Methods Sixty three subjects were divided into fatigue group and non-fatigue group, both groups had to undergo blood tests, questionnaire, Sasang constitutional analysis tool (SCAT), pulse wave analyzer examination, heart rate variability examination, nail fold capillary microscopic examination. Results 1) The results of questionnaire about fatigue, gastrointestinal disorder, pain, sleep disorder, quality of life had significant differences between fatigue and non-fatigue groups. 2) Soeumin had more serious gastrointestinal problem and Soyangin had more serious sleep disorder in fatigue groups than non-fatigue groups. 3) According to blood test results, there was no difference between fatigue and non-fatigue groups. 4) Elastic parameter of pulse wave analyzer and nail fold capillary microscopic examination showed significant differences between fatigue and non-fatigue groups in Soyangin. Conclusions We reach the conclusion that fatigue is usually accompanied by gastrointestinal disorder, pain, sleep disorder, deterioration in the quality of life. In Soeumin, treating gastrointestinal disorders can be helpful for treatment of fatigue. In Soyangin, improving sleep disorder may be more effective way to treat fatigue.

  • Recently, for the development of vehicle structures and components there is a tendency to increase using numerical simulation methods compared with practical tests for the estimation of the fatigue strength. In this study, an integrated powerful methodology is suggested for fatigue strength evaluation through development of the interface program to integrate dynamic analysis quasi-static stress analysis and fatigue analysis, which were so far used independently. To verify the presented evaluation method, a single and zigzag bump run test, 4-post road load simulation and driving durability test have been performed. The prediction results show a good agreement between analysis and test. This research indicates that the integrated life prediction methodology can be used as a reliable design tool in the pre-prototype and prototype development stage, to reduce the expense and time of design iteration.

  • This paper presents experimental and numerical analysis results regarding the effects of an incomplete penetration defect on the fatigue lives of socket welded pipes. For the experiment, four-point bending fatigue tests with various defect geometries (defect depth and circumferential length) were performed, and test results are presented in terms of stress-life data. The results showed that for circumferentially short defects, the fatigue life tends to increase with increasing crack depth, but for longer defects, the trend becomes the opposite. Finite element analysis showed that for short defects, the maximum principal stress decreases with increases in crack depth. For a longer defect, the opposite trend was found. Furthermore, the maximum principal stress tends to increase with an increase in defect length regardless of the defect depth.

  • Fretting fatigue tests were conducted to investigate the effect of contact pressure on fretting fatigue behavior in aluminum alloy A7075-T6. Test results showed that when the contact pressure is so low that gross or partial slip occurs at the pad/specimen interface, fretting fatigue damage increases with the contact pressure. However, when the contact pressure is high enough to prevent slip at the interface, fretting fatigue damage decreases with the contact pressure. In order to understand how the contact pressure influence the fretting fatigue damage, finite element analyses were conducted and the analysis results were used to evaluate critical plane fretting fatigue damage parameters and their components. It is revealed that fretting fatigue damage estimated with the parameters exhibits the same variation as that in the tests. Moreover, the variation of fretting fatigue damage is closely related with that of the maximum normal stress on the critical plane rather than the strain amplitude on the critical plane.

  • Mental fatigue is inevitable in the workplace. Since mental fatigue can lead to decreased efficiency and critical accidents, it is important to manage mental fatigue from the viewpoint of accident prevention. An experiment was performed to evaluate mental fatigue using the formant frequency analysis of human voices. The experimental task was to mentally add or subtract two one-digit numbers. After completing the tasks with four different levels of mental fatigue, subjects were asked to read Korean vowels and their voices were recorded. Five vowel sounds of "아", "어", "오", "우", and "이" from the voice recorded were then used to extract formant 1 frequency. Results of separate ANOVAs showed significant main effects of mental fatigue on formant 1 frequencies of all five vowels concerned. However, post-hoc comparisons revealed that formant 1 frequencies of "아" and "어" were most sensitive to mental fatigue level employed in this experiment. Formant 1 frequencies of "아" and "어" significantly decrease as the mental fatigue accumulates. The formant frequency extracted from human voice would be potentially applicable for detecting mental fatigue induced during industrial tasks.

  • To evaluate the fatigue lifetime of structures, it is necessary to identify the values of parameters through tests. From the viewpoint of time and cost it is difficult for engineers to get the necessary data through tests. In this study, we surveyed literature and proposed a procedure to identify the fatigue parameters expressed with the Brinell hardness and elastic modulus. After obtaining stress concentration factors by finite element analysis, we calculated fatigue notch factors using Peterson's formula. Taking into account the welding residual stress, which was also obtained by finite element analysis, we evaluated the fatigue lifetime of four kinds of welded joints using the proposed approach. The estimated results are in a good agreement with the experimental results.

  • In this study, the simulation of rolling contact fatigue based on stress analysis is conducted under Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication state. To predict a crack initiation life accurately, it is necessary to calculate contact stress and subsurface stresses accurately. Contact stresses are obtained by contact analysis of a semi-infinile solid based on the use of influence functions and the subsurface stress field is obtained using rectangular patch solutions. And a numerical algorithm using Newton-Rapson method was constructed to calculate the Elastohydrodynamic lubrication pressure. Based on these stress values, several multiaxial high-cycle fatigue criteria are used and the critical loads corresponding to fatigue limits are calculated.

  • The fatigue strength and reliability of concrete subjected to ftexural loading is investigate. The concrete beam specimens are prepared and tested in four-point flexural loading in which the bottom fiber stress varies from zero to a predetermined maximum stress. The S-N curves are generated from these test results and an equation is obtained by regression analysis to predict the flexural fatigue strength of concrete. A method is presented to perform the probabilistic analysis on the flexural fatigue of concrete. It is shown that the Weibull distribution has physically more convincing features and may be appropriate to describe the fatigue behavior of concrete.

  • According to previous research, welding-induced stress in steel structures can significantly affect the fatigue behaviour; it produces initial damage of weldiug part of structure locally and residual stresses reduce the fatigue strength after welding precess. In this study, through continuum damage mechanics, we can estimate the weldiug damage using the stress and strain history during welding process and the effect of welding residual stress for assessment of fatigue life. The variation of welding-induced stresses and strains need be traced precisely in advance for a reliable weldiug damage assessment. In this study, a damage and fatigue analysis techniques for steel structures with welding-induced residual stress are presented. First, We calculate the history of temperature according with welding process. And residual stress with a welding thermal history was evaluated by non-linear thermal stress analysis. Secondly, welding damage and fatigue life are estimated with kinetic damage law.

  • The relationship between fatigue crack growth behavior and cyclic crack tip opening displacement is studied. An elastic-plastic finite element analysis (FEA) is performed to examine the growth behavior of fatigue crack, where the contact elements are used in the mesh of the crack tip area. We investigate the relationship between the reversed plastic zone size and the changes of the cyclic crack tip opening displacement along the crack growth. We investigate the effect of the element size when predict fatigue crack opening behavior using the cyclic crack tip opening displacement obtained from FEA. The cyclic crack tip opening displacement is related to fatigue crack opening behavior.
