  • This study newly presents a synthetic phase tuning technique to suppress the unwanted torsional mode while enhancing the desired torsional mode in a pipe. Specifically, we aim at the enhancement of the first torsional mode and the suppression of the undesired, second torsional mode. Earlier efforts were to enhance the desired wave mode only in the hope that the enhancement results in the suppression of the unwanted wave mode. Unlike these efforts, the suggested technique makes the complete cancellation of the unwanted wave mode but it is shown to enhance the desired first mode for torsional wave problems. In the present study, the synthetic phase tuning is developed for the cancellation of the unwanted wave mode, meaning that the number of necessary experimental equipments is reduced. Simulation and experiment were carried out to check the effectiveness of the proposed method. As an application of the suggested technique, we investigated the reflection and mode conversion characteristics of the first torsional mode according to the step thickness variation in a stepped pipe.

  • This paper proposes an algorithm for fingerprint identification using phase only correlation. This algorithm uses the phase of fast Fourier transform and correlation function to calculate the similarity. The algorithm gives very clear result for identification because it shows only one conspicuous sharp peak for the same person's fingerprint. Further, it shows good results even for the finger print images which are printed not clearly and does not need to preprocess the images. It also shows good results for parallel displacement of fingerprint. The experiment result shows the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • Multi-wavelength holography has a better axial range than single-wavelength holography, thus allowing unambiguous phase imaging. Noise amplification is the limiting factor in multi-wavelength holography as noise is amplified by a factor equivalent to the magnification of the wavelengths. Here, we propose a new algorithm to remove noise amplification in multi-wavelength holography. The proposed method does not use phase unwrapping and removes $2{\pi}$ ambiguities. Experiments and numerical simulations indicated that the proposed method is fast, has low noise, and is useful for measuring samples with arbitrary step heights.

  • The subject of this study was male apparatus gymnastics athlete who had scored high points doing basket with 1/2 turn on parallel bars. Then 3D motion analysis were used to calculate & analyse kinematic variables of Basket with 1/2 turn to Handstand. 1. The total average time spent for Basket with 1/2 turn took $2.16{\pm}.08sec$, at the downward upward phase took $.58{\pm}0.00sec$, $.23{\pm}.00sec$, at flight phase took $.28{\pm}.01sec$, at connected area phase took $.72{\pm}0.21sec$, at rotation area phase took $.35{\pm}.14sec$. To have a successful performance, there should be faster speed and velocity to rotate at the downward upward phase, then the upward velocity and height must be used adequately. Moreover, the speed must be faster at the flight connect phase to stabilize Center of Mass(CM) for the body, and must secure more time at the rotation area to have more stable performance. 2. After handstand on parallel bars while moving CM to right hand side, and It must be performed with big and magnificent performance with putting both hand's center to far away from the parallel bars. 3. Furthermore, CM must be moved fast from downwards to right hand side, and CM must be moved fast in vertical movement at upward and flight phase to avoid CM from moving back and forth, and left and right. 4. At downwards, the subject must rotate as bis as possible using hip-joint as wide as possible and at upwards, must put his body to vertical to have stable performance. While rotating or turning, it is better to do with bigger shoulder angle and have to make sure that trunk angle must be not scattered. To perform better and more positive in basket with 1/2 turn on parallel bars, the centrifugal force must be used big and fast at downward, and at upward and flight phase, downward movement must change to vertical movement as soon as possible while turning movement must happen at handstand position. Time spent must be shorten at connected area to stabilize CM and turning must be natural as possible while securing the necessary time of movement to well-balanced. Also, the body must be vertically closed from the ground.

  • The starting characteristics of single phase induction motor(SPIM) is described by control of phase and voltage. Auxiliary winding voltage is controlled by DC amplifier and phase is integrator. These processes enable comparison of torque with slip in each voltage and phase angle variations. Simulation and experimentation results of the motor's torque-slip characteristics using the controlled auxiliary winding voltage and phase angle arc shown and discussed. As a results, starting time is fast and main winding current is small when auxiliary winding voltage is low than rating voltage and starting characteristics is good in phase angle $90^{\circ}$.

