Three discount rates representing high, mid, and low for a luxury product sold in social commerce were manipulated and tested on female consumers and 486 online responses were analyzed. The results revealed that the price discount affected perceived benefit but did not affect purchase intention. Benefits were highly perceived at high and mid discount rates compared to the low rate. Social commerce trust, brand preference, and design preference affected perceived benefit and purchase intention, but the interaction effect with price discount was observed only in the design preference to perceived benefit. The purchase experience of online luxury products also affected purchase intention. Implications from the results were also discussed.

  • This study aimed to identify messages that induce positive product attitudes and purchase intentions among luxury consumers in online luxury sales. Message types elicited from luxury products were classified as quantity-limited, time-limited, sustainability, and personalization. A total of 150 participants were recruited through a Google survey, and all respondents were randomly assigned to respond to one of five stimuli (quantity-limited, time-limited, sustainability, personalization, and control). Participants were informed that they would be engaging in luxury online shopping and read a description about it. Results showed that message attitude, product attitude, and purchase intention were positively formed with the quantity-limited and personalization message types. Furthermore, we discovered the underlying mechanism for quantity-limited and personalization messages increasing favorable message attitudes and it affected the product attitude. Finally, it increased the purchase intention of the product. By confirming purchase intentions according to message types for luxury brands, we have expanded the scope of advertising research to include online luxury sales platforms. Since luxury online shopping is inevitable, this study suggests that the effective use of message types such as quantitylimited and personalization would improve online sales.

Respondents are limited to consumers aged 20 to 39 who have recently purchased fashion products through social commerce over the last month. Four hundred samples were used for the final analysis. Descriptive statistics, Cronbach's alphas, a confirmatory factor analysis, and a structural equation modeling analysis were conducted. The results are as follows. Product value, convenience and SNS subjective norms without trust significantly influenced the consumer attitude towards social commerce, and the attitude of consumers positively influenced the purchase intentions of fashion products. In the group purchase mall, only convenience affected the attitude of consumers; in the private mall, product value, convenience and SNS subjective norm had an effect on the attitude of consumers. In addition, the SNS subjective norm positively influenced purchase intentions directly as well as indirectly. Social commerce ought to offer product value and create a simple and convenient design to raise the purchase intentions of fashion products; in addition, they should use SNS functions to inform consumers of social commerce. • Time-limited promotions have become a popular strategy across various product categories including fashion mobile platforms. While consumer feel content and satisfied when they get this , those who miss the opportunity may develop negative feelings and tend to give up on additional price discounts. This phenomenon, known as inaction inertia, has been a crucial subject of consumer behavior research. However, the underlying mechanism within the context of fashion consumption has yet to be discussed. This study investigated whether consumers show inaction inertia when purchasing fashion products and whether involvement moderates product purchases in inaction inertia situations. Hypotheses were tested through an online survey with 336 Korean participants based on fictitious purchase scenarios. In the results, the hypothesized negative influence of inaction inertia on purchase intention for fashion products was statistically confirmed. Furthermore, the hypothesized moderation effect of involvement in the mechanism was confirmed - only within the high (vs. low) age group. To explain, the negative effect of inaction inertia significantly decreases among older consumers of high (vs. low) involvement levels. We contributed to the related academic flow by performing an experimental study on inaction inertia, which had relatively little empirical research compared to the influence confirmed in practice so far. We also provided a novel idea by demonstrating that the moderating effect of product involvement differs depending on the age group.
