Determinants of Financial Distress and Problems of College Students -An analysis of U.S. college students- (재정적 스트레스 및 재정문제에 영향을 미치는 요인 분석 -미국 대학생을 중심으로-)

  • Using a sample size of 643 college students, this study examined the level of financial stress and financial problems of college students and investigated the factors related to stresses and problems. A majority of the students had experienced financial stress that interfered their study. Among the financial problems, spending problems were the most problematic. The results of the study indicated that financial knowledge and practice were important determinants of students' financial stress and problems. Some of the demographic variables, such as family income, were also important in predicting the students' spending problems. It was suggested that good financial practices of expenditure and maintenance of those practices were important to reduce or prevent financial problems and distress. Financial educators and parents should provide their support in helping students handle their finances responsively.

A Study on the Relationship between Social Values and Clothing Motivations for a Group of Female College Students in Seoul (여대생의 사회적 가치관과 의복 착용 동기와의 관계 -서울을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the social values and the clothing motivations for a group of female college students in Seoul, Korea. Through this study, the followings were found : 1. A significant relationship was found between the social values and the five dothing motivations : Decoration, Modesty, Protection, Belongingness, Self-Esteem. 2. A significant relationship was found between the clothing motivations and the environmental factors concerning school : college type (coeducational college or women's college), major. grade. 3. A significant relationship was found between the clothing motivations and the environmental factors concerning family : father's income, father's educational level, order among sisters.

Consumer Perception of Domestic Electricity Prices (가정용 전기요금에 대한 소비자인식)

  • This study investigated (1) consumer perception about the level of electricity price, (2) the amount of household electricity consumption, and (3) consumer perception on electricity pricing system reform. For data collection, a national wide survey was conducted between November 22 and December 15, 2006. Excluding 233 cases, because of incomplete responses, data from 1767 households were analyzed. The major findings were as follows; More than 50% of the respondents consumed between 100-300kWh of electricity per month. Household size and income were significantly associated with electricity consumption. Approximately 50% of respondents perceived that electricity was being overcharged. Approximately 50% of the respondents positively evaluated the effects of the graduation pricing system. Households consuming more than 300kWh of electricity per month preferred a flat unit price. Based on these results, we suggest the implications to reforming the electricity pricing system.

The Role of Self-Control on Retirement Preparedness of US Households

  • We examine the self-control problems of U.S households and their effects on households' retirement preparedness based on the Behavioral Life-Cycle Hypothesis. Using the 2010 Survey of Consumer Finances dataset, the level of retirement adequacy was estimated with income replacement ratio (IRR), and only 42% of households were adequately prepared for retirement. Results from logistic regression analysis indicated that households with loan payment and saving self-control problems were less likely to be prepared adequately for retirement compared to those without such problems. Age, education, race/ethnicity, marital status, employment status, retirement plans, expected retirement age and risk tolerance were significantly related to retirement preparedness. This study provides financial educator and researchers with suggestions on how to help household make a better retirement plan.

  • For the purpose, this study examines to identify factors influencing urban to rrual migration for farming. This study analyzed 217 urban to rural migrant farmers. The result of this study were as follows: the influence of the main variables on the agricultural challenges of the urban to rural migrant farmers were observed as the relationship of the level of financial preparations, the motivations of urban to rural migration, the agricultural income, the annual of urban to rural migration, the size of agricultural, gender, and age. This study result show that urban to rural migrant farmers' agricultural challenges is influenced by almost economical factors. Therefore, for the successful agricultural activities of the urban to rural migrant farmers show significant impact to need on the composite effort of all such as the individual, the family, the rural society, local autonomous entity, the government.

Fast Food Consumption Patterns -Focused on College Students in Taegu.Kyungbuk- (대구.경북지역 대학생의 패스트푸드점 이용과 영향 요인에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the consumption patterns of fast food chain stores according to their parents'social demographic factors in using fast food chain stores. The data of this research were composed of 599 college students in Taegu$.$Kyungbuk region. Obtained data were analyzed by X$^2$-test, t-test, oneway ANOVA and Duncan's multiple range test with SPSS PC+ program. The findings of this study are as follows; First, mother's academic background and father's occupations, family income level of the respondents were statistically significant in using fast food chain stores. Secondly, 19% of the respondents answered that they 'hardly'used fast food chain stoles, 65.4% of them 'sometimes', and 16% of them 'frequently'. Most of the respondents answered that they visit 'with their friends'. They prefer fast food because the flood is convenient to eat and the services are fast. The frequency of eating out was increased and their taste was apt to westernize.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the social-psycholigcal marital conflict contents and marital conflict degree and find out how socio-demographic variables had an effect on marital conflict. For these pourposes 265 couples in the early marriage stage in seoul were randomly selected. The data were analysed through statistical methods such as frequency percentile paired t-test F-test Scheffe-test factor analysis. The major finding of this study were as follows: First the main social-psychological marital conflict contents was the attitude or habit of life communication sexual life personality and intimacy. Second the degree of marital conflict was relatively low. Taking a look at each conflict fact wives was higher than husbands in the degree of the conflict in intimacy factor. Third among socio-demographic variables level of family income wife's education and marriage style had influences on the the marital conflict degree.

  • The modern has been the aged society. It is also the result of the improvement of the whole living conditions such as the improvement of medical health and national income level. But, as nuclear family has been extended according to industrialization and urbanization, the consciousness of supporting the aged has been weakened. And the problems of old people such as poverty, disease and alienation has been raised. This study propose the three activation methods for paid elderly welfare house which will be another measures for solving the aged problems

A Consumer Survey in Seoul Area on Marketed Kimchi Products (시판김치의 수도권 소비자에 대한 조사 연구)

  • A consumer survey(2, 251 residents) on marketed kimchi products in Seoul and near Seoul Area were investigated for marketablity and quality improvement of kimchi. The results obtained as follow. 1. The proportion of subjects who has bought the marketed kimchi products was 24%, some factors(ages, type of housing, family system, income) were investigated. 2. The major motivation season and favorite kinds of kimchi for purchasing the products were investigated. And Subjects bought the needed amount for 1 day at hygienic store. 3. Subjects prefered the taste of kimchi which is medium level in sour, sweet, salty and hot. The most urgent improvement for the marketed kimchi is the sanitation. If marketed kimchi were improved over the aspects, the proportion of subjects who would buy the products was 54%.

Characteristics of Farming Settlement for Young Farmers (청년농업인의 영농정착 특성 분석)

  • This study aims to examine the characteristics of farming settlement in young farmers. In order to analyze the effect of each characteristic on young farmers' intention for settling into farming, an ordered logit model was employed. As for the individual characteristics affecting their intention for settling into farming, age and the highest education level showed a positive effect, while family-run farming had a negative effect, which was found statistically significant. For the financial characteristics, farm income had a statistically significant positive effect. On the other hand, the social and policy characteristics did not show any statistically significant effect.
