performance with other feature selection methods using well-known classifiers.