  • Individual genetic susceptibilities to cancers may result from several factors including differences in xenobiotics metabolism to chemical carcinogens, DNA repair, altered oncogenes and suppressor genes, and environmental carcinogen exposures. Among them, genetic polymorphisms of metabolizing enzymes to chemical carcinogens have been recognized as a major important host factors in human cancers. They have two main types of enzymes: the phase I cytochrome P-450 mediating enzymes (CYPs) and phase II conjugating enzymes. The purpose of this study is to determine the frequencies of genotypes of phase I (CYP1A1 and CYP2E1) and phase II (NAT2) metabolizing enzymes in healthy control and head and neck cancer patients of Korean and to identify the relative high risk genotypes of these metabolizing enzymes to head and neck cancer in Korean. The author has analyzed 132 head and neck cancer patients and 113 healthy controls using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). The results were as following; 1. The frequencies of genotypes of CYP1A1, CYP2E1 and NAT2 in healthy control were as following; CYP1A1 exon 7 polymorphism; Ile/Ile: Ile/Val: Val/Val = 59.3%: 36.3%: 4.4% CYP2E1 Pst I polymorphism, C1/C1: C1/C2: C2/C2 = 61.1%: 32.1%: 6.2% NAT2 polymorphism; F/F: F/S: S/S = 43.4%: 48.7%: 8.0% 2. In analysis of phase I enzyme, Val/Val genotype in CYP1A1 exon 7 polymorphism and C2/C2 genotype in CYP2E1 Pst I polymorphism were associated with relative high risks to head and neck cancers (Odds' ratio: 2.09 and 1.37, respectively). 3. Among the genotypes of NAT2 enzyme polymorphism, S/S genotype of NAT2 enzyme had 1.03 times of relative risk to head and neck cancers. 4. In combined genotyping of CYP1A1, CYP2E1, and NAT2 enzymes polymorphisms, the patients with Val/Val and C1/C1, C2/C2 and fast acetylator, and Val/Val and fast acetylator had higher relative risks than the patients with each baseline of combined genotypes (Odds' ratio: 2.82, 1.98 and 2.1, respectively). These results suggest the combined genotypes of Val/Val and C1/C1, C2/C2 and fast acetylator, and Val/Val and fast acetylator were more susceptible to head and neck cancers in Korean. And genotyping of metabolizing enzymes could be useful for predicting individual susceptibility to head and neck cancer.

  • High-speed classification method becomes an important research issue in text categorization systems. A fast text categorization technique, named feature value voting, is introduced recently on the text categorization problems. But the classification accuracy of this technique is not good as its classification speed. We present a novel approach for feature selection, named document-side feature selection, and apply it to feature value voting method. In this approach, there is no feature selection process in learning phase; but realtime feature selection is executed in classification phase. Our results show that feature value voting with document-side feature selection can allow fast and accurate text classification system, which seems to be competitive in classification performance with Support Vector Machines, the state-of-the-art text categorization algorithms.

  • A method for analysis of thin film thickness in spectroscopic reflectometry is proposed. In spectroscopic reflectometry, there has been a trade-off between accuracy and computation speed using the conventional analysis algorithms. The trade-off originated from the nonlinearity of spectral reflectance with respect to film thickness. In this paper, the spectral phase is extracted from spectral reflectance, and the thickness of the film can be calculated by linear equations. By using the proposed method, film thickness can be measured very fast with high accuracy. The simulation result shows that the film thickness can be acquired with high accuracy. In the simulation, analysis error is lower than 0.01% in the thickness range from 100 nm to 4 um. The experiments also show good accuracy. Maximum error is under $40{\AA}$ in the thickness range $3,000-20,000{\AA}$. The experiments present that the proposed method is very fast. It takes only 2.6 s for volumetric thickness analysis of 640*480 pixels. The study suggests that the method can be a useful tool for the volumetric thickness measurement in display and semiconductor industries.
