Circular shareholding refers to a situation where at least three member firms in a business group have stock in other member firms and establish a series of ownership in a circular way. Although many studies have focused on the ultimate effect of circular shareholding on firm's value and profitability, there have been few studies which address how to resolve circular shareholding from the perspective of optimization theory. This paper proposes a heuristic method for identifying shareholdings which need to be cleared in order to settle the problem of circular shareholding in a business group. The proposed heuristic tries to maximize the sum of voting rights the controlling family has in its business group firms. The applications results confirm that the heuristic provides near-optimal solutions for most of 16 Korean large business groups involving circular shareholding.
Heterotrimeric GTP binding proteins, G-proteins, mediate signal transduction generated by neurotransmitters and hormones. Among G-proteins, Go proteins are the most abundant in brain and classified as a member of Gi family. Ras-like protein in all tissues (Rit), one of the small GTPases, is a member of a Ras superfamily and identified as an important regulator of neuronal differentiation and cell transformation. Recently, we have reported that Rit functioned as a candidate downstream effector for alpha subunit of Go proteins ($Go{\alpha}$) and regulated neurite outgrowth triggered by $Go{\alpha}$ activation. In this study, we showed that the GTPase domain of $Go{\alpha}$ contributed to the direct interaction with Rit. We also demonstrated that $Go{\alpha}$ could lead to an increase of Rit activity suggesting that Rit play a role as a downstream effector of $Go{\alpha}$.
The SNF2/SW ATPase/helicase family comprises proteins form a variety of species with in vivo functions, such as transcriptional regulation, maintenance of chromosome stability during mitosis, and various types of DNA repair. Here, we reported the characterization of h게2+gene which was iolated by PCR amplification using the conserved domain of SNF2 motifs. Sequence analysis of PCR product showed striking evolutionary conservation among the SNF2 family of proteins. Two transcripts of 6.7 and 3.4 Lb were detected by Northern blot analysis. furthermore, the intensities of these two bands were increased by ultraviolet(UV) irradiation. These results indicate that the hrp2+ is a novel member of the SNF2 family of proteins and is one of the UV-inducible genes in S. pombe. To determine the level of transcripts of hrp2+ gene during cellular growth, Northern blot analysis were performed. This result indicates that the level of hrp2+transcript reached its maximum before cells entered the exponential growth phase. This suggests that hrp2+ gene is experssed mainly at the early stage of cell growth.
The purpose of this study is to explore the housing pathways of middle-class married women toward owning a first home. In doing so, an in-depth interview as a qualitative method was conducted, life history was utilized to track down the path to first-home owning, and all the interviews were transcribed for analysis. The research participants were well-educated middle-class full-time housewives owning a home. The findings indicated that family formation through marriage and child birth was a primary driving force to buy a home. It was shown that owning a home was perceived not just as a stepping stone for building both family wealth and social capital but as one of the most important pillars to reinforcing traditional family values. In spite of some intergenerational distinctions on the path toward home owning, commonalities across generations included that home owning was considered to be a social icon for middle-class, it became almost impossible for younger generations without parental support which stimulated the intergenerational transfer of wealth, and it was greatly determined by both family income (affordability) and home finance options(borrowing capacity). This research implies that the changing social landscape transforms the value on homeownership and could undermine the socioeconomic strengths of home owning. Nonetheless, it's of importance to strategically assist first homebuyers who are likely to be a member of middle-class.
To investigate opportunities for wood frame housing and to activate wood frame house construction, trends of construction activities. preference about housing, and building codes related to wood frame housing were discussed. And two models of wood frame house were developed and construction cost was analyzed to compare with comparative masonry houses. The results obtained were as follows: 1. While 77.8% of people prefer single-family houses, majority of people(74.9%), ironically, possess multi-family houses such as apartments Wood work cost was ratio of 4% of total building cost. while wood material cost accounted merely for 11 % out of total building material cost. 2. Building code was not major barrier to residential house at height under 13m. The building code regulated major structural member and family boder wall of multi-family house to be built with fire retardant material. 3. The proper wood frame house was analyzed of town house or villa type locating in suburban of big city with hot ondol system for the upper middle class. 4 There was no difference in construction cost between western style wood frame house and comparable masonry house, but construction cost for Korean style wood frame house is 27% higher than that of comparable masonry house. It was necessary to reduce materials and cost down by prefabrication technique for both style of wood frame house.
