  • The general non-destructive inspection method for anchor bolts in Korea applies visual inspection and hammering inspection, but it is difficult to check corrosion or fatigue cracks of anchor bolts in the part included in the foundation or in the part where the nut and base plate are installed. In reality, objective investigation is difficult because inspection is affected by the surrounding environment and individual differences, so it is necessary to develop non-destructive inspection technology that can quantitatively estimate these defects. Inspection of the anchor bolts of domestic road facilities is carried out by visual inspection, and since the importance of anchor bolts such as bridge bearings and fall prevention facilities is high, the life span of bridges is extended through preventive maintenance by developing non-destructive testing technology along with existing inspection methods. Through the development of this technology, non-destructive testing of anchor bolts is performed and as a technology capable of preemptive/active maintenance of anchor bolts for road facilities, practical use is urgently needed. In this paper, the possibility of detecting defects in anchor bolts such as corrosion and cracks and reliability were experimentally verified by applying the ultrasonic test among non-destructive inspection techniques. When the technology development is completed, it is expected that it will be possible to realize preemptive/active maintenance of anchor bolts by securing source technology for improving inspection reliability.

  • The considerations for remaining life of ACSR (Aluminum Stranded Conductors Steel Reinforced) in transmission lines have become gradually important to hold reliability and stability of power supply. The remaining life of ACSR exposed to the atmosphere for a long period may rely on deterioration caused by environmental indices such as atmospheric corrosion, galvanic corrosion, crevice corrosion and fatigue corrosion. One of reduction of useful life in overhead transmission lines built on the ridge of mountain is often caused by forest fires. This paper deals with investigation of strength deterioration performance of ASCR due to fires through several testing and analyzing data for tension load and extension of blazed ACSR. Test samples are ACSR 480[$\textrm{mm}^2$] conductors, which are artificially fired to regular durations. Mechanical properties such as tension load and extension for fired ACSR conductors are tested and estimation functions for mechanical performances corresponding to fire duration are determined. As a result, it can be verified that both tension load and extension of ACSR are reduced by increasing fire duration. Hence, it is obvious that ACSR due to forest fires may lead to mechanical deterioration.

  • Vibrating test of vehicle component can be possible in lab-based simulators instead of field testing owing to the development of technology in control algorithm as well as computational process. Currently, Multi-Axial Simulation Table(MAST) is recommended as a vibrating equipment, which excites a target component for 3-directional translation and rotation motion simultaneously and hence, vibrational condition can be fully approximated to that of real road test. But, the vibration-free performance of target component is not guaranteed with MAST system, which is only simulator subjective to the operator. Rather, the reliability of multi-axial vibration test is dependent on the quality of input profile which should cover the required severity of vibrating condition on target component. In this paper, multi-axial vibration testing methodology of vehicle component is presented here, from data acquisition of vehicle accelerations to the obtaining the input profile of MAST using severe data at proving ground. To compare the severity of vibration condition, between real road test and proving ground one, energy principle of equivalent damage is proposed to calculate energy matrices of acceleration data and then, it is determined the optimal combination of special events on proving ground which is equivalent to real road test at the aspects of vibration fatigue using sequential searching optimal algorithm. To explain the vibration methodology clearly, seat and door component of vehicle are selected as a example.

  • Since the demand for new military vehicle to fulfill the necessary conditions such as multi-purpose, high-mobility, and survivability has raised continuously from the army, the prototype of a Korean light tactical vehicle was developed to meet these requirements using our own technology. In particular, the new tactical vehicle was equipped with a double wishbone independent suspension to improve ride and handling and maximize off-road driving performance. In this paper, a comprehensive virtual durability process to evaluate the service life of the prototype is presented. A reliability of the trimmed body model based on CATIA data was verified by comparison result between mode analysis and modal test. The dynamic model was constructed using ADAMS/Car, and then the weight distribution and lateral slope driving performance of it were compared with the results of static weight and lateral slope tests. The validity of the VTL(Virtual Test Lab) was checked with test results from the 3-inch spaced impact road. The durability performances of trimmed body and suspension components were evaluated through MSM(Modal Superposition Method) fatigue analysis. It is shown that the virtual durability process could be a helpful tool to find out the weak areas and improve their structures in developing new military vehicle.

  • This study deals with current use of e-books through a survey of e-book audiences and a diagnosis of the development perspective of e-book audiences. In addition, we present some effective methods to promote e-books in the future. The study shows that e-book users have increased. However, e-books are not well-known to the audience. Mainly, audiences use free web sites; consequently, the use of e-books is not well-promoted. Whether people have used e-books is statistically significant in the pattern of their use and e-book audiences prospect that the future of e-books is brighter than paper books. However, people who have used e-books prospect the brighter future for e-books than people who have never used them. Therefore, we should reconsider the accessibility to e-books, promote publicity, research the reliability of the contents, reduce the price, develop various contents, change layout for better readability, and develop the screen for the less eye fatigue to promote e-books.

