  • Purpose : Iron accumulation interferes with hepatic insulin extraction and affects insulin synthesis and secretion. The purpose of this study is to investigate the correlation between serum ferritin and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods : We compared the serum ferritin level among 18 patients in an impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) group, 36 in a type 1 diabetes group, eight in a type 2 diabetes group and 29 in a healthy control group. The correlation between serum ferritin levels and sex, body mass indices(BMI), blood pressure(BP), serum fasting sugar level and serum fasting insulin level were also analyzed. Results : The mean log ferritin were $1.33{\pm}0.32$(healthy control group), $1.63{\pm}0.19$(IGT group) and $1.90{\pm}0.30$(type 2 diabetes group). In the IGT group, log ferritin was higher than in the healthy control group(P=0.001). The log ferritin of the type 2 diabetes group was higher than that of the healthy control group(P=0.001). Comparing log ferritin to other factors, log ferritin had a significant positive correlation with body mass indices(P<0.001), systolic blood pressure(P=0.001), and fasting glucose(P=0.001), fasting insulin(P=0.002). Conclusion : Compared to the normal healthy group, serum ferritin concentrations were significantly higher in the IGT group and the type 2 diabetes group. The elevation of serum ferritin concentration may be a risk factor of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

  • Recently, the number of people who visit the hospital due to diabetes is increasing. According to the Korean Diabetes Association, it is statistically indicated that one in seven adults aged 30 years or older in Korea suffers from diabetes, and it is expected to be more if the pre-diabetes, fasting blood sugar disorders, are combined. In the last study, the validity of Triglyceride and Cholesterol associated with diabetes was confirmed and analyzed using Random Forest. Random Forest has a disadvantage that as the amount of data increases, it uses more memory and slows down the speed. Therefore, in this paper, we compared and analyzed Random Forest and XGBoost, focusing on improvement of learning speed and prevention of memory waste, which are mainly dealt with in machine learning. Using XGBoost, the problem of slowing down and wasting memory was solved, and the accuracy of the diabetes recognition factor was further increased.

  • Coronary artery calcification is associated with cardiovascular risk factors and metabolic syndrome, and several studies have already reported that coronary artery calcification score are closely related to the amount of atherosclerotic plaques. This study was conducted on 109 patients who underwent coronary calcium CT who visited the comprehensive health examination center in Daegu city during the period from December 2020 to February 2021. we would like to investigate the relationship between coronary artery calcification score and blood factors. As a result of the study, the abnormal group increased the risk of calcification by 1.113 times compared to the normal group in the waist circumference factor. In the fasting glucose factor, the abnormal group increased the risk of calcification by 1.036 times compared to the normal group, and in the triglyceride factor, the abnormal group was normal. As the risk of calcification increased 1.008 times compared to the group, the waist circumference factor, fasting glucose factor, and triglyceride factor were found to be factors affecting coronary artery calcification score. The risk of developing calcification is primarily associated with waist circumference, anemia and triglycerides, and health care and health checks are expected to help reduce the incidence of cardiovascular disease and reduce medical costs.

  • This study was conducted to compare the cardiovascular-metabolic risk and mental health according to physical activity in postmenopausal women, in order to present basic data for health promotion of postmenopausal women. 4,453 postmenopausal women among the raw data of the 7th period (2017-2019) of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were used for the final analysis. Cardiovascular-metabolic was measured by waist circumference, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, HDL -cholesterol, fasting blood sugar and triglycerides, and mental health was measured by depression and stress perception. As a result of the study, it was found that Korean postmenopausal women were more physically active as their waist circumference was smaller, systolic blood pressure was lower, diastolic blood pressure and HDL-cholesterol were higher. However, there was no difference in depression and stress perception. Consequently, it is considered that waist circumference, blood pressure, and HDL-cholesterol management are necessary to improve cardiovascular and metabolic functions in postmenopausal women.