Since HiMSEN H21/32, a new medium speed diesel engine of Hyundai's own design, was introduced in 2001, Hyundai has added new models of H25/33 and H17/28 into HiMSEN engine family. These two new engines take after faithfully to the original HiMSEN concept of a PRACTICAL engine by Hi-Touch and Hi-Tech. The prototype of H25/33 was developed jointly with Rolls Royce Bergen originally and also introduced in 2001. But most of the engine design have been changed by Hyundai for the commercial versions to be a member of HiMSEN family, which has little interchangeability with the prototype. H17/28 is now under development as the smallest size of the family. This new engine also has the longest stroke of a class engine, which has been proven as the best basis for future environmental challenge. The higher compression ratio of 17 and optimized Miller Timing with Simplified pulse turbocharging system applied all HiMSEN engines as which showed the most practical solution against current heavy fuel combustion issues for the time being before introducing digital control system. This paper describes the design and development of these new HiMSEN engines and also reviews the service experiences of H21/32 and H25/33, which launched successfully.
This study analyzed middle-aged woman volunteers' evaluations on their volunteering and its implications for the adult life-long education. The subjects were 126 women aged from 35 to 59 who enrolled in the volunteer centers in Busan, Korea. They participated in the survey of the volunteer effects and the factors that made them continue to volunteer. Survey said, middle-aged women volunteers perceived that they got positive feedback from others and themselves and it made them keep doing on volunteering. Based on their volunteering experiences, they reported the personal effects such as positivism, caring, volunteering capacity, industry, maturity and the family member's effects such as positivism and participating in their volunteering. They also mentioned that they had positive and negative effects on family relationship such as family relation reinforcement and being indifferent to their own family. Based on the research findings, it was the emphasized that supports for volunteering of the middle-aged women that helps them to accomplish the developmental tasks in the middle age are necessary. A scheme of linkage between volunteering and the adult life-long education was also dealt with. Finally, the implications on the further studies in the field were discussed.
The purpose of this study is to understand the factors that influence residents' satisfaction with their housing. Resident's satisfaction is mainly influenced by two factors - one that pertains to housing and the other as per characteristics of the individual. Housing-related factors include housing types, housing tenure types, and size of floor space. Individual-related factors include household income, size, and education level. This study shows how both factors influence residents' satisfaction. Residential satisfaction is affected by the type of housing tenure (own, chonsei and monthly rent) and housing (detached housing, apartment and multi-family housing). Residential satisfaction of home owners is greater than that of chonsei renters or monthly renters. Residential satisfaction of chonsei renters is greater than that of monthly renters. Satisfaction of apartment residents is far greater than that of detached housing residents or multi-family housing residents. There is no difference in residential satisfaction between detached housing and multi-family housing residents. As total household labor income, household member, and residential area increase, residential satisfaction increase. Residential satisfaction of countryside residents is greater than that of metropolitan residents.
This study was designed to analyse effects of Family Health Workers' activities on the performance of a child immunization program as part of the evaluative research in the community health demonstration project in Kang Wha. Frequent shortcomings of evaluative research are problems in setting evaluative indices, difficulties in interpreting influences of socioeconomic changes due to lack of control and failure of demonstrating association between activity input and program performance. Specific objectives of this study was to improve the frequent shortcoming of evaluative research by isolating the effects of Family Health Workers' activities on the performance of the program through controlling other variables which also influenced the program performance. The target population consisted of 1240 children who were born between Jan. 1971 and Dec. 1975 in Sunwon Myun, and Naega Myun in Kwang Wha Gun, Kyonggi Province. The data were collected in part through 20 Family Health Workers who interviewed the mothers of these children in their villages during Nov. 1977. Part of the data were obtained by summarizing Family Health Workers daily activity records. All data were grouped for each birth cohort according to the 20 villages. Dependent variable of the model is the measle immuinization rate of each village and the independent variables are characteristics of baby, mother, household, travel time to the health subcenter, to Kang Wha Town, and the mean member of visits to the household by Family Health Workers as well as their other related activities and the year of birth of children according to village. The model was analysed by stepwise multiple regression technique. The summarized results show that overall $R^2$ were 39.3% and mean number of Family Health Worker household visits, mean age of mother and mean economic status were significant variables in explaining the immunization rate. Therefore Family Health Workers' activities are one of the significant variables in influencing the increased immunization rate of children in villages of the project area.
Community mental health management system emphasizing on the rehabilitation and the return to the community has been established and carried out for many years. The study has been demanded to prove that the decreasing rate of the recurrence of the mentally ill resulted to lower their medical costs, to enrich the quality of life, and to reduce the psychological burden of their family.
