The large AC generator fault may lead to large impacts or perturbations in power system. The generator protection control systems in Korea have been imported and operated through a turn-key from overseas entirely. Therefore a study of the generator protection field has in urgent need for a stable operation of the imported goods. In present, the algorithm using the current ratio differential relaying based DFT for stator winding protection or a fault detection had been applied that of internal fault protection of a generator. the DFT used for the analysis of transient state signal conventionally had defects losing a time information in the course of transforming a target signal to frequency domain. In this paper, the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) was applied a fault detection of the generator being superior to a transient state signal analysis and being easy to real time realization. The fault signals after executing a terminal fault modeling collect using a MATLAB package, and calculate the wavelet coefficients through the process of a muiti-level decomposition (MLD). The proposed algorithm for a fault detection using the Daubechies WT (wavelet transform) was executed with a C language and the commend line function for the real time realization after analyzing MATLAB's graphical interface. The advanced technique had improved faster a speed of fault discrimination than a conventional DFR based on DFT.
A new fault location algorithm based on stationary wavelet transform and its verification experiment results are described for HVDC submarine cables in this paper. For wavelet based fault location algorithm, firstly, 4th level approximation coefficients decomposed by wavelet transform function are superimposed by correlation, then the distance to the fault point is calculated by time delay between the first incident signal and the second reflected signal. For the verification of this algorithm, the real experiments based on various fault conditions and return types of fault current are performed at HVDC submarine cable test yard located in KEPCO(Korea Electric Power Corporation) Power Testing Center of South Korea. It proves that the fault location method proposed in this paper is very simple but very quick and accurate for HVDC submarine cable fault location.
The current boost type atatic excitation system for synchronous generator that can sustain prope output voltage level even at fault condition is proposed. The proposed excitation system is capabl of supplying level 60% of the rated voltage. The proposed system is verified and tested using computer simulations as well as load tests. The load tests are performed with a 5KVA synchronous generator driven by a ac motor. The actual tests results indicated a good performance.
In this paper, we analyze experimental results by applying the PHILS model to a lab-scale superconducting current limiter system for its actual application in medium-voltage direct current (MVDC) systems. Superconducting current limiters exhibit effective current-limiting performance in circuit breaker operations, particularly in limiting large fault currents within a short period, addressing the challenges posed by the increasing use of renewable energy and the integration of DC medium-voltage distribution systems. The development of such superconducting current limiters faces various technical and cost disadvantages, especially when applying a medium-voltage 35kV level system, which is intended for future introduction. The proven lab-scale superconducting current limiter system and the PHILS model are combined and integrated into the actual system. Our plan involves analyzing the limiter's performance, assessing its impact on the system, and preparing for its application in future medium-voltage systems. Utilizing RTDS, a simulation was conducted by connecting actual scaled-down equipment and systems, with the analysis results presented.

An image of future power system which has introduced superconducting generator, cable, transformer, fault current limiter, SMES and so on is presented. Conceptual designs of each SC machines and devices are carried out. The SC cable and SFCL utilize the high Tc superconductor(HTS) cooled by liquid $N_2$Other devices use low temperature superconducting cooled by He. The SC power system models are proposed detailedly. In viewpoint of the operation and control SC power system, The concrete design direction and effective role of each SC apparatus are investigated. In this paper, it is pointed that superconducting fault limiters(SFCLs) should play an important part of the quenching current level coordination to prevent the other SC devices from quenching. Finially, SFCL are also expected to he very effective to introduce flexibility of power system configuration and operation due to their possibility to enhance transient stability and reduce short circuit current.