  • In this paper, finite element analysis and real time monitoring experimental work using FBG sensor were carried out for analyzing structural integrity of a Type IV hydrogen pressure vessel under impact loading condition. By using finite element analysis with the ply based modeling technique, sensor insertion points and pressure condition were suggested. Tensile test with an angle ply specimen was conducted for getting the reliability of FBG sensor insertion method. After fabricating the vessel, total five times pressurization fatigue tests were conducted (Non-impact pressurization: 1, After impact pressurization: 4). Experimental results revealed that filling cycle time was gradually increased and filling gradient was decreased when the vessel experienced impact.

  • Recently, design for additive manufacturing (DfAM) technology has become a prominent design methodology for exploiting 3D printing, which leads the Fourth Industrial Revolution. When manufactured by the 3D printing method, it is possible to produce several shapes compared to the conventional casting or cutting process. DfAM-as a newly-proposed design methodology-can be used to specially design products with various shapes to apply functional requirements. Topology optimization verifies load paths to determine the draft design, and a shape-optimized design with objective functions for weight reduction enables efficient lightweight product design. In this study, by using these two DfAM technologies, a lightweight and optimal design is constructed for a node part of a vehicle body with a space frame designed for a lightweight vehicle. DfAM methodologies for concept design and detailed design, and the associated results, are presented. Finally, the product was additively manufactured, a fatigue performance test was performed, and the design reliability was verified.

  • Defects of corrugated board were limiting factors to the corrugated industry's growth. On-line detecting systems of defects are beneficial to increase profits of the corrugated board companies by reducing base paper consumption, increasing process reliability, and increasing productivity. By replacing naked eye inspection of defects to a defects detecting system, continuous inspection without fatigue may guarantee final products quality. The system was developed, which was consisted of line scan CCD camera, lens, illuminating parts, high speed image processor, software, various input parts, and output parts. First installation location of the system was at before fluting process after base paper unwinding, and surface of liner board was inspected by the system. Second installation location was after fluting process and combining process for liner board. Production loss includes ragged appearance of edge, irregular flute shape, wrong combination of flute, score cracking, defects in base paper, and flute cracking. The production loss was analyzed before and after the system installation at a commercial domestic mill. The production loss ratio was defined as a production loss weight per total production weight. The production loss ratio before the installation was decreased a lot from 1.28%(during 3 months before installation) to 0.76%(during 12 months after the first installation) and to 0.25%(during 6 months after the second installation).

  • Bellows for LNG carriers must be corrosion resistant in order to operate in seawater environments. They must also have long fatigue lives in order to withstand the expansion and contraction caused by large temperature changes and continuous vibration in extreme environments. In order to incorporate these properties into bellow design, it is important to use materials that are resistant to cold brittleness and corrosion, and maintain their optimized forming condition. The design conditions and forming methods used for bellows must be optimized in order to incorporate these characteristics. In this study, finite element analysis was used to develop cryogenic bellows, which have good mechanical strength and reliability. In addition, two different forming methods (mechanical and hydroforming) were used to design and produce bellows, in order to derive their forming condition. The height, thickness, and hardness of the convolutions of bellows produced by each method were measured and compared with each other. The results confirmed that the two forming methods produced bellows with different mechanical properties.

  • Alcoholic hepatitis is an acute and severe liver disease associated with high mortality rate. This study was conducted to develop the instrument of criterion for symptoms improvement after temperance. We made the symptoms improvement questionnaire for alcoholic hepatitis patients through reviewing traditional oriental medical literatures and got advices from the advisor committee with delphi technique. The advisor committee on this study was organized by 10 professors of internal medicine of oriental medical colleges nationwide. The questionnaire was composed of questions about 10 symptoms - fatigue, pain, anorexia, abdominal bloat, heaviness of the body, itch, nausea, sleep, dryness in the mouth and stools. We named it Alcoholic Hepatitis Symptoms Improvement Questionnaire(AHSIQ). We surveyed 65 male alcoholic hepatitis patients and checked liver function profile and AHSIQ before and after temperance four times for six weeks. As a result of factor analysis the scales of AHSIQ had content validity and construct validity. And internal consistency reliability was good(Cronbach's alpha=0.768-0.871). The total scale scores were statistically significant in gamma-GTP related validity. We suggest that AHSIQ would be effective for measuring symptoms improvement degree in alcoholic hepatitis patients through further investigations with larger clinical trials.
