This study was carried out to investigate the effects of various dietary lipid sources on the growth performance, body composition, and fatty acid profiles of juvenile fancy carp (Cyprinus carpio var. koi). Three replicate groups of fish (initial mean body weight, 15.1±0.18 g) were fed one of five experimental diets containing fish oil (SLO), soybean oil (SO), linseed oil (LO), lard (LA), or a mixture of SLO, SO, and LO (Mix) for 8 weeks. Fish fed the LA diet gained less weight than did fish fed the LO diet. The feed efficiency and protein efficiency ratio of fish fed the LA and Mix diets were lower than those of fish fed the SO and LO diets. The body lipid content of fish fed the SO diet was lower than those of the other groups. Whole-body fatty acid compositions reflected the fatty acid compositions of dietary lipid sources. Fish fed the SO diet had high concentrations of linoleic acid and arachidonic acid, whereas fish fed the LO diet were rich in linolenic acid. Fish fed the SLO diet had significantly higher levels of eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid compared with fish fed the SO, LO, and LA diets. The results of this study suggest that SO or LO could be used as a replacement for SLO in the diets of juvenile fancy carp without any negative effects on growth and feed utilization when the dietary essential fatty acid requirements are satisfied for juvenile fancy carp.

The present study was designed to analyze the lipid and fatty acid compositions of ark shell, Anadara broughtonii. The crude lipid was extracted by Bligh and Dyer's method, and then fractionated by TLC and quantitatively analyzed by TLC scanner. Lipid extracted from ark shell was fractionated into neutral and polar lipid by column chromatography with silicic acid. The fatty acid composition of lipid fractions were determined by gas liquid chromatography. Total lipid content of ark shell was 0.83% base on wet weight. The content of unsaponifiable matter was 20.19%, and iodine value was 156.13. The main components of total lipids were triglyceride, diglyceride, hydrocarbon, and sterol ester. The fatty acid composition of total lipid chiefly consisted of $C_{17 : 0}$, $C_{16 : 0}$, $C_{18 : 1}$ and $CT_{16 : 1}$. The main fatty acids of neutral lipid were $C_{16 : 0}$, $C_{18 : 1}$, $C_{22 : 1}$, $C_{18 : 0}$ and $C_{16 : 1}$. The major fatty acids of polar lipid were $C_{16 : 0}$, $C_{18 : 2}$, $C_{20 : 5}$ and $C_{22 : 6}$. In total lipid fractionation, saturated acid contents were high in all (SA>MA> PA), in neutral lipid fractionation, menoenoic acid contents were high in all (MA > SA> PA), and in polar lipid fractionation, saturated acid con-tents were high in all (SA> PA> MA).

Eicosanoids are a group of C20 oxygenated polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). To monitor biosynthetic precursors of these PUFAs, this study extracted fatty acids from different tissues of the beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua, and assessed their compositions using GC/MS. Fifth instar larvae were dissected to isolate different tissues of gut, fat body, hemocytes, and integument. From each tissue, total lipids were extracted and fractionated into neutral lipid (NL), glycolipid (GL), and phospholipid (PL). Most tissues contained palmitic acid (16:0), stearic acid (18:0), oleic acid (18:1), linoleic acid (18:2), and linolenic acid (18:3). However, their compositions were different among tissues and lipid types. Fat body and hemocytes possessed other type of fatty acids such as myristic acid (14:0) and three unknown fatty acids. Among lipid types, PL contained relatively high levels of linolenic acid than NL and GL, while it had lower saturated fatty acids. Total unsaturated fatty acid composition was varied among tissues and lipid types. PL was rich in unsaturated fatty acids in fat body, gut, and hemocytes. There was a significant influence of calcium-independent phospholipase $A_2$ ($iPLA_2$) on maintaining fatty acid composition because RNA interference of $iPLA_2$ expression significantly modified fatty acid compositions in NL and PL. However, this study did not detect arachidonic acid, a main eicosanoid biosynthesis precursor, in all tissues. This suggests an alternative biosynthesis of eicosanoids in insects, which is distinct from the biosynthetic pathway of mammals.

An attempt was made to investigate the chemical compositions of the three plant types such as runner type(Yeoju landrace), semi-Spanish type(Suweon 15ho) and Spanish type(Wasedairu) of peanut. The proximate compositions were lipid 44.25~46.48% and protein 22.54~25.42% in various plant types of peanut, respectively. And the contents of purified free and bond lipids were 43.71~45.44% and 1.74~3.12%, respectively. The predominant fatty acids were oleic, linoleic, palmitic and arachidic acid in the free lipid, and linoleic, oleic and palmitic acid in t도 bond lipid. Pattern of 16 amino acid compositions in three plant types of peanut was shown to be similarity. Major amino acid were glutamic acid(75.30~104.66mg/g), arginine(57.30~74.27mg/g), aspartic acid(41.44~63.05mg/g) and leucine(30.80~39.00mg/g). The richest mineral contained in three plant types of peanut was noticed to be K and followed by Mg, Ca and Na. The lead content was below the authorized tolerance limits.
Aspergillus niger var. macrospours, Aspergillus fumigatus, Penicillium notatum and Penicillium spinulosum were cultured under different cultural conditions. The lipids produced by these species and fatty acid compositions of lipids were investigated. The macimum lipid contents produced by each species were 17.8% for Asp. niger var. macrosporus, 31% for Asp. fumigatus, 12.6% for P. notatum and 17.5% for P. spinulosum, respectively. The major fatty acid compositions were palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid and linoleic acid. Asp. niger var. macrosporus and Asp. fumigatus were highest oleic acid during all incubation periods and P. notatum and P. spinulsum were linoleic acid. Degree of unsaturation was higher Penicillium than Aspergillus. The fatty acid compositions were changed depending on the incubation temperature, but hardly showed a certain tendency except linoleic acid and degree of unsaturation that were higher at lower temperature.

