This paper proposes an adaptive controller for partially known system and applies to a two-wheeled Welding Mobile Robot (WMR) to track a reference welding path at a constant velocity of the welding point. To design the tracking controller, the errors from WMR to steel wall is defined, and the controller is designed to drive the errors to zero as fast as desired. Additionally, a scheme of error measurement is implemented on the WMR to meet the need of the controller. In this paper, the system moments of inertia are considered to be partially unknown parameters which are estimated using update laws in adaptive control scheme. The simulations and experiments on a welding mobile robot show the effectiveness of the proposed controller.
In this paper, a dual stage servo mechanism has been developed for image tracking system to improve control performances such as small rise time, small overshoot, small settling time, small stabilization error etc. A secondary stage, a platform, actuated by a pair of electro-magnets is mounted on a conventional elevation gimbal. In this mechanism, the gimbal provides large range but slow motion and the platform provides small range but fast positioning. A sliding mode control is applied to the platform positioning to attain robust performances and stability in the presence of the disturbance related to dynamic coupling of the gimbal and the platform. Results from experiments illustrate that the suggested dual stage mechanism controlled by the sliding mode control is effective in improving responses and attenuating the disturbance response related with dynamic coupling.
A new control scheme is developed to achieve fast and accurate decoupled tracking for an n-Joint robotic manipulator In the Presence of disturbances and unknown Parameter variations. The control system is designed so that a new type of state trajectories called sliding mode may exist in a phase plane. In order to remove the reaching Phase and high frequency chattering phenomenon which ate the common shortcomings of variable structure control(VSC) scheme, this paper presents the new switching line which is composed of three segments and the continuous control law which is derived from the existence condition of a sliding mode. The Proposed methods in this Paper are applied to a 3-Joint robotic manipulator as a numerical example-The digital simulation results which are compared with those of typical VSC scheme show the validity of accurate tracking capability and robust Performance of the system.
In object tracking, the template matching methods have been developed and frequently used. It is fast enough, but not robust to an object with the variation of size and shape. In order to overcome the limitation of the template matching method, this paper proposes a template update technique. After finding an object position using the correlation-based adaptive predictive search, the proposed method selects blocks which contain object's boundary. It estimates the motion of boundary using block matching, and then updates template. We applied it to IR image sequences including an approaching object. From the experimental results, the proposed method showed successful performance to track object.
Tracking the Maximum Power Point (MPP) of a photovoltaic (PV) array is usually an essential part of a PV system. The problem addressed by Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) techniques is to find the voltage $V_{MPP}$ or current $I_{MPP}$ at which a PV array should operate to generate the maximum power output $P_{MPP}$ under a given temperature and irradiance. MPPT control methods such as the perturb and observe method and the incremental conductance method require a microprocessor or DSP to determine if the duty cycle should be increased or not. This paper proposes a simple and fast analog MPPT method. The proposed control scheme tracks the MPP very quickly and its hardware implementation is simple when compared with the conventional techniques. The new algorithm can successfully track the MPP even in the case of rapidly changing atmospheric conditions. In addition, it has higher efficiency than ordinary algorithms.
This paper proposes a method of localization of vehicle especially the horizontal position for the purpose of recognizing the driving lane. Through tracking road signs, the relative position between the vehicle and the sign is calculated and the absolute position is obtained using the known information from the regulation for installation. The proposed method uses Kalman filter for road sign tracking and analyzes the motion using the pinhole camera model. In order to classify the road sign, ORB(Oriented fast and Rotated BRIEF) features from the input image and DB are matched. From the absolute position of the vehicle, the driving lane is recognized. The Experiments are performed on videos from the highway driving and the results shows that the proposed method is able to compensate the common GPS localization errors.
In this paper, a signal processing algorithm for software GPS receiver is proposed. The signal processor takes snapshot of the sampled If signal from the RF section of the GPS receiver. All the processing for code and carrier tracking and correlation are implemented using the digital signal processing techniques. In order to achieve fast code acquisition, correlation of the incoming GPS signal is performed using the FFT method, After code acquisition, to reduce the Doppler shift effect and increase the accuracy, the interpolation or the tracking are performed. The performance of the proposed processing algorithm is first evaluated using matlab/simulink. A signal acquisition board for sampling and logging GPS IF signal form the Mitel GPS RF chip set is constructed. In order to analyze the performance of the designed algorithm the experiments are performed and the results are analyzed.
Navigating an unknown environment is a challenging task for a robot, especially when a large number of obstacles exist and the odometry lacks reliability. Pose tracking allows the robot to determine its location relative to its previous location. The ICP (iterative closest point) has been a powerful method for matching two point clouds and determining the transformation matrix between the maps. However, in a situation where odometry is not available and the robot moves far from its original location, the ICP fails to calculate the exact displacement. In this paper, we suggest a method that is able to match two different point clouds taken a long distance apart. Without using any odometry information, it only exploits the features of corner points containing information on the surroundings. The algorithm is fast enough to run in real time.
Configuration-dependent nonlinear coefficient matrices in the dynamic equation of robot manipulator impose computa- tional burden in real-time implementation of tracking control based on the inverse dynamics controller. However, parallel manipulators such as Stewart platform have relatively small workspace compared to serial manipulators. Based on the characteristics of small motion range. nonlinear coefficient matrices can be approxiamted to constant ones. The modeling errors caused by such approximation are compensated for by H-infinity controller that treats the modeling errors disturbance. The proposed inverse dynamics controller with approximate dynamics combined with H-infinity control shows good tracking performance even for fast tracking control in which computation of full inverse dynamics is not easy to implement.
A new approach, to seam tracking for robotic are welding is proposed. In this approach, the weld model is a snapshot image and the acquired image is analyzed and compared to the welding database which contains CAD data, weld positions, weld parameters, etc. This paper presents a fast and robust algorithm for the Hough Transform. This modified Hough Transform(MHT) algorithm uses the least-squares regression analysis method in order to approximate the edge lines more precisely, and leads to a significant reduction in both computation and storage. In comparison with the conventional seam tracking methods, this new approach has the advantages of low cost, continuous welding, and various type welding.