A seismic margin assessment evaluates how much margin exists for the system under beyond design basis earthquake events. Specifically, the seismic margin for the entire system is evaluated by utilizing a systems analysis based on the sub-system and component seismic fragility data. Each seismic fragility curve is obtained by using empirical, experimental, and/or numerical simulation data. The systems analysis is generally performed by employing a fault tree analysis. However, the current practice has clear limitations in that it cannot deal with the uncertainties of basic components and accommodate the newly observed data. Therefore, in this paper, we present a Bayesian-based seismic margin assessment that is conducted using seismic fragility data and fault tree analysis including Bayesian inference. This proposed approach is first applied to the pooltype nuclear research reactor system for the quantitative evaluation of the seismic margin. The results show that the applied approach can allow updating by considering the newly available data/information at any level of the fault tree, and can identify critical scenarios modified due to new information. Also, given the seismic hazard information, this approach is further extended to the real-time risk evaluation. Thus, the proposed approach can finally be expected to solve the fundamental restrictions of the current method.
Design & operation power systems for meeting increase of electric power demand is becoming more difficult and complex. Some of limitations of conventional technology can be broken through by the application of superconductivity technology. This paper presents a new concept & image for the configuration of superconducting power system which has introduced superconducting(SC) generator, cable, transformer, fault current limiter(SFCL), SMES, etc. Engineering evaluation of each power apparatus and its assessment of application to power system were conducted. Futhermore, it is pointed that superconducting power system require a new operating condition. This is, SFCL should play a important part of quenching current level coordination to prevent the other superconducting devices from quenching. Its designing & operating condition including SFCL was discussed in viewpoint of quenching current level and insulation coordination of SC coil.
This paper present the design of a novel neural-network (NN) based pulse-width modulation (PWM) techniques for a three-level power converter of electric trains along with nonlinear mapping of essential switching patterns and fault tolerance, which are inherent characteristics of NNs. Considering the importance of safety, power factor and harmonics of electric train power converters, two-level type and three-level type of power converters using NNs are precisely investigated and compared in computer simulation. A computer simulation shows that a new current control scheme provides an improved performance over a fixed-band hysteresis current control in many aspects.

A generator plays an important role in transferring an electric power to power system networks. The generator protection systems in Korea have been imported and operated through a tum-key from overseas entirely. Therefore, a study of the generator protection field has in urgent need for a stable operation of the imported goods, and for preparation of next generation protection system. The paper describes the fault detection algorithm using WT(Wave!et Transform) of currents for a generator protection. The fault current signals after executing a terminal fault modeling collect using a MA TLAB package, and calculate the wavelet coefficients through the process of a multi -level decomposition (MLD). The proposed algorithm for a fault detection using the Daubechies WT (wavelet transform) was executed with a C language for the command line function and for the real time realization after analyzing MATLAB's graphical interface. The advanced technique had complemented the defects of a DFT by applying a Daubechies WT. and had improved faster a speed and more accurate of fault discriminant than a conventional DFR.
Buckling-restrained braces are passive control devices with high level of energy dissipation ability. However, they suffer from low post-yield stiffness which makes them vulnerable to severe ground motions, especially near-field earthquakes. Among the several methods proposed to improve resistance of BRB frames, mega-brace configuration can be a solution to increase frame lateral strength and stiffness and improve distribution of forces to prevent large displacement in braces. Due to the limited number of research regarding the performance of such systems, the current paper aims to assess seismic performance of BRB frames with mega-bracing arrangement under near-field earthquakes via a detailed probabilistic framework. For this purpose, a group of multi-story mega-BRB frames were modelled by OpenSEES software platform. In the first part of the paper, simplified procedures including nonlinear pushover and Incremental Dynamic Analysis were conducted for performance evaluation. Two groups of near-fault seismic ground motions (Non-pulse and Pulse-like records) were considered for analyses to take into account the effects of record-to-record uncertainties, as well as forward directivity on the results. In the second part, seismic reliability analyses are conducted in the context of performance based earthquake engineering. Two widely-known EDP-based and IM-based probabilistic frameworks are employed to estimate collapse potential of the structures. Results show that all the structures can successfully tolerate near-field earthquakes with a high level of confidence level. Therefore, mega-bracing configuration can be an effective alternative to conventional BRB bracing to withstand near-field earthquakes.