In order to investigate polar lipid ingredients and fat쇼 acid compositions in corn embryo, lipids were extracted with n-hexane (HX), pet. ether (PE), chloroform-methanol (2:1, v/v) (CM), dichoromethane-methanol (2:1, v/v DM) and hexane-diethyl ether (5:1, v/v HD). Of the glycolipid in polar lipids were separated by thin layer chormatogarphy (TLC), monoglycosyl diacyglycerol was most efficient with CM, HD, and monoglycosy sterol and monoglycosyl ceramide were similar to five solvents, but HX, PE and DM, HD were somewhat superior, respectively. Of the phospholipid, phosphatidyl inositol was most efficient with CM, DM, and phosphatidyl choline was similar to five solvents as well. Phosphatidyl serine was superior PE, HD, CM to HX, and phosphatidyl ethanolamine was inferior CM to HX. The major fatty acid in the glycolipid was linoleic acid, and it was most efficient with CM the same as plamitic acid, but oleic acid was superior in using HX, PE. The major fatty acids in the phospholipid were palmitic, heptadecanoic aicds, and they were superior in using HX and PE, respectively. Also oleic acid was most efficient with HX and CM, but HD was somewhat inferior.
Changes in lipid content, lipid class and fatty acid compositions of the cultured oysters in shallow-water, Bukman bay (Tongyeong, Korea), using both Korean and Japanese spats were investigated. The content of non-polar lipid (NL) comprised approximately $60- 80\%$ of total lipid (TL) in the cultured oysters. There was a positive correlation between NL content and meat weight, y=0.287lx-15.309 (r=0.834l, p<0.001). The prominent fatty acids of the oysters were 16:0, 20:5n-3 (eicosapentaenoic acid, EPA), 22:6n-3 (docosahexaenoic acid, DHA), 18:0, l8:1n-7, l8:1n-9, l6:1n-7, 14:0 and l6:4n-3. During the growth of the oysters, l6:4n-3 showed the highest coefficient of variation, accounting for $41.8\%$ for the Korean oyster and $32.3\%$ for the Japanese one, respectively. Both oysters showed low level of n-3 fatty acids such as DHA and EPA and high level of n-6 fatty acid, 20:4n-6, in the spawning period (August). During growth of the oysters, both EPA and DHA were the richest fatty acids in the harvest period (December, 314 mg/100g sample) and in the pre-spawning period (July, 237-247 mg/100g sample), respectively. Consequently, the cultured oyster with Japanese spat contained approximately two times more n-3 fatty acids per oyster individual than those with Korean one in the harvest season.
Lipid contents and fatty acid compositions of 16 kind sea algaes in the southern sea coast of Korea were analyzed to evaluate nutrient significance of total polyene, n-3 polyenes and n-6 polyene fatty acids. Total lipid contents were 0.58 ∼ 3.00% in 9 kinds of brown algaes, 0.47 ∼ 2.16% in 5 kinds of red algaes and 0.55 ∼2..99% in 2 kinds of green algeas. N-3 polyenes and n-6 polyenes of the fatty acid compositions were 1.46∼25.67% and 0∼48.51% in the brown algaes, 1.17∼21.91% and 0.28 ∼29.35% in the red algaes, and 3.67%∼ 10.61% and 4.10 ∼ 8.66% in the green algaes, respectirely. The fatty acid contents and compositions of n-3 polyenes and n-6 polyenes, monoenes and saturates were vary different in the algae groups and sepecies.
In the present study, proximate compostions, fatty acid and amino acid compositions of wild and cultivated Dodok (Codonopsis laceolata B. et H.) were analysed. The contents of crude ash and crude protein were higher in the cultivated Dodok than in the wild Dodok. The main fatty acids in the total lipid, free lipid and bound lipid of wild and cultivated Dodok were linoleic acid, palmitic acid and followed by linolenic acid. In the case of wild Dodok, numerous unknown peaks were appeared significantly. The amino acids analyzed in wild aid cultivated Dodok were lysine, histidine, arginine, aspartic acid, threonine, serine, glutamic acid, proline, glycine, alanine, valine, methionine, isoleucine, leucine, tyrosine and phenylalanine. Arginine was the predominant amino acid in both wild and cultivated Dodok.
